Hello DSMers,

I bought a 95 TSI AWD over the weekend and now have it in my yard and have been tinkering with it. It has 1200 cc injectors, HX35, along with many other mods. When I bought the car, the guy pulled DSMLINK off his other car to get it to start because it apparently had a bad MAF. He gave me a "black box ECU" with the car and told me I would need a new MAF and to tune it to get the injectors and turbo dialed in in order to it to start.

Fast forward to now, I wanted to see if I could get it started enough to move it, so I pulled the fuel rail and installed my stock blue top injectors and unplugged the MAF to get it into limp mode which would be enough to move it. After doing this it still just turns over and doesn't start, so I decided to look up the ECU. The numbers are : MD345713. I looked that up on this thread and found that it is out of a '98 2.4ltr Spyder. He had told me it was a flashable '98 turbo ECU. So what I want to know, and I believe I already know the answer, is this compatible with my 95 Talon TSI AWD? It might be helpful to know that the harness is from a '97 GST (Engine swap). Also, can someone confirm that this is a Spyder 2.4 ECU? He swears that it is out of a '98 Spyder turbo. After I get this confirmed, I'll be looking for some advice on where to go from here. Thanks for any info, guys!

That is a spyder ecu. It’ll need flashed with a different rom to operate your car.

You’d be better off getting a 95 eprom and running link. There is much more support for link.

Right, and I'd love to but that's $500+ that I'd rather not spend if I don't have to. You said it's a Spyder ECU, but do you know if it's a turbo ECU or 2.4? I read that it's a non turbo ECU, but it'd be nice to have a second opinion. If it isn't, can I still use a non turbo ECU for my car? Also, how hard is "flashing with a different rom for my car?" I'm new to the whole tuning scene.

im not sure if this is 100% right cause i haven't looked all the part #s up on ASA to confirm.

Yeah, that looks like the write up I was looking at. So if it is a 2.4 ltr N/A ECU, can I flash it to work with my car? Would it be difficult?

Anyone know for sure if I can flash a 2.4 Spyder ECU to work in a Talon TSI AWD? If so, I'll keep this ECU and just buy the Tactrix cable and get to tuning...

Oh thats sad, I wanted to go this route :D nevemiind thank you for info :)

what ecu are you going to use? got a tactrix cable already?

i have a lancer 05 blackbox na ecu that i'm planning to use for an project.

MR988330 with a chip marked MH8206F, which can be flashed for tephra v7.

Well I think I Will go with 3g blackbox as it's much cheaper, documenter and I dont need boost controlled by ECU :) not yet, today I am going to check what ECU I actually have in my car (most info from seller was incorrect) and then probably just order tactrix cable and ecu.

Lancer 05 is compatible? Never knew that! Is the wiring same as with 3g?

the lancer m/t has the same 4 connector layout as the 2g,
is the 3g 2,4 N/A the same?

From my readings 3g should have same wiring as Evo ECU

then you are good to go...

on the lancer ecu, fuel pump relay pin out is different, so it needed to be swapped.

but not your case... :)

Do you happen to have pinout somewhere? I might end up using Lancer 05 ECU same as you. Depending on what I can get. I live in czech republic and parts for japanese cars are so hard to get :D

I am going to assume that since I have been back, there have been other options invented so that people dont have to go the DSM / ECMlink route?

Yes. Flashing blackbox ECU's (98/99 DSM) with ceddy's mods or swapping ECU for 3g / evo 8 one and flashing Tephra mods.

you should aware that the Lancer A/T ECU has a different connector layout.

so you must get the M/T ECU.

if you go with the Lancer 05 M/T ECU route, you have to swap pins 8 and 22 to be compatible with the 2G pin out.
