Well I haven't updated on what is going on with my car after getting my new parts.

Over spring break I started getting the car ready for summer. It sucks that I can't work on my car since I'm 3 hours away but I make time whenever I'm home.

A quick list of what I'm doing and how I am accomplishing that. Along with some parts I plan to get.

Really mad at some things I had done in the past on my engine bay, including not doing the best rust repair/preparation. So I'm going balls out this time.

Body Work:

-From firewall to radiator support will be ground down, rust treated, painted.
-Driver side strut tower will be replaced, the right way (will do a write up on this so others can follow along)
-More holes will be welded up in the bay, along with block off plates for stock ic hole/abs module.

Painting:

The stuff that will be hidden by the bumper/fenders/plastics will be ground down and painted with a brush on rustoleum paint made for preventing rust. I've seen this been compared to pro-15 but for parts that are not rusted as much.

blah blah blah I'll let pictures do the talking..

I won't be able to get started on this again until mid may but here is what I accomplished last spring break.

Installed holset to check for clearances on the water pipe, dented that accordingly

Then I pulled the motor in preparation of doing all the above mentioned shiznit. I'm getting pretty good at doing this by myself LOL

I cleaned up my coil overs while I had them off and they look brand new! But I guess they only have 10k or so on them.

Heres the dirty ass bay. Another reason I am doing this is because I had an oil leak that I could not for the life of me stop. All new oem gaskets, ofh ported, extra copper washers etc etc. The oil pressure is still high as hell and I believe it keeps pushing past the oil pump seal/front main housing.

I originally wanted to get everything blasted and powder coated but some of these powder coaters want waayyyyyyy too much money to do some stuff so I will just paint them. This isn't a show car and I don't have extra money to drop 1k on blasting and powder coating. Anyway this is all the stuff that will be blasted and painted by yours truly.

Heres a pic of the whole bay, it really isn't that dirty or rusty or anything but I notice the problem areas and they piss me off LOL.

This is some of the work I started to do. All of the outsides of the front half of the car I plan to grind all the way down and paint. On the parts I did get done I had them all the way down to bare metal, cleaned once, cleaned twice, and then used brush on rustoleum. I think it will all look pretty badass when I'm done and have base/clear on it all :D

I obviously worked in sections because I didn't have a lot of time but these are the only parts I got done. I still haven't decided what I want to use for the wheel well undercoating. I've read up on some things about pod-15 and haven't made a decision. But they will be ground all down as well.

I haven't had heat for a couple of years so I figured I would get some shit shaved/filled, including the coolant hoses to the heater core and all the water lines for turbo/oil cooler etc.

I love this build, great work on keeping up on maitenence. The car looks phenomenal and I love all the pics, especially the beauty shots. They really add a lot and keep the thread interesting with the extra eye candy in between the build details. (Reminds me that I need more pics in my build thread.)

Okay, well, I've been home from school since May 10th and started at my internship so I have taken a little longer than planned to do some of my stuff but it is all coming along and I will update everyone on what has happened!

I got the new strut tower in, it looks great. It was obviously a pain in the ass to drill out all the spot welds on two different towers but it was necessary in order to do a quality repair job

With a mixture of wire wheel/stripping discs/ media blasting, I got the engine bay down to bare metal and ready for paint.

I had to make some patch panels and what not for some spots, you will see in the pictures.

Painted by yours truly with a 70 dollar gun from home depot.

I never really liked when people talked to much in these so I will let all the pictures do the talking! Should have everything done by the end of the week and on the road!

So I got some stuff done in the last two weeks.

Things got painted/ coated/ welded etc etc.

Installed fpr and made bracket for it, made drain line for holset, got new headlights.

I will be using ecuflash/evoscan for tuning.

HUGE shout out to Scott (CoxAbele) for spending hours on the phone walking me through the process. I owe you big time.

Here are some pics, enjoy! ( sorry for the sideways shots)

that white looks really good! have fun keeping it clean though haha.

also, why did you use seam sealer on the paint, and not on the bare metal (wouldn't that be stronger)?

The 3M seam sealer is meant to go straight over the primer or metal.

I've put about 400 miles on the gsx since last Saturday. I have a small oil leak on the timing side, go figure.

SD is running beautifully, still haven't done any WOT tuning or anything. Need to pressure test the pipes before I do that.

Other than that I've just been cruising around and enjoying the ride.

Peace,

Just read your whole build thread today at work... :D O M G its so clean!! You have officially helped me decide to get a DSM. Keep it up, your work is an inspiration to us all! :thumb:

I follow you on IG. Your car is by far my favorite DSM. Keep up the awesome work.

Very VERY nice job, you have truly made it your own. I'm in the process right now of helping a friend make his Spyder something special too, right now shaving the engine bay and finishing putting motor together.

Keep up the good work, beautiful car with A LOT of love into it.

wish i lived with my parents and could spend all my money on a car

I think you meant " wish i had the motivation and skill to do this to my car"
Did I translate correctly?

OP: This is one of THE best looking 2gs I have ever seen, hands down. Would love to see that in person.....would HATE to keep it clean tho!!haha. Nice work bro
Btw, how you like the ride with it sitting that low? That thing is slammed, not my cup of tea but i bet it holds the road very very well.
