Hey guys and gals! A little bit about me... This is my 4th dsm, and I plan on making my dream dsm like I have always wanted. I will be on a budget as I am in college and don't have all the money in the world to spend on the car like I wish i did.

Now onto the car. The shell itself is very clean, especially for Wisconsin, so a great starting point to do what I want to do. Overall, I want this car to be clean clean clean, and quick. Not blistering fast or "OMG must have all the horsepower", but quick. When I bought the car, it had some great groundwork for modifications on it which for me was a perfect building block. I didn't have to spend money on a nice catback, or suspension, or brakes, or things like that, since it was all done. Me being in college this was PERFECT since I wouldn't have to spend thousands of dollars on that stuff that I would have wanted to do to the car anyways.

The only thing that needed to be done when I got the car was that I needed to pull the transmission and figure out why the clutch release fork was sitting too far to the left, resulting in a clutch that wasn't releasing all the way. I pulled the transmission right away after buying the car and decided to just shim the pivot ball for the time being until I tore the whole thing apart this winter. I also put a new OEM throwout bearing in since it had an aftermarket one that was falling apart, and some new MT-90 gear oil in. The car shifted through the gears hard before and the clutch grabbed the second you started to release the clutch pedal, and now it shifts smooth as can be. I figured this was fine to do so I could drive and enjoy the car the last couple months of the non winter before I put the car away and tore into it. While it was apart I also did the BCS mod for just a nudge in performance and it actually gave the car a nice little bump in butt dyno power.

I took the car to the local drag strip and with being on a failing stock t-25, a catback, fmic, and intake filter, I was able to run a 15.1 @91 mph. This was a nice baseline to get for the car. My driving is less than ideal, a better 60 ft would have easily netted me a 14 second pass, but I was happy with what I was able to do considering I had attempted launching the car twice before going to the strip.

My first modification I made to the car was a 3" Megan Racing catless downpipe. This required me to remove the reducer in the already installed Thermal R&D catback exhaust. I cut off the reducer and fitted a piece of 3 inch piping with a 2 bolt flange on the end to mate up to the downpipe. The install was a breeze and it was well worth the time and money. The tone of the car changed immensely and I absolutely love hearing the sounds it makes now, and the butt dyno seemed to have picked up a few ponies as well.

Finding a solid base to build on is half of the battle. It looks like you're already there though, as that's a good looking 2G! I started in 2005 with a 1.8 Plymouth Laser as a young kid. It's taken me a decade and 5 DSM-ish cars to get to where I'm at now. I can vouch for the struggle that time, budget, and life all play on a build for the average Joe.

That being said, it's nice to see members going to the track, even if you aren't running 9's. Sure, we'd all like to be setting records, but most of us will have to settle for the enjoyment aspect in lieu of having the time and money to build real race cars.

Post up your time slips, and be sure to update your profile with your progress. Keep up the good work :thumb:

Sub'd! Look forward to seeing your progress bud, I've got a soft spot for R87 2g's.

What's the story behind your plate, wondering what 2 PT SLOW is?
Your car is an absolute inspiration to me and I just realized that I picked up the same wheels you run on your 2g. I'll have some more pictures this week of what I've done lately. The plate is actually from my last car which was a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0t and that was just transferred over for the time being. It will be going away as it isn't as fitting on this car as it was my last one.

I picked up a set of OEM replica headlights after seeing the product review that Jason Drew(jdxnc) did for them on youtube. They were just a tad under 80 dollars shipped to my door and they are great. They really made the front end look a lot nicer, along with ditching the front license plate and bracket.

I also picked up a set of Evo IX Enkei wheels with tires on them for a great price. I've always wanted a set of these wheels with previous dsm's I've had so I couldn't pass this deal up.

Finally, I picked up an MHI Evo 3 16g needing a rebuild for a great price. I'll post some pictures of the turbo when I disassemble it for the rebuild.

Glad my review helped, did they fit well like mine did?
They fit great! I'm definitely going to be looking into some different bulbs like you had mentioned. I'm glad that I found that you make the replica engine bay stickers to add a nice new touch to the engine bay when I redo it this winter.

I haven't had much of a chance to update my build on here. So far I've been picking up a few parts here and there, but I've mainly been focusing on painting my engine bay. I sprayed it with a gun and sprayed the base coat and clear coat, and it turned out awesome!

I should have some more pictures of some more progress this month! :D:D:D:dsm:

Wow that engine bay looks fantastic, what products did you end up using?

Ill be doing this on my VR4 in the very near future and am not really sure what products to use.

I work at a small body shop and I used the same brand of paint and clear that we use.

Is that WIR. You from the fox cities? I grew up in Kaukauna. Nice car btw. Wish I could find something that clean in WI.

Yes it is at WIR, I live in Appleton.

I was able to get some progress made on the car this weekend.

I decided to freshen up the TMZ rebuilt transmission with a fresh coat of cast aluminum engine enamel to give the engine bay a nice, complete clean look when everything is assembled.

I also wanted to clean up the front wheel wells, and apply a new layer of undercoating. I used some 3M undercoating out of an aerosol can, which turned out great!

Looking good man, I will be keeping an eye on this. Very similar to the point I'm at, I'm curious about that 3m coating. I painted my wheel wells a couple years back and my shell has just been sitting forgot what I used, getting back into it now and might look into spraying it with another coat of that stuff. Keep up the good work!

I picked up some of my parts from getting powdercoated. I am so happy that everything for the most part is going to be looking new. I still have some more stuff there that he is going to get done this week. The Forced Performance exhaust manifold was done in a high temp powder. He says the local performance shop has him do a bunch of headers and manifolds and he's heard it holds up well, so we'll see if it passes the test.

I haven't made much progress on the car itself lately. I did put in a new fuel filter and hooked up one end of the stainless clutch line. I picked up the rest of my parts from getting powdercoated and have some new hardware on the way for the engine bay.
