DSMtuners will continue to support and promote DSM drivers/racers (who are active members) on our site by showcasing these members and giving them exposure with the DSMtuners Featured Driver/Racer Program. Our main goal with this program is to reward those whose passion for driving takes them to the track. We want to reward members who share their track experiences with our members and help build excitement in the DSM racing world. We all know that racing isn't cheap, so we're doing what we can to help grassroots racers get the most out of their racing efforts.
We feel there is a need to promote legalized racing and give people more reason to go to the track. We want to help the real racers - the people with real passion - the people who take it to the track and represent our community the right way. Find out how to become a DSMtuners Driver.
The RochesterDSM club has formed a team to compete in the 2009 One Lap of America. The team includes Stephen Burke, Mike Hayes, Sean Caron, and Tim Harper. The project car will be a 1992 Galant VR4 which owned by Stephen Burke.
For those who don’t know what One Lap of America is here is a little history. The race called the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash started by Brock Yates in 1971. This was a free for all …“the only rule is there aren’t any rules” race from New York to LA which featured every type of car from Ferrari’s to Rolls-Royce and every type of driver from rank amateur to Dan Gurney. The Cannonball run movies were based on the highlights from real race. 1979 marked the end of the road for the race, at least in its original form. In 1984 the Cannonball was back but this time is was a series of time-speed-distance rallies with some autocrosses thrown in. In 1992 Cannonball transformed once again into what it is a today. The race is nearly 24hrs a day driving with competition taking place as time trials on Americas best race tracks. The event is an exercise in endurance and preparation. There are no support trucks, no pit crews, and you race the entire event on the same set of street tires. The scoring is based on your performance on the track but the real test is the car/drivers ability to traverse over 3000 miles without regard to sleep or personal hygiene. The format is grueling for sure with barely enough time to get from one event to the next. The format goes something like this race, pack the car, drive like hell for hundreds of miles hoping to make it time to catch an hours sleep in a crusty motel, unpack the car, race and repeat. Follow along with the Blog updates and discuss the project in the forums.
Eddie is currently racing a 1997 Eagle Talon TSi in a road race series called the Grand Bayou Race Series hosted by No Problem Raceway in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Eddie has recently gotten his provisional rookie competitive license for the 2007-2008 series.
His goals in racing are really simple. Get as much racing seat time as he can. He's been making contacts with drivers and team mangers/owners in the SPEED Touring Car series and hopes to in 2 years from now, to at least get a testing session with one of those teams. Read Eddie's Race Reports...
Chris is the founder of DSMtuners and is very passionate about racing. He will be looking to campaign the car in NASA Pro Racing's Time Trials program in the Rocky Mountain region. NASA focuses mainly on road course racing programs and driver development and education programs all over the country.
Chris' goal is to make the car reliable, have fun, and win as much as he can. This is going to be a grassroots racing effort aimed at helping inspire other DSMers to get out on the track and compete. Read Chris' Race Reports...
