Interesting mod, not sure if it's worth the effort for a little increase in clamping force. The increase in the diameter of the Evo rotors accounts for the serious increase in braking force one several accounts, one is the increased torque of the larger diameter rotor, second is the better heat...

SSG Keith Rudd was also a flight medic from C Co 3-82nd AVN REGT who I was privileged enough to serve with while at Bagram Airfield for a short period of time prior to me moving to FOB Shank. Keith was a medic who had been there and done that, a whole closet full of t-shirts. He would never...
SGT Eric Williams was a flight medic who I had the honor and privilege of serving with while in C Co 3-82nd AVN REGT "DUSTOFF!"
Eric was a flight medic who had the ability to make humor in even the darkest hour and kept many of us going when we didn't feel we had any fight left in us. Eric...
SGT Dwight Burn was a CH-47F Chinook Crew member who I had the distinction of being deployed with during the 2011-2012 OEF rotation from Ft Bragg to Afghanistan. He was killed in a helicopter crash during a training exercise preparing to return to Afghanistan this year.
With the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday I would like to add to this thread and post in honor of some more of America's finest young men who I have had the pleasure of serving with and have paid the ultimate price to contribute to protecting the freedom everyone in this country loves so dearly...
Sorry if I missed this throughout this thread, but would a 1G version be available? Feel free to PM me as I would be in the market to buy if it is.Josh
George Zimmerman will be tried in a court by a jury of his peers not here on a public forum even though he has already been tried by the public and the Mass media.People who haven't been through LEO training have no idea what it truly takes to do that job. I've not been through it and I...
Made it in yesterday!!! Staying at the Motel 6 that David recommended! Nice people. Look forward to meeting new and old friends. PM me for phone number. Calan, we need to talk about getting me a couple of catch can setups!!!Josh
Anyone notice the 1G DSM in front of the house with the pool Rodney King was found dead in? I may be a little morbid but it's a DSM nontheless. Check it out here:

I've always lubed the cylinder walls as well as oil the rings down thoroughly and never required much effort at all to turn over even a newly honed block with brand new rings. Not saying it's not possible just saying it didn't take anything more than my bare hands on every 4 cyl engine I've...
Your car looks great and I definitely voted it a 10, mainly because I just got a GVR4 myself. Only one thing bothers me. The valve cover and lack of a heat shield on the exhaust manifold. The valve cover is from an Eclipse or Talon and the lack of an exhaust heat shield will allow the boost...
This is SSG Robert "Brian" Cowdrey, he's a good friend of mine and we lost him on this deployment this year. He leaves behind a wife and 3 boys, the oldest of which has followed in his footsteps and chosen to serve in the U.S. Army (as a Blackhawk helicopter repairer.) I've flown with SSG...
Try it again, it works fine for me.Thanks! I really like the OEM appearance on the 1GaYes, the spoiler had some very minor superficial damage and needed new mount hardware so they painted it and got the hardware I sent them installed. It was still at the paint shop then but yet it...
But common usage of the words says that an engine is anything that converts heat energy into motion, a motor is something that generates motion without the changing of matter (such as an electric motor).Josh
Actually the word engine is synonymous with motor. Both are loosely defined as anything that converts energy into useful mechanical motion. I could go into great detail but I would bore myself!!! LOLJosh
Air Force has it's advantages and disadvantages. How many people have you seen piss and moan about there job in both branches? I've seen quite a few from both! LOL I don't play the political games very well so I wouldn't have done well in the Air Force. Just my opinion. See you guys when I...
Ok I'll play the MOS game as well:1995-2000 AH-1F Cobra Attack Helicopter Repairer and UH-1N Utility Helicopter repairer (67Y10 and 67Y20/ 67N10 and 67N20 under the old MOS system)2000-current HH-60A/L/M Utility Helicopter Repairer/Supervisor, Safety NCO, ALSE NCOIC, Paratrooper, Air...
^^^ I agree with pretty much everything stated here. Your bio is you telling the board a little about yourself. Don't name drop, don't worry about specific dates after your date of birth and anniversary. Don't forget to mention the short term goal of being recommended for promotion and...
Good, clean, OEM lines with an OEM style paint job. I find the original design to be very appealing and that is why I got my 1G repainted to look exactly like OEM.Josh
aren't most of the aftermarket head gaskets made with an 87mm bore anyhow? So .020 wouldn't matter, now the amount you have taken off of the new head might matter so you need to make sure the machine shop can tell you how much was removed. Depending on if that head was ever cut before could...
Justin, any thoughts or information available on the turbo I mentioned in my last post? Is it worth trying to use in an automotive application on a DSM? thanks for your insight.Josh
Awesome looking build, you have a nice attention to detail and some very good skills. I'll be putting the FP HTA68 on one of my cars when I get back. Thanks for the deal and I look forward to more updates and dyno numbers. BTW was the coating on the FP manifold from FP? I have one that is...
Agreed, you can get a funnel and adapter for properly bleeding the cooling system if this hasn't been done already. Not trying to insult the OPs intelligence but it is often overlooked having the heat on full and fan on while trying to purge the air out of the cooling system.Josh
when you bled the cooling system did you have the heat on full, fan on and used the overfilled funnel technique? When you said it comes back down and the heat comes on intermittently it sounds like you still have air in the cooling system.Josh
Ok so with the minor inspection I did and found that the VGT guide vanes are already trashed, I have another turbo here. LOL Borg Warner RE508973, I know what it came off of but would like to know it's potential application. It's a t-3 twin scroll so who knows, it may have some decent...
You need to bed the brakes in to help eliminate the low speed brake squeal. When I first installed Hawk HPS pads on my Evo I had this issue. I re-read the bedding in instructions on the side of the Hawk pads box and performed as instructed and haven't had a problem since. This only works if...
As posted previously by turbosax2, If there are other issues, the ECU MAY do strange things. From Dave on the dsmlink forums:Quote:
It's entirely possible that the case vibrating against ground could generate electrical noise that the ECU sees. Also, some 1G ECUs have caps leakage that has...
Just to follow up on this I ended up getting my Talon repainted to look like OEM but instead of using stickers had the shop make a custom mask and paint them on! It looks killer! It cost an additional 8 hours of labor but I think it's well worth it. Peeling all the little dots out after...
maybe the tank vent system is clogged and you fixed the new "vent" by repairing that hose? now the pressure builds up to fast in the tank and kicks the pump off. I bet if you pulled the fuel nozzle out until it was just barely in, it would fill up just fine. I had the same problem after...
Evo Electric Blue or Graphite Grey. Just my 2 cents though. BTW why spend $200 now and then more later for a quality body repair place to just have to strip it all back down and do it right? If you just want some color on there you would be better off spending $50 in rim paint and doing it...
You are correct, they are internally balanced, the flywheel is also balanced and designed from the factory to be installed in a given position to aid in harmonic dampening. I will find you the reference that I am pulling this from and post it for everyone. If the dowel is just to secure the...
The motors are also balanced with the flywheel which is why the dowel pin is there on the manual cars, to ensure it gets installed in the same orientation every time. This may not cause any noticeable or appreciable wear on the engine, but who knows, it might. As others have said before...
Kiggly beehive springs? Would the lighter weight of the Evo rockers, retainer, help any? I know those are very aggressive cams so you have probably already considered even more exotic options. That is an incredible ET considering you lifted. I look forward to seeing this thing go full tilt...
I'm on CarolinaDSM also, same screen name (hell, this is my screen name for almost every forum I'm part of!) I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan but should be back in NC around the end of July/ beginning of August. Hope to see some of you around.Josh
I pulled this from a post from a friend on EvoM this was done on an Evo 8 crank, it was a very well known shop in Germany that did this test. I provided a crank for this test.We did grind a crank down all the way to determine the deep of the hardening.
The hardening is not nitrite, its...
