When I first bought my TSi I was getting horrible mpg. After doing a complete tune up, and changing the fuel filter mpg got way much better. There was so much gunk in the filter. The plastic bov was leaking too.But yeah expect loss in mpg if your throwing any CEL and especially for an o2 sensor.
Yeah I'm with these guys, it's def worth it. An hour drive isn't so bad. And that shell looks pretty clean, clean interior.Never know may just be a boost leak, then it would be an awesome deal! And yeah some 2GB Talon's came with the swirlies.
Does the tach jump around like crazy when the car is warm? It's something electrical if it runs okay till warm like the cas or coil pack. But if the tach jumps all over the place I can say its the power transistor. Had the issue last winter with my old car, wouldn't miss till the car got...
Even $3000 is too much for this car, unless it checks out well or you have some extra money to throw around. Low miles don't mean nothing it's still a 14yr old car that will need maintenance.Seriously id have someone look over the car well especially make sure the timing marks are dead on and...
Well yeah 2g bovs suck, but unless your not recirculating then it won't really do that. I suspect a boost leak, and OP what do you mean by msd ignition? MSD plug wires? I would take a look at the wires and plugs. And are you sure you didn't mess with the safc?
A '98 has the CAS on the pass side of the head kind of like a 1g, not like a 95-96.If your not getting fuel or spark sounds like a crank sensor problem. When you get back into the car, check the ecu by doing what these guys said looking for the Check engine light coming on and also check if...
Once you delete the stock airbox, the exhaust will get louder. Especially if you take out that box between the the ic and lower ic piping on a STOCK 2g, even louder.
Its all in the maintainence. If these cars were not beat on, there would be more of them with still original engines after 200k. My friends '92 AWD had 200k on the motor, tranny, it was modded all the way, evo 3 16g, cams, fuel, fmic, exhaust running 22ibs and he ran 12.3sec passes. He made...
What these guys said. But truly be prepared to spend some money on this car. 9/10 if you buy a dsm for that low, especially a 97-99 GSX well there has to be problems. Or you might get lucky and its something minor and the seller gave up. Its not gonna be a car you buy and next day its on the...
Bringing this back from the dead. Lol, similar problem, also stock clutch. Clutch was fine yesterday, today very brutal cold morning and i thought the clutch was frozen. 1/2 hour drive same clutch pressure. Its stiff when i press it, when i depress it comes right back up quicker then normal and...
Before the cams go, the bearings are done. In less then 10 miles.Easiest way to check for a bearing is just to pull the oil pan, and feel on all the rod caps. Which ever rod spun a bearing will have a rod cap that has movement. Then you assess any other damage. But usually a bearing...
Believe me not to scare you, and i love dsms. But if your not handy id say don't buy a turbo dsm if your not ready. Basically their mostly used up and abused so most likely you will be receiving one that needs work for sure.Take your time when you search, don't pick up the first one you look...
Lol, running open downpipe will be very loud. You can do it, but i wouldn't be on the throttle for very long. You can be heard from miles away. Cops wont be very fond either.
You don't really have to start it.Depending on how long it will sit, id just change the oil and maybe the coolant.Disconnect the battery and trickle charge if you choose to.
Those ebay valve cover gaskets are trash. Better off spending the $50 for a full durable oem set.Its just lifter tick, worst is their annoying unless they collapse. Ive seen revised lifter swapping do nothing at times, you still get the lifter tick in the cold.
Those jdm motors are not that good. They say they have 50k on them when they really have 100k on them.I agree, your better off buying a bare rebuildable block and going that route.
5-10 minutes just for the sake of the turbo.I use 10w-30 all year round, id rather have thick oil in the motor. That's what the manual calls for.My car hates cold weather.
Yes you could replace the thrust bearing. It will reduce the chance. But measure your crankend play. And if you have not done so disable your clutch safety switch. And only use the clutch when you need to, ie. leave your foot off the clutch till the light turns green. These two things...
Cool that's what i needed to know, i was told before not all 2ga heads have a slotted cam.Yeah i seen that round rubber gasket on the pas side of where the intake cam sits, thats when i figured there might be a slot.Alright thanks!!
Lol Thanks, yeah i know its similar to 6bolt swap. I know it can be done in a 2g head, my friend did this to a 97-99 setup, plus i did some reading just haven't been able to answer my question. And my friends oem 97-99 setup worked out since the intake cam was already slotted for a 1g cas.Im...
Im trying to figure out if its possible to use a 1g cas in a '95 head. I know it was recently done at my friends shop on a 98 gst that had a 95 head but was using the oem 97-99 cas setup with a 97-99 intake cam. So the intake cam was slotted for a 1g cas.Now my question is since the 95-96's...
Disabling the clutch safety switch was my first mod, before i even put the car on the road. The crank sensor went bad in September, not from crank walk but just an old sensor. Replaced it with a new crank sensor from Mitsu. And i doubt water reached the sensor, i havent washed my car in...
Yeah, with crankwalk you can have misfires. Because the crank would be hitting the crank sensor. Its just im familar with the misfires, my last 2g would misfire and run like crap, turned out to be a walker. Just the whole tach going crazy is new.
