The support is welded. I had a minor front end damage and needed a new support. I bought one online for like 40 bucks and took it to a body shop to get the old one unwelded and weld the new one in for 250 bucks Ouch! I ran through the same problem i also used the 3 jaw puller, chiped my pulley and f@^&* up the threads. After 3 long days mechanic came "hit the pulley with a mallet" and like magic it came off yo.

You should switch the hook that holds down the hatch. My trunk light would not go off after i switched my hatch and noticed the new hook was shorter it did not go deep enough to kill the light. Hope that helps
