This was my approach in 2018 when getting into a CTSV was heavy on my mind. The spyder had just gotten to be too impractical and too "race car-y" for me to really enjoy on the street anymore. For the turnkey 500whp awd spyder I put a 10,000$ tag on it. Absolutely no interest. I ultimately had to...
Its been quite a long time since there has been any significant changes with the car. Heres a quick rundown on the last year.* In December of '21 the car was still fighting some fueling issues that couldnt for the life of me figure out. But the car did run and was able to move under its own...
Ah balls, youre right. My computer was going on the fritz when i was trying to reply to here so id gotten mixed up whos profile i was trying to look at.
If the turbo that is currently on the car is stock you arent going to be able to just slap on that turbo. T3 refers to the flange size/style. There is definitely more to it. Youll have to think about turbo oil feed as well as a drain. Plus the exhaust downpipe will have to be purchased or...
Well, i took care of my voltage issue. Im fighting some fuel trim issues now. Might be due to a bad wideband sensor. Ill have to get a new one and see how/if it helps. For now, just out here catchin some rays!
Couple small changes since last time. I decided i didnt like the placement of the intercooler. So, i ditched it. In doing so i decided to move the radiator to the rear and mount the fuel tank over the rear end. The pvc is for mock up purposes(for the most part 😂) i have to weld up my fuel fill...
finally an update for yall! I havent really taken any photos lately due to the things getting done are pretty minor but heres a little run down:
*built a new alternator bracket,
*got front tires and mounted, then once set on the ground noticed i got the wrong spring rate for my shocks. It was...
He nailed it. You likely arent going to be spoon fed here. A few key words in the search bar will net far more threads than the replies you will get.
Now, just throwing in some larger injectors will probably get you further from your goals as youll need some way to accommodate for the extra...
No i didnt. I thought i could upload it from my phone but it didnt work. Im having some small issues with it getting up to temp. Ill grab another, better, video here soon. In the mean time heres the most recent pic!!
thanks bud! I hope to be able to take it down the road in a week or two! Pretty late in the season but it is what it is! Hopefully i can make it to the track for some shakedowns before the end of the season!
So a bit of an update here. I did some body work to the front fender and got all four clear coated, ordered some rear wheels and tires, and Wired the car. As it sits right now im waiting for my map sensor to come in and i can adjust the fuel pressure and fire it up. Hopefully everything works as...
Bingo. There should be 5 studs coming up from the trans and the long bolt with a nut going through the mount off the framerail.edit: im sorry i didnt realize you mentioned it was a 420a car. Still could be the case though.
id looked into it a few times and turned away every time. I didnt really want to modify the block or head to redirect coolant flow like you have to do, id still have to run an inline thermostat housing. I really just wanted everything to function as close to stock as possible so i knew that it...
Yes everything was done by me in my garage except my rear end housing, i sent that out to be shortened. Thank you. Self taught mostly. A lot of trial And error.Few thing done lately. Ive been digging into the wiring harness. I de-pinned a few things from the engine harness and the chassis...
Quick google search, you may have been able to avoid posting a new thread. https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/swapping-a-1ga-to-1gb-front-end.460267/ this was the first link i clicked on.
Finally got around to ordering some gates. Got them finished up last night. Now the manifold will not fit with the factory manifold studs installed. Sooo ill need to use bolts and a lot of never seize!
Definitely not dogging this in any way but its nothing new for the hx35 to make this kind of power. Others can be found here. https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/holset-turbos-results-only-complete-installed-systems.313476/my old spyder was making upwards of 500awhp by the time i parted it out...
Whether he wants it said or not im going to say it. MrPeepers worked at advance auto for a long time before he and his wife started morrison fab! And while he was there its the only parts store id go to! Not only because he was a buddy and id just want to hangout for a second but he knew what he...
i was kind of wondering the same thing. But at least the guy did some research!! Im thinking maybe he was just looking for confirmation that hes on the right path.OP- everything looks ok to me. Things i would change to help save some money, no need for an expensive exhaust system, i got a...
Manifold is all welded up. Still need to make some wastegate provisions, need some gates first. Got the four link braces done and started buttoning up the sheet metal!
Got the manifold welded up and test fit! I will grab some more photos! Still need to figure out the wastegate positions, that will come when i get some!
Since last time theres been some mall but significant progress! I got the swing out door bars done and the last two bars to connect the four link brackets to the frame. I picked up some 1 1/4” schedule 10 exhaust pipe from Mr Peepers so i could start building my manifold. Id love to have one of...
this can go one of the two ways ive pondered about it. I could make a complete 3” exhaust out the rear of the vehicle. It would run between the passenger side of the trans and frame. Or what i will 90% most likely be doing is just going with a sode exit out of the factory fuel fill doormon the...
I havent decided yet. I might go with some kind of ceramic coating. Depends on funds! My budget is getting quite thin and i have some more high dollar things to buy yet!
Got working on the manifold the last couple days! Constructive criticism welcome. Being such a tight space makes it quite difficult but i think im getting it. Ill possible have to move the upper control arm if/when i need to remove the manifold.
Well, upon getting my piping for the manifold (thanks Peepers!!) i found that even if i were to oval the pipes i would still have a slight gap at my joints. I didnt like that. So i made a new flange, this time out of mild steel. I feel this will work a lot better. I still plan to port the head...
While this whole car is a candidate for this page i thought id at least put this part here. Last week i found some 1/2” stainless. Spent a little time working one a head flange and a T3 flange for my manifold. I traced out the flange from a factory manifold and used that for a reference. Ill be...
Not a lot to update but heres what is new.
Worked on the door bars,
Ordered a clutch and got it installed. I went with a SSX with a B series disc. South bend ftw!
Got motor and trans installed in the car for hopefully the last time.
And i rented a heated shop with a good buddy of mine (kp116)
Not a lot of progress but some nonetheless. I got all the gaskets and seals replaced ib the 6 bolt shortblock, the 2g head DOES fit onto the 1g block without milling out the holes but im still going to mill out the oil feed stud hole. -12 bung on the oil pan, some more tubes welded into the...
Sure has! I was a little surprised to still see you around! I’ve since sold my spyder.I can’t seem to find the picture that I like the most but it is a picture of Tim’s and mike wohlers cars.
I used to daily my awd spider at a 500who range. I was doable but got to be less fun than when I was still on a single disc clutch in 450-475 range. I was still on a stock 7 bolt. Being in a slight light 2wd truck would probably be a fun handful at that level. I was also seeing about 16-18mpg on...
I once cut up my perfectly good Megan fwd down pipe. But it was because I converted to awd so it wouldn’t work anymore and I’m cheap! I know what you mean about not wanting to cut it up. Just do it!
Been working on getting the cage back in while I was waiting for my crank to be polished. Upon tearing the engine down for a new set of gaskets and some maintenance I put a dial indicator on the crank. Bad news. I was getting .012”- .005” over the spec of .002-.007”. Thought I could get by with...
Definitely great of you to follow up and update this with your fix! I’ve used a Mac to tune my spyder but haven’t connected in years. This is great info for me when I fire the ol computer back up for my current project if I have issues connecting!
Since my last update ive taken the care completely apart... Again. This time hopefully for the last time! I sand blasted the chassis and the body, save for the flat panels of the body to prevent warpage. While the chassis war in prime i ran and mounted the brake and fuel lines. I also took a DA...
Looks pretty decent to me, judging from the potato phone pictures! What kind of bender do you have? Ive wanted to give up on my Bug a lot too but everytime I make some big progress Im so glad I havent!
