the accumulator or drier in your case contains a desiccant that removes moisture from the line. it is recommended that you replace it any time it is exposed to atmosphere for an extended amount of time. replace it after leak is fixed before charge. should be next to the condenser.

You can rent the manifold guage set and the vacuum pump from autozone. it is free to rent but you must put down a deposit.

if your running w/o a thermostat and it's still getting hot, I hate to say it but there is probably no flow which means that the water pump you put in could be bad..... always use OEM water pumps, pretty much all others are junk. have you checked your oil for coolant or are you losing any coolant?

I assume that you have inspected your turbo compressor wheel and checked for abnormal shaft play as well as making sure the wastegate seals all the way right? To me it sounds like your wastegate may be to blame.
