Shoulda soaked the cylinders with automatic trans fluid , I have done it numerous times. Then again there is nothing wrong with starting fresh

my guess would be syncros, alot of the 2g nt manual cars do that

could possibly be that, just make sure there are no fuel leaks anywhere.

I have had them replaced before, bought replacement bushings off ebay.

It could be the shield behind the rotor just bend it back a lil bit away from rotor.

Remove the engine, remove the flex plate and the rear main housing, set the engine on a stand. way way easier this way. I use the crankshaft pulley bolts to bolt the engine to the stand.

Just keep an eye out on the classifieds and on craigslist.

Is it a tsi or base model?

jack up the car one side at a time and grab the wheel on each side try to move it back and forth and check for play. could be a wheel bearing going bad or tie rod end.

Could be the crank position sensor or cam sensor, possibly could be something with ecu.

I had a eclipse i swore was knocking, was loud as hell, motor had almost 200,000 on it already so we tore it apart and the crank and rods were in great shape. we redid the whole engine, it had to be a lifter that was making all the noise.

Sounds like a good deal on the motor, just make sure it is legit.

If you have a torch handy, heat the bolt that you cant get loose, heat will make it expand and will break loose right away.

Yea, just jack up each side and spin the wheels and listen to see if you hear any noise.

once you get it, post some pics of of the build/swap.

I agree could be the ecu.

Hope you get it running, my guess would maybe be the timing jumped or possibly ignition timing .

My buddy had a 2g lowered with 18's and the tires rubbed a lil bit especially if there was weight it the back. If you go with a lower profile tire say 40 series you should be golden.

Are you sure the rods are for a 420a, they kinda look like they are for a 4g63. I may be wrong but figured I would mention.

I agree the 420a N/T are good motors as long as they are maintained properly. If you want to go fast just buy something with the 4g63 power plant in it.

I have a 95 talon tsi awd that i bought off craigslist for $1000 with crank walk, I am currently building a 6 bolt engine for it, 20. over j.e pistons, eagle rods evo 3 16g turbo, and so on, glad to see you got a 4g63 power plant!!! keep us updated with pics of the builds.

$2200 is way too much to spend on a rebuild. you could buy a good used motor on classifieds cheap enough, install that puppy and call it a day! Or just sell the car like it is and buy the real deal A 4g63 eclipse or talon.

Unless you have already changed it not too long ago then you could re use it. If your not sure the when the last time it was changed then yes put new in.

Ill be 21 October 26th. I've had about 20 dsm's just 5 have been gst, tsi, or tsi awd. Been into them sence i was 15 I would buy them wrecked or broken mechanically and resell them make profit. have had alot of fun with them.

I feel sorry for ya man, that really sucks. Im in the process of building my motor right now. As far as pistons go on your new build, I would use (oem) or something else rather then ebay pistons. I had a friend that has had alot of bad luck with parts from ebay. Hope everything works out well...
