Just logged into this site after an 8 year hiatus. I'm 29 now. My 99 GSX broke my heart and wallet time after time when I was still in college and had almost no money. I ended up buying a whole new engine, dropping it in and letting go of my 99 GSX. I'm itching to get back into it!.
I just had a BSE done. What happened was the stubby shaft which replaces the silent shaft was not lock titghted to the bolt. I ending up starving all my bearings and replacing the motor. :(
When I rotated my pump it felt VERY grainy when rotating, and was very obvious that something was loose. You can easily hear a rattle when rotating the gear by hand. It sucks to have to redo timing just to check but its a step you have to consider. When I installed my engine it was fine. It only...
Check your oil pump. You will have to slip off your timing belt so you can rotate it by hand. I had a VERY similar sound. My oil pump stubby shaft was very loose, causing a whine with the oil pump.
Sorry I don't have an answer but I have been in the same boat as you. I've been working on my car for a year replacing transmission, rebuilding engine, replacing rebuilt engine etc. These cars are cursed. Its been a year since I've felt boost
Isn't the higher the number, the leaner? So your results show it runs richer without recirc than with. Which proves against your theory of it doesn't matter. However props to sticking to your guns!
Solid advice thanks. Yeah I'm going to go 7 bolt, 99 block with split thrust bearings. I will definitely make sure they use my block. I didn't know they use nippon pistons. I need a warranty with this build as I can't have it falling apart on me, so probably no 6 bolt rods.I had 105k miles on...
I need a new bottom end with complete rotating assembly. I have been looking at dsmgraveyard''s oem build. I just need to get my car on the road. Where do you guys recommend me getting an engine from? My 99 block/core is reusable. I AM NOT getting a 6 bolt for various reasons, mainly because I...
Good call man. Keep it original and sell it in 40 years for 6 figures. I bought mine (99 gsx, black leather white gauges) bone stock. This thing just had oil changes thats it.Well it stayed stock for about 2 months, but only lasted 6 months after that now I am replacing the motor and...
I would replace one at a time, but just snug it up, don't torque it. Then when all of them are on torque down according to pattern. You will have to take the bolts to a shop to get them measured for stretching.
Buy a new oil pump, new timing belt, oem everything. Just a basic rebuild. Keep your pistons, rods. But get new rings, and hone your block. Topline gaskets are high quality, just get an oem head gasket though.
I've only pulled the motor out from top with the tranny attached. If you have the right equipment (lift lol) pulling the tranny from the bottom seems the be easiest, but who has a lift?
You are an n/t man. Just go to the junkyard and grab an engine, or better yet check for a dealer such as green leaf. Do not dump money into that engine, it looks like a trap.
1. OEM oil pump only.2. It could be bearings. You don't have to pull the motor to check. Drop the oil pan, check for wiggle on the rod caps. However, bearings typically won't be a fine texture like that.
I've already started it for my first start of my build. It started and idled fine. However something else went wrong with my transmission, so the most throttle I ever gave it was 8%. (until i pulled stoped it and pulled the engine.) At that level it didn't feel QUITE right. Although it could...
After about a total of 18 man hours on just trying to get the converter on, I succeeded! While the converter's starter ring was flush with the bell housing, I turned the transmission on its opposite end. I then started to spin the converter and push, and let gravity do the work. It when in ever...
I just tried to upload pics but my camera's memory card is corrupt. Sorry. I took it out and tried again. Now the starter ring is flush to the bell housing, and I can turn it. However I still think the converter needs to be in more. Like the starter ring is inside the bell housing by 1/4 inch...
I can't get the torque converter to go in all the way into the bell housing. After about 2 hours + dinner I was able to get the starter ring on the torque converter to be flush with the bell housing. However the torque converter now appears to be jammed. I can't spin it. Is this normal...
