Well ruining your bearings means replacing your useless alternator. I would check to see if anything is rubbing on it.

I don't have my manual off hands but in the book it says to use a pulley belt tensioner .. dont remember the actual lbs its supppose to be. I will look and see and post back. :thumb:If you tension it to tight you can wreck the bearings in your alternator and cause premature wear on the belt.
