How to clean a Head Gasket Surface

This is all true and great information. When I did my Z, I even went as far as 'lapping' the head/deck areas with sand paper after using the rol-locs, using a very similar method mentioned above. Lapping is starting with a heavier grit sand paper and finishing with a finer grit. The idea here...

How to clean a Head Gasket Surface

I realize this is almost 2 months old but I wanted to add my 2 cents...with the proper tools and proper know-how, a rol-loc, a straight edge and a good feeler gauge set will get you by on most head gasket jobs. I've done many, many heads like this. Many 4 cylinder cars including my old GST, a...

    Running a cut crank

Just to add to the list, before I sold her I ran a cut crank in my motor. Held up prefectly fine without a single problem. Was only around 260hp but I know it would've held much, much higher than that.

    Thrust bearing modification (crankwalk prevention)

Hey guys sorry I haven't been around lately. Was in SoCal for a month then went to Cancun with my girlfriend. Now I'm back to the terrific Pennsylvania sunshine (aka clouds, rain, snow, cold) :beatentodeath:Anyway if you're looking to just replace the main bearings due to excessive end...

    Thrust bearing modification (crankwalk prevention)

I don't see any problem in just replacing stock main bolts with stock bolts (or re-using them if they're fine). If you did an align hone every single time you re-used or replaced main bolts, on any motor, people like us would have a VIP card for our favorite machine shop....Or a "after every 5...

[RESOLVED] what tool would you use to pull front crank seal?

I once took a self tapping screw, screwed it into the old seal and pulled it out. Just got it far in enough to where I felt was safe, and came right out. The trick to getting the new one in is slab it up in motor oil or assembly lube and find an appropriate sized socket to push it in.

Since it seems like more people are curious about this, I went ahead and inverted the colors of the photos I took of my bearing when I filed it down some; in hope to make the modification stick out a little better. I wish I would have had a better camera at the time to take these pics instead...

DSM Jeff:Like I said, if you plan on using ARP studs, you MUST get the block align honed with these studs or else you're going to run into problems. ARP even warns about getting the block align honed when using their main studs. Also, you may want to consider the MBCAD kit (MachV sells...

    7 Bolt Rebuild Project

I'd take the block, caps, pistons, rods and head to a machine shop and get a professional opinion, especially since it's easier to see things like this in person. When it comes to re-building a motor, everything has to be perfect; or else you're going to run into problems...I'd recommend...

    Ideas of power increased

You'll have a noticeable increase in power from stock. Just don't expect 300hp. I had a 14b, SlowBoy FMIC (it was huge), hks ssqv, k&n FIPK, 16psi, stock exhaust, quite a few other odds and end, on a freshly stock rebuilt motor and I was happy with it. help need a clutch! any ideas on a good brand model

If you're looking for a stock replacement, but don't want to pay Mitsu's price, go with a RAM OEM replacement. It's hardly ever bad oil rings. A good way to check the rings without a 'tester' is to go down a steep hill while in gear, not using the throttle. Once you get to the bottom, smash the throttle. If it throws quite a bit of smoke, then start to worry about rings.Compression tests won't...
