I have one of these sitting in the shop at workout of an 04 Sonata, and it looks very similar to my 4g63.
How similar are these engines?
Can I use the shortblock with everything else from my Eclipse? ( head, manifolds, turbo???
I've been looking for a walkthrough for replacing Thrust Bearings, but I still havent found it yet. Anybody know of one online? Or can someone give me the gist of what I'm doing.
Yes I've searched here DSMTalk, and Google.
Preferably with pictures
I'm gonna assume that the Timing Belt broke, bent a few valves, and possibly broke a few valves.
BEFORE you buy this car.
Get a 3/4 ratchet & extension and try to spin the crank
If it spins 360 the belt did not break and the valves are fine.
If it spins most of the way and just stops you have...
Remember you get what you pay for.
And when it comes to engine internals it's best not to cheap out.
(I'm a huge cheapskate but I know where to spend. )
Ignition switched = Power when the ignition is on like a switch probably to switch the color of the gauge.
Battery = Constant power even when the car is off probably a memory setting if applicable.
Air in the fuel line isnt really a concern, I'd be more worried about other crap.
Disconnect the fuel filter feed line to the fuel rail, and turn the ignition on. This will flush the line.:thumb:
What he is saying is ( as I take it )
Get the air & general shit out of the fuel lines and filter so you don't risk running lean or starving the engine of fuel in the first few minutes of running.
They look to ba a damn good match.
After I get my GST running I'll have to find at least a boost gauge .in that style because the AutoMeter the PO put in the space for the cigarette lighter just dosent cut it for me.
IMHO It sounds like a pretty OK deal.
BUT!!!!! Find out as much as possible from the PO, I'm talking like every mod where it was bought from, why is it being sold? And so on. But def do a pre-purchase inspection.
Those are security bolts, the heads break off after they are tightened.
Get the drill out and line it up straight, or you will be buying a whole housing.
And resize that pic.
Found it (head)

You wont even need the book.
1 Jack the car up
2 Remove Drivers front wheel
3 Remove belts
4 Remove the 4 12mm bolts leave the large center bolt in place
5 Pull the pulley off ( you mat need to gently caress it with a small hammer)
6 Installation is the reverse of the above 5 steps:thumb:
Surprisingly the cylinder walls are in good shape, the valves were just barely stuck in the piston.Anybody got a usable head???? For a reasonable price
Not yet.
If I need to I'll probably stick with a 7 bolt just because I won't have to change anything.I'm thinking the same thing, so the head will be coming off tomorrow.
Thanks for the fast replies.
*****PROBLEM FOUND*****
8 bent exhaust valves and 2 broken onesI started tearing my motor down expecting a broken balance belt and a seized oil pump.
But the balance shafts have been eliminated, and the oil pump spins freely.
The engine spins fine but it will only turn about 90 % of the way...
