As for cams: 16g's (EVO III specifically) has made almost 500AWHP100% true, BUT the OP said his goal is to create a car to handle a road coarse. If you pushed an evo lll to achieve those numbers, the amount of heat it would generate would send your IT's through the roof. Thats a nightmare...
You'll have a hard time getting into the 12s on a 16g but it is doable (not at 16 psi though). If you decide to push the 16g to its limits and try and get into the twelves with it, than you might consider uprgading your stock sidemount to a frontmount. As lofty already said, a good tune with...
Makes sure the car is in pristine condition first. It wont do you any good if you make your first race and than have to forfeit the rest of the season because the car blew up. So do a COMPLETE tune up of the car.Make sure there is ABSOLUTELY NO oil or coolant leaks anywhere, not even small...
Well my plans for this offseason will actually take me into the next offseason lol. So much work to do, but im hoping to get the car onto the track next year for a shake down.Right now I'm in the process of rewiring my engine bay (the old wiring harness was starting to look pretty rough). Im...
Thanks again calen, it was very helpful. The cars oil is RELIGOUSLY changed every thousand miles if not sooner (kinda over obsessive about it) so im not too concerned about oil contamination. Im just getting the car ready for bigger boost and trying to clean things up under the hood. Thanks again
Thanks calan! That the exact kind or information i was looking for. Very helpful. Can you forsee any issues if i tied the pcv and breather tube into one line going to a catch can and than ran two seperate lines from the catch can to the IM and turbo using check valves in each line to allow it to...
I understand the point of not allowing crankcase vapors to pollute the engine oil, but under one condition (vaccum) fresh air from the intake is being used to replenish (ventilate) the air that was lost from vapors being pulled out. However under the second condition (boost) there is no such air...
The article says that fresh air is drawn in to replace the air that was sucked out through the IM, thus the term ventilation. It doesnt say why there isnt a source of fresh air to replace the air being sucked out under boost. Im trying to find out what the reasoning is behind this, maybe it is...
Thanks for the link, ive actually read that article several times before but i cant find the answer to my question in it. I quess what im trying to ask is why does the valve cover need to be "replenished" with fresh air under vaccum but not under boost? Would it be beneficial to add a line that...
Im in the process of designing a pcv system so ive been doing some research. I know that when the intake manifold sees vaccum the pcv valve opens and crankcase vapors are sucked out, all while fresh air is being pulled in from the pre-turbo intake pipe. under boost the vaccum created by the...
He's also turbo'd though so it would be good to keep it hooked up to the intake so that he could utilize the vaccum that the turbo creates to help suck out the crank case pressure under boost.
While a breather filter will function well its still better to hook it up to the intake, the reason being that your using air that's already been measured by the MAF. granted the amount of air we're talking about is fairly minimal, but, technically it can make you're car run a little leaner as...
I'm gonna say no. While I'm not 100% sure about this I believe that that's part of the PCV system. When your car is either idling or decelerating and your IM sees vaccum you pcv valve uses that vaccum to suck the crankcase gases out of the head, meanwhile fresh air is pulled out of the intake...
Just moved to greensboro from n.y. and wanted to introduce myself. My names Dan, I've been a dsm'er for 6 years now. My car will be up and running in another month or so and when it is I'm hoping to meet some local dsmers. My numbers 336-430-3893 so if anyone is planning a meet, needs help with...
I agree, you can't go wrong with a better radiator especially if your gonna change to a bigger turbo and lay some power down. I was just offering some cheaper routes for the time being.
If you have atftermarket fans than you should be getting sufficient flow through the radiator, the air just might not have anywhere to go after that. I've also heard that changing your radiator hose to an aluminum one helps too, Greg collier had good success with that.An aluminum radiator...
The front mount is gonna make the car run a little hotter even at a stand still because it still ubstructs the air flowing into the radiator. Some things you might want to try:1) wiring your fans to have them both running all the time.
2) venting your hood right behind the radiator to allow...
I'm a lolely food server at chillis, so needless to say I'm poor. It doesn't help that I live by myself either. But what little extra I have goes to my car, even though she. Hates me
just to update this thread in case it turns up in someones search, the problem was my ecu. the capacitors leaked onto the board. i removed the old capacitors, cleaned the corrosion and soldered in some new ones and now the car running stronger than ever! thank you to everyone who helped me...
yeah i checked the injectors twice already. Another reason why i wouldnt think its injector related is because the car is fine when its running cold, it only gives me problems once its warmed up
Ok im ressurecting this thread because i have a new clue to share. Apparently when the car is cold it runs fine, It makes power revs up and the whole nine. when the car warms up however (guessing it has something to do with the car going into open loop) Thats when all the above mentioned...
^^^ It really is as simple as that. The only other thing that would be connected to anything is the BCS which doesnt need to be hooked back up, maybe thats where the confusion is coming from v-mac
Yes I peeled back the wrappings on the wires and checked connections, all the wires going to the sensors in the thermostat housing are soldered on directly to the prongs since the old connectors were corroding
with the maf plugged in no the boost gauge does not go over 0, in safe mode the car will boost but obviously make no power, its absolutely positvely definately not a boost leak i've done about 15 (literally) BLTs
I had the same thoughts, I actually replaced the coolant temperature sensor today and there was no change, I checked the tps with a voltmeter and it read fine, my current thought is the cas, however, the car runs fairly good in safe mode, granted that it runs pig rich dumping way too much fuel...
I've been trying to track down my cars problem for MONTHS now and have officially run out of ideas. I will try to describe the symptoms as best as I can but please feel free to probe deeper as I am desperate to finally get this thing running right.Right now I have the car running in safe...
Nothing short of inspirational Drew. I'm sure everyone on this forum shares my feelings of happiness for you in what you've been able to accomplish so far this year. This has been a HUGE year for you and your team and I'm sure everyone who's followed this thread has been inspired in some way or...
Yes. As calan stated if you have a ball and spring type mbc than turning clockwise would increase boost since you're compressing the spring. Use the method he stated by blowing in through the end of the mbc. when air starts to leak through than the direction you were turning your mbc is lowering...
The boschs dont necessarily make a hotter spark, but since they don't cool easily they become almost like sparks themselves igniting the fuel as soon as it touches the plug. And with turbo cars you would much rather see some black carbon than gray, this because the gray is telling you that the...
Im gonna save you some trouble, for future reference search before you post. theres plenty of threads that discuss this. But to answer your question most people choose to either go with an evo III or a 50 trim, this being so that they don't sacrafice spoolup and response for pure power
Again because the ngk's are burning colder. The platinums are burning hotter, hence the gray. what you see on the ngk's is just carbon from the unburned fuelI'm not saying this to offend you so please dont take it that way, but is this your first turbo car?
Because they run colder and for whatever reason our cars just like them. This has been the unanimous decision from hundreds of dsm'ers. And personally I've never had any spectacular experiances with bosch products
Good pickup mork I actually didn't even consider the possibility that he might be knocking. I doubt this has anything to do with it but could the gapping be the issue? .28 sounds kinda small
The biggest reason why we run NGK Coppers is because coppers cools faster than Platnums, so the platnums will be much more conducive to knock. Even if they did perform better I still wouldn't risk the chance of knocking and change to a bosch plug. I'd much rather fee safe from engine knock while...
Sorry i'm with crimson on this one, something as common as a boost leak thats been inquired about thousands of times gets annoying when someone doesn't use a little common sense to solve the problem. To the OP, this may sound silly but check the tube running into the back of the boost gauge...
My Engine bay 99% done, The front end as it looks now (we still have alot of adjusting to do, My cars "good" side (I took the Ugly chrome rims off and put smaller black ones on). Till this point I've pretty much torn everything under the hood apart and rebuilt it, but for some reason I find the...
The Tensioner finally came in and I was able to finish the car!...... Or so I thought I was. The car is finished except now I just need to find a thermostat housing. Apparently mine cracked when we were assembling everything back together and its leaking bad. No big deal, I'm just gonna go to a...
So of course life decides to throw a curveball at me. Progress was coming along smoothly with the car and it was looking like the car was going back on the road next week....... that is until i lost my job yesterday. Thats what happens when you're one of the higher payed employees and your job...
