Hey Jim,
I'm not saying you're wrong, but when I compare the timing done with the cam sprocket markings to the timing on the cover, they line up in both instances. I have used an adjustable and verified with both. I was reading on this site and came across timing without the cover, so I decided...
92tsi4x4,I looked at my logs, and at idle it seems to average about 10*. It hovers between mid 8* up to about 11*, but mostly stays close t0 10*. Not sure if that correct, but the car seems to idle fine. I timed the engine with an adjustable light like you did as well. I have followed some...
Stapl3,I will look into that. This log was the first cruise log after I was able to get the car to idle correctly on SD. I did a couple of more cruises and used the SD VE adjust tool in link. I think it has become more smooth.I want to add, that those spikes also occur during idle. Usually...
I used my port that's next to the fuel rail for the Map sensor when I switched to SD. I moved the bov line to the empty plugged port on the side of the manifold (TB wide). Here's a picture for reference. It is a 1/4" bspt fitting. I couldn't get a straight 1/4"bspt to barb, so I had to get an...
Hello Everybody,I am having some funky random AFRatioEst spikes, which in turn throw off the WBfactor. The WB seems to be reading correctly, but is not showing any type of leaning out of the mixture during the spike. Can somebody review this log. The spikes can clearly been seen when I am...
In installed the fuelab kit in the original location the OEM filters sat in. It just took a little bit of playing around to line it up right, but there is enough room.
If I remember correctly, you should be able to use Evo 560's as long as you wire in the resistor pack as well; you can find them for cheap and they should be good to cover you 7-8 psi plan. Www.2gnt.com has a ton of information about stuff like this. I think that's what I read (regarding...
Hello everybody,I am just trying to add some information regarding a bumper swap from a 1ga bumper cover to a 1gb bumper cover on a 1ga body. Specifically, this applies to a 1991 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. This is in no way a guide, just a bit of extra information for the DSM world to use :thumb: My...
Hello everybody,I recently got ECMlink along with a small 16g installed. The logs attached are after the first adjustment and the second adjustment. I am tuning for idle and cruise and will move on to WOT after I get these dialed in. Any advise/suggestion is welcome seeing as I am just...
Amsoil synchromesh is what I used for years. Used it while I autocrosed back in the day, went on countless road trips, and daily driving (I still use it and never had a problem at -40* F up here on startup and daily driving); never had any complains with gear shifting or noise. It was cheaper...
Here is some info on what I did a few years back when I rebuilt the engine. I remember having the crank cleaned at the shop and tried cleaning it some more at home after I got it back, but read some stories about people spinning bearings due to that debry coming loose after the crank being...
If the case that is trying to be made is to build a better platform, what about suggesting a different platform that is better supported, newer, or not on its way out? It is fine to inform her that there are other options out there as far as building your car is concerned, but just flat out...
Stop. She didn't ask if she should sell her car and buy a turbo because of what you think. She asked about the amount of work needed to make the turbo happen. 4-5k doesn't necessarily have to be true either. You can still get a turbo kit set up with quality parts for about 2k (along with fuel)...
Morimoto is in the process of releasing a set of 4x6 led lights. They look very nice and based on HR review, they are very bright and the price for them is really good. If I lived somewhere where snow accumulation on headlights wasn't an issue, I would buy them, but I am not too confident on...
How fast does it get up to temp (or hotter than normal)? Is it nice, steady and slow? Or is very quick and short? The reason I ask is because every time I drain the coolant and replace it, I know I will have air in the system. I notice a big difference between engine heating up times when...
He has a 420a. the installation on a 4g63 is easy, on the 420a, though, it requires some effort. I upgraded to an aftermarket pulley a while back. When I have installed it, I've placed the pulley in the oven for some time and then installed it onto the crank while still hot. It slides right on...
I didn't do a LED upgrade, I just upgraded the housing and bulbs. The result was very satisfying. I have looked into getting some proper LED sealed beams 4x6, but they are expensive. There is a video floating around youtube of a guy modifying housings like our 4x6 to accept hid/led projectors...
Hello,The issues is that the plastic piece that holds the core in place doesn't fit because one of the pipes has a bend that is completely different from the original core. I have attached a picture of what I am talking about. The bottom core is the new one that I received and the top one is...
Hello all,I am in the middle of replacing the heater core. The issue that I am having is that the two replacement units that I have received from Rockauto are not right. The bends on the pipes are not right and therefore do not allow the plastic piece that holds the core in place, to sit right...
I will share my experience. I haven't replaced the front bearings/seals yet, but I have done the rears. When I installed one of the rear seals, I accidentally installed it backwards. This caused the hub to be incredibly stiff when trying to rotate. The stiffness became more noticeable as I...
Heat will directly affect the resistance of winding inside the alternator. If it's getting too hot, then that is the reason why the output may be lower as temperature increase. I still believe that you should investigate, replace or upgrade the alternator to fuse box wiring. A .8v drop is...
Like I mentioned before, if you wanna completely rule out the wiring, you are going to have to disconnect at the fuse box and at the alternator. Then "ohm out" the wires. One of the other members mentioned something about the ECU controlling the voltage. I cannot speak to this with a 2g 4g63...
With the car powered off, you could disconnect the alternator cables at the junction box and at the alternator, then measure the resistance. If its something considerable, then I would say start looking at those wires and terminals very hard.
I agree with looking at the dowels. Both dowels should be pointing up. Also, if you have the valve cover off, there are two holes in the cams that should be facing up as well.Has any material ever been removed from the head surface for any reason? If yes, then there is a pretty good chance you...
Hey guys,Sharing some information in regards to the alternator relocation option for a 1g dsm. I purchased the alternator relocation kit from Jay racing. I opted to go with a saturn alternator as well. The kit for the saturn alternator is slightly different: the adjustment rod is shorter. With...
Hey all,I meant to do this info sharing a long time ago, but just got around to it. I decided to convert my sealed headligths to a housing that accepted H4 bulbs. There are different brands out there that offer the housings, but after doing some research I decided to go with Autopal Euro style...
Hello all,I thought I should share some information in regards to block heaters. For those of us who live up north, these little things are a must. The problem is tracking down the correct one for our engines. There were some posts about people having issues getting the right ones. The part...
Hello all,This post is just to share with the community an extra idea as to where else the FPR can be mounted. I decided to keep all my solenoids and keep the connectors near the stock location.I bought a piece of sheetmetal at home depot, molded it, cut it and drilled holes to fit it...
The resistor mod mentioned above might or might not work. I've read about it working for some and not for others. In my personal experience, when I did it, it did not work. The code would always come back. A better solution is to hook the system back up, but leave the block off plate on the...
First things first, before you count anything as broken and start spending big money and spending time tearing stuff apart, do a boost leak test. After the rebuild that I did, I did a leak test, and found some big leaks. Always troubleshoot and try out easy things before going for the big item...
Hello,The idle problem that I had was pretty bad, almost like the one you described. Fix the leaks. Even though small, they still can cause a problem. Make sure you're checking all the possible points of leaking: Every coupler, Every piece that has a gasket, etc. Also, check that the tps...
I was going through something similar recently. Here's a link to my post. It even includes what ended up being my issue. It should give you some ideas as to what to check.

The grounding cable goes from the firewall to the intake manifold. I have mine connected to that flat piece that let's you adjust the tension on the throttle cable. The other end goes to a point on the firewall (chassis ground). I am not home, but if you still need help by then, I will look...
The connector in the first pic goes to the reverse switch on the top of your transmission (kinda under the battery tray). The second and third pics I don't know ( sorry). The last one I believe goes to your intake to firewall (grounding point). Sorry I didn't have all the answers, but...
It's all good. Thank you for your response. I blocked off the valve a while ago and it idles fine when I ground the points under the hood and Dash. This is a very interesting issue. What are the chances that the ecu is the issue? How could I check? Look for the drivers and see if they're...
Gentlemen,I have a 91 TSI AWD 6 bolt with a manual trans, stock turbo, stock injectors, stock fuel system, stock boost levels. I rebuilt it about 1500 miles ago. It had a very bad idle surge problem that turned out to be the FIAV (I blocked it). I fixed that and then the car idled very good...
I did. There was a couple of things wrong. The first one was that the idle switch wire connector was hanging on by a couple of strands of wire. That combined with some corrosion could've been causing part of the problem. The other part was that the throttle cable was not adjusted correctly...
