I beg to differ. SAFC's are pretty universal. They are not specific to DSM's, or turbos. They merely pickup the airflow sensor's readings and change them before the ECU sees them. The 420a's utilize a map sensor, IIRC...If you're going turbo though, I might recommend something like...
Not sure what you're asking, "shaft size", but the 14b's are TD05's, as are the 16G'sIn a 14B, all of the blades are the same size.In a 16G, the blades alternate between high and low.
Note the difference in the pic below, the 14b is on the left; the 16G is on the right.
You can see...
K, I actually remember having very loud lifters the last time the car was run... (it wasn't even run for 15min, maybe moved 20 ft, and 2nd trans exploded, onto the AWD now)^I'll pop one of those lifters out and check it...I wish I had the money, I'd swap for 3rd gen lifters...Before the...
^sry, I'm used to workin' on V6's (see Stealth/3000GT ;))What is the torque pattern/spec for the cams? I don't have a manual yet, and have only gone so far as I could find specs (I don't want to do anything wrong and damage this, I'm in new territory here)
Everything seems to move when you rotate the cams, the heads were rebuilt not too long ago, I was told a/b 30k.Edit: I didn't even get to put 15k on the car, when the trans broke(x2)
Hey, not getting into a lot of details, but I pulled my heads. 4 valves (intake, cylinder 2 & 3) weren't closing all the way. I never had a problem out of the car, that I knew of. It used to have idle issues, but I fixed that with a lot of gaskets. Timing was dead on, never heard pistons...
Are you trying to get the axle out of the transmission or the spindle or both?VFAQ has a writeup, though this is for the AWD, it should be a very similar process...Edit: Here's the Method #2:^That's what I do... it's easiest to break the nut loose on the axle before jacking the car...
Sorry, I guess I should have posted that info. I'm having trouble locating the paper I wrote that info down on, I'll see if I have it at work tomorrow.
Can anyone tell me any specifics of this turbo? I don't know what it came from, or what hp it would push. Could anyone locate a compressor map?Sorry, these are the best pics I have of this turbo. I do know that it has a .42 compressor housing and a .63 exhaust housing. It was...
It's all good man, I just wanted to protect my accomplishments and make sure you didn't think I was trying to quarrel with you over the issue...I was unaware that the SSautochrome FMICs were good/recommended, but I'll check out that thread.Yes, the Evo FMICs usually run a/b $350 here...
I never came in here to argue... I came in here with the intentions of warning someone of buying a product that I don't feel has any bit of quality (SS turbos)... I then realized it was about FMICs... You have repeatedly attacked me and my plans...I wish you to know some of the cars I've...
Indeed, I would not pay what companies are asking for FMIC's($1k+)... I have a local shop to do my FMIC, for ~$50... and the EVO FMIC would be sufficient to run on a DD...
I realized what this thread was a/b after I posted... all I saw at first was the company name...lol, I've heard to buy E-bay FMICs, but never really looked into it... my car had one when I bought it, and I could pick up a stock Evo FMIC for $100... why do I need e-bay :p
Hey, your name and profile implies that you have a 1G...If so, then no... the AWD conversion would require extensive work and the fabrication of many parts. The 1G's don't have the drive shaft tunnel. The 2G's do, and therefore can perform the conversion... I've already researched this...
Don't quote me on this, I'm going on hearsay... I've heard about their turbos falling apart, something about being glued together...Anyone know about this?Again, I have no firsthand proof, this is just what I overheard...Take it and do with it what you will
How do you think parts and modifications get tested???It takes someone to think outside of the box and have some balls(and smarts) to try something...Rice over Wheat, I really like the car. You got bigger kahones than I, I'm scared to go cutting on a car... It looks good though, and...
Ok, which wire did you tap off of?I really suggest tapping the boost gauge off of the dimmer switch. If not there are a few other places you can wire it.The reason I suggested looking at the stereo wiring, is because Sytrus' CD player remained on when everything else dimmed...
Can you please elaborate?I always put mine on in Neutral, but I put them in gear and turn the input shaft in each gear beforehand, to make sure each gear turns like it is supposed to (no grinding or binding). It seems like the transmissions would be able to still rotate the input shaft and...
Ok, you never directly said this, so I'm going to ask again: Is your BOV vented to atmosphere or recirculated into the intake? (your car can stutter if it's vented and you run the stock Karman intake sensor)Also, could this "stutter" be the wastegate opening?
Glad you're getting stuff straightened out. I really suggest getting a logger at this point. You should NOT use the stock (narrowband) O2 sensor to tune. The reason it is showing 1V is because at WOT, the ECU turns the O2 trims to 100% (it ignores the O2 sensor, which is why it's important to...
hm... this is familiar. It was either 2nd or 3rd in my Talon. Someone put hte radiator hose on wrong, and it was interfering with the shifter arms. Like everyone else has said, check the linkage (first). If not, it is most likely the teeth on the gear, they may be rounding themselves or even...
Nice to see someone from NC. In my '97 RS, I had a testpipe, and never had any problem passing. It never threw my CEL though, and that's why. I didn't have to pass a visual.
These guys (in '04) seem to think you'd be ok: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=155534&highlight=cat+gas+mileageThese guys in '06 reaffirmed that when they told a guy that his gas mileage didn't go down due to a racepipe. More than likely, it was his exhaust ground strap...
wow, check your grounds, and especially the wiring on that stereo. Make sure that there's nothing touching the body (grounding when it's not supposed to)...this is really weird... might want to try moving wires around to see if there are any you can find that are shorted internally...
Ok, the second sensor serves the purpose of telling the ECU if the catalytic converter is doing its job (tattletale). It shouldn't hurt anything to remove that sensor, other than throwing a CEL. The simulator would eliminate the CEL problem. The only problem is, if you have to pass...
Ok, I kinda indirectly linked to this yesterday, but let me explain. To determine which pump is best for you, you should look at your goals. You have to look at your turbo size, injectors, and how much air your engine can move. The turbo will be rated for a certain efficiency, check the...
yeah, I had a pic of the world's biggest turbo (for marine use) but I lost the link and didn't feel like looking for it...IIRC, the company's name is IHS, but don't quote me on that... if all else fails, google world's biggest turbo^that is quite insane BTW...
you could possibly have a leak, therefore the A/F mixture will run rich, so much so that you could be hitting fuel cut?!?I'm sry, I have been fighting with the ex (over custody) and my sugar dropped several times yesterday, I'm not really in a good frame of mind.
I'm not for certain on the FPR, though they look similar, IIRC.I'm not going into a long spill, (this has been covered many times) but the stock O2 sensor (narrowband) should not be used for tuning. Now, with that said, maybe at idle you are seeing too little fuel, yet under boost...
Are you sure that the ticking isn't coming from the valve cover? the valves in the 420A like to get noisy, especially around time for an oil change...You said that you're pretty sure that the noise isn't coming from the engine? around where is it coming from then? Make sure that there...
Awesome, ### keep me updated... especially if it does go bad... I've got enough problems, and would like to be on the lookout for potentials...Other than that, again, I envy the build... the engine looks bad ass, and I know he enjoys it...:kudos:
If you're going to upgrade your turbo and fuel system, you also might want to throw in:A new muffler bearingA Heavy Duty Clutch BeltAnd last but not least, an Engine Oil Bypass KitFigured I'd let my secrets out of the bag... Kalecoauto is where I buy all my go fast parts...
So the weld is holding up???### say yes, this might give my FWD hope...(or at least a momentary ray of hope, til I realize it's still a DSM and prone to breaking, and will take more money than I'm making to keep it running:P)
Hey man, with that "ear" that broke off the block... I would scrap the block and start with another (you can keep the internals)... I've never heard any good stories about welding them back on. That ear is what grenaded a transmission in my car with less than 2 miles into the ride. My last...
