  1. Stand alones

  2. My new injury: Tore my Medial Meniscus Tendon in half...

knee surgery last year....Don't even notice it much now.For long term damage mine was minimal but for pain it sucked. I hyper extended the knee (and thankfully didn't tear every ligament in half) and sucked the soft tissue in front of the knee through it displacing the cartlidge. Eventually...
  3. t3/t4e 60-1 turbo... what injectors??

read my posts in this thread to give a brief explaination of injector to pump sizing. particularly the post on page three with the pulse to time explaination through cycles.http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141667&page=3&highlight=injector+pulseNow as I read back through...
  4. 2G timing problems?

WTH are you doing at 20+ psi on 91 octane. That right there could be a major problem with boost. At this point the first thing you need to do is check the compression and make sure the engine wasn't damaged by the bad gas and low octane mixed with high boost. If you can scope the pistons...
  5. Running rough..low rpm only

easiest check: Plug wiresAlso check the water levels and look for smoke. The mitsu heads can puncture above the valves and leak water through the exhaust ports. At low RPMs it causes problems and at high RPMs you just blow it away. Vapor will be very evident. Not fun I have had that...
  6. Starter problems

Make sure the starter is also held by the correct bolts.Any play in how the starter engages the flyweel can cause the teeth to wear. Don't cause a big problem with a small mistake.
  7. General SAFC out of tune?

A little more information would be helpfull. What gage are you using for boost? What does the stock gage read? What is your throttle like? When you say the car stutters what do you mean? Does the car just stop? Does it stop giving more power? Does it litteraly stutter and lurch...
  8. Clutch not fully Engaging, Gears wont shift

A few things to check before you drop the tranny.Try pumping the clutch while sitting still and use all the gears. This will help check for air in the system and a bad syncro.Bleed the system to death!!!! I usually rig up a piece of clear plastic hose so i can see the fluid coming out...
  9. Very strange problem-Getting sensor variation on logger when car is not running.

so everything wasn't running fine in the other car. Glad that you found the problem.Replacing the capacitors is fairly easy. You can do it yourself with some parts from your local electronics store.
  10. Houston

    Thats houston for you.
  11. clutch stuck to the floor

What does that say? I am far from perfect, but even I don't type nearly that bad. We are not thugs here and speaking that way makes technical discussion very hard.If this is only a spring issue you should be able to manually pump the clutch with your hand and get it to disengage the...
  12. 2G Holy **** look at this!! Just pulled my water pump

Here is all I have to say...from somewhere else. This assumes the oil/pistons/pan/cylinders look good.A cooling system problem will not immediately blow the engine......At worst he gets no coolant flow and the temps never stabalize...much easier to try it and see if you can get the...
  13. Very strange problem-Getting sensor variation on logger when car is not running.

I assume you meant you put his ECU in your car.We need a little more information about what is happening.#1 IC stands for integrated circuit and is made of silicon layers. These CAN NOT click. something else is clicking...fuel relays maybe?#2 is the key in the run position (I...
  14. Houston

Anything happening in the houston area. Havn't driven the DSM in a while and could use a bite and a chat if anyone is interested.
  15. Been out of the game...

WTH man...it takes 5 seconds to check the timing on the cam gears...just pull the cover and take a look. DO IT. Don't speculate on the timing when you can KNOW.
  16. Anybody in Austin, TX area?

If yall want to get a weekend going where we can get together and help you out let me know (pm). This really isn't the place for this thread BTW.It would help if you told us what was wrong with your car that way we can diagnose in this thread. This would not only be the correct place for...
  17. 1G Electrical Problem Please Help!!!!!

Check alternator to ground. Check alternator to positive battery. If these are good and you do not get 13+ volts with the car running from the alternator post to the alternator shell then the alternator is bad...period.
  18. new help bad!!!

Fix the belt and compression check the engine. Until you do this or pull the head and leak test it you will have no idea about the valves.
  19. question for the wisemen

LOLI don't give too many rep points... But on occasion...
  20. Turbo System Question

Not really. If you have a leak from the TB back you will fail all 3 tests and not know where the leak is untill you have done so. If you start at the TB and work to the turbo you will know the location with the first test. Work smarter not harder. You may be hitting compressor surge...
  21. Clutch Slipping - Symptoms

A slipping clutch will not bog the engine. If your clutch is slipping the engine will rev disproportionately(sp) to the speed of the vehicle.
  22. Noticed a few things, please help!

Fix the wire. With premium in the car you will notice a significant bonus in power under high boost. The fans are working normally. The fan will cycle to regulate the temperature. Turn on the ac and the other fan should come on constantly.
  23. Where's Waldo(a.k.a. oil leak)

Clean the entire area with brake cleaner or something. Then crawl under the belt side of the car and have a friend rev the engine. It is common that the front seals will leak when the engine is revved.
  24. MBC set at 15psi, running 22psi?

Remove the boost controller....If you still are not boosting correctly you have either a creep problem or the actuator is broken/disconnected.
  25. Can't get rims off.

If you are going to have rims with lockers you might want to invest in a lugnut cracker. It is always nice if one of the people in your car support structure has one.
  26. Boost Leak? Or something Different....

Your profile does not mention any gages. Which gage are you reading the boost on. If you are still using the stock gage I would suggest getting a true pressure gage. The stock gage uses readings from the airflow to guess what the intake pressure is. If you have anything done to your car...
  27. 1G Accessory belt off and lower pulley looks tilted

I am assuming that you are describing the big pully at the very bottom of the engine. In this case it is the harmonic balancer and if you are lucky it just seperated. The fix is to just replace it with another.Do not pull the large bolt in the center just the outer ring of smaller bolts...
  28. whats the cause of this (turbo)

Normally the system would be black....usually very black. The 90 TSI was mapped down to something like 9:1 AFR during high boost which will result in a LOT of carbon.A white exhaust is a sign of the system running lean or having a water injection system...possibly both. As stated before if...
  29. odd white grayish smoke

as stated white smoke is usually coolant. Running lean will not produce smoke at all.other than that you are pretty on ti. Except to mention that if you get smoke on shifts it may be a recirc problem. This is turbo/dsm specific info though.
  30. Type of Insurance for Track only car?

Comprehensive without liability. You will have to have the adjuster come out and check the car and give a value to the car and aftermarket parts. Then they will quote you a price to protect these against:Theft Fire Acts of god ETCAll of these can happen in the garage as easily as on...
  31. whats the best spark plug for a turbo car?

.028? Can't see that spark jumping over a quarter of an inch....
  32. Stock Car Max PSI

Currently your car will be limited by its ability to provide fuel to the cylinders. As the ammount of fuel required is a function of mass flow and not absolute intake pressure we are unable to provide you with a definative answer to your question. I suggest you do not listen to any of the...
  33. Always wondered how people came to this....

Was your dipstick loose when you pulled over? My engine looked exactly like that last time the dipstick blew out.
  34. Turbo Newbie

I hope I just took some of those comments wrong. If you by any stretch of the imagination ment to call an individual a bad name......lets just not go there. As far a modifying your car goes you will have to do it slow and run through it. There really isn't an easy way to just explain it all...
  35. What Can I Do To Make My Talon Faster?

Bwahaha that is a great comment.Seriously with the 1.8 you will never ever make it fast without gobs of time and money.IMHO you can pick up a 1g and mod it for the price of the 2g. If you just want the function and don't care about the form the 1g is a better bet.
  36. Yo soy un newbalone. :)

    Welcome and good luck!!!
  37. 95 Tsi AWD Idle Problem

LOL second post tonight saying this exactly. The ISC is a stepper motor using several coils. One coil can fail at any time and can lead to a suddenly failed ISC.Yes it can fail over night.
  38. No P/S pulley????

You don't need both. That said removing your powersteering belt could cause the water pump to wear prematurely. You do have the alternator hooked up still right? Several companies out there make a bracket so you can put it where the ac is stock.Did you remember to loop the lines on your...
  39. Mysterious rare 1g.

I am not sure of this at all but didn't the euros get a 1g with a targa top? I know a few here in the US have tried to convert to this but I believe a few in Europe came from the factory that way.IMHO the Targa would be the rarest.
  40. My car got broken into!

You do not need full coverage. Just get "comprehensive" to cover theft, fire, acts of god, etc. That said very very few insurance policies cover "contents" and "aftermarket parts". That would mean that radios, loggers, etc would not be covered.
  41. check out huge misprint by import tuner magazine!!

I am more upset by the article itself. The sentence structure and paragraph structure are all wrong. I admit that I am not a writer...but neither is that guy. I just hope he didn't get paid for the 5 minutes it took to throw that together.
  42. o2 sensor bad?/First Log

What do you have for fuel management?
  43. How much horse power is in 1 psi?

All of my posts have been to correct information and/or tell it to you straight.Get over it you can not boil down a car to 1 psi = x horsepower....it can't be done.
  44. Why know body follows the basic tuning guideline?

I didn't rant. I seriously thought that english had to be your second language. Now I KNOW better.Seriously I have NO grasp on what you are asking. Do you want to KNOW if anyone ever uses the tuning guide? Do you want to KNOW if they have any success? In general if you follow the...
  45. Oil Stick Shooting Up

Yes past the rings as others have mentioned.I have found that the problem, if only seen under boost, is caused by inadequate crankcase ventilation. This is caused by 2 things. The relief on the left side of your head is clogged. Make sure it is piped up correctly. The rings are...
  46. How much horse power is in 1 psi?

Drop it!!!You can not equate pressure to horsepower. You can not equate a turbo to horsepower. You can not equate a turbo to CFM.Don't try. Forget it alltogether.
  47. How much horse power is in 1 psi?

:notgood:2G Turbo has 8.5:1 compression 1G Turbo has 7.8:1 compression
  48. New here! Check out my newest ride..

Why would you get so many different non-boosted cars. At least with boosted versions it would make sense as they might be hard broke.
  49. Why know body follows the basic tuning guideline?

I wish you luck in learning english. I understand how hard it can be to learn a second language. To answer your question, there are many ways to skin a cat. Individuals will deviate from these guidelines on purpose. This can be because they wish to do things differently or have a need for...
