I'm surprised at the number of members in this thread who joined the forum in 2002. There's a lot of familiar names here. So I had to drop in to say Hi. I got my first DSM the week after I graduated from college, it was a 1990 Laser that I bought in 1994. I don't have a DSM anymore but somehow...
For Sale, rebuilt T-case from a 92 Talon. This was my spare T-case, it was removed from the car when it was stock with just 92k miles on it, then it was rebuilt with new seals, New 23 spline input shaft, and shimmed a little tighter to hold more power. Never used, it's been on the shelf. It's a...
You threw me off when you said you plan to go 145mph, that's a little slow for a highly modified 1/2 mile car. I went 173 when my DSM made around 750, so if you make around 650 in a FWD that'll put you around the 160+ MPH range. At those speeds it's important to have at least an OEM wing on the...
Get these, it's the right diameter and they fit stock rims.

Why are you still on stock rims if you have such a big build everywhere else?
I wouldn't go bigger than .0035". I've run as tight as .0020 on mains and rods and it did great at over 650AWHP and 9200 rpm rev limit.
Also, you can mix bearings to adjust the clearance in fine increments. For example, if you want to tighten the rod clearance by .0005, use the King +.001 on...
I also use a standard bearing splitter and a press. Some of the tighter gears are removed in pairs, such as 3rd gear and the 3/4 hub with the sleeve for 4th. Also, the small bearing on the input shaft is tough to remove. I typically cut two grooves in it with a dremel, then the bearing splitter...
+1 on heim seals, aka dust covers. I use them and they keep out the rain and grit.I had straight upper arms on my car for 3 years with no problems, plenty of clearance. It was set up fairly stiff with moderate drop tho.
For Sale, 1G DSM rooftop bike rack. Fork mount, fits any bike with a quick release front wheel; road bikes, track bikes, fixxie, and some mountain bikes.
$150 OBO
IIRC the input shaft spec is .000 to .004" freeplay, while the other shafts need preload. I've built it with a few thou preload on high power builds and it works fine. If it's too tight it will be hard to get into first gear when the car is stopped.
Hey Brian! How's it going?
I know a guy who just swapped his out. They're full trailing arms with GVR4 4 lug hubs, good axles and bearings. I'll get in touch and see if he still has them.
Where did you measure the piston? It should be measured on the skirt level with the bottom of the wrist pin.It can be difficult to measure with digital calipers, it's best to use a micrometer. Another way to measure PTW clearance is to use a feeler gauge. Simply place the feeler gauge...
Yes, remove and replace from the center out, follow the tightening sequence. I'll torque the ARP's down to 60 Ft-lbs when I first install them, after they're all installed I'll go back and torque them down to 90.
I've used Eagle cranks on a few builds, they're good cranks BUT they must be prepped and installed by an experienced engine builder. They must have the internal oil passages cleaned, the screw plugs must be checked and locked into place, and the oil clearances must be measured and adjusted...
V8's tend to use .015" since the rods are paired up on a common rod journal. Your clearance is good for a 4 cylinder engine. It's not one of the most critical dimensions anyway. You should be more worried about the main and rod oil clearance, piston to wall clearance, and piston ring end gaps.
5 thou is fine. The manual calls for .0039 to .0098"
Do they seem tight in any other way? You should be able to wiggle them side-to-side with light finger pressure.
The coolant temp is a little wacky, check the wires that go to the sensor, they tend to corrode over time, become brittle and have intermittent contact. I'd also lean out the spoolup area a little where it dips into the tens (AFR) around 3500rpm in second. For 91 octane aim for 10.8 to 11.0 AFR...
For Sale, Carbon Fiber Hood, fits 92-94 1Gb DSM. Good condition, slight fading in one small area, fits well. $350 OBO Also includes a pair of hood pins. Local pickup prefered, can deliver to local Bay Area locations.
For Sale, FIC 2150cc injectors Set of 4, high impedance, excellent condition, clean and well maintained. Injectors were pickled after removal. Includes plug and play pigtails for easy installation. No lower seals, you should get new OEM Mitsu lower seals when installing these.

I'd also recommend installing a set of adjustable cam gears too. You can change the powerband to match the turbo better, or to suit your mood. For example, I have a set of Kelford 272's in my car. They make great peak power but trade off some bottom end. When I commute and do long trips I like...
Here's a quick tip for the 1G guys- The rearview mirror from a 3G Eclipse fits the 1G, so if your mirror is delaminating and loosing it's finish you can replace it with a new, clean 3G mirror.
It drives like any other twin disc. There's some light chatter when you push the pedal down, that's it. No grinding, in fact it shifts great since the discs are smaller than stock.
I'm the original owner. I purchased it approx 4 years ago, but it's been rebuilt since then and only driven on the street. That's why the friction discs and plates are still like new. Do you have a 6 bolt swap in your DSM?Dave W.
For Sale, PTT twin disc clutch for 6 bolt AWD. Good condition, all surfaces are smooth, also includes hardware, alignment tool and PTT TOB. Discs have very little wear, measured thickness shows 75% remaining. $675 OBO. Let me know if you have any questions or need more pics.
For Sale; Rota Slipstream 15 X 7 rims with M+H RaceMaster slicks, 8.5/24.5 x 15. Wheels are in great shape, only used on the track so they're very clean. Tires have plenty of rubber on them, no burnouts, see pics. Super light, very sticky.
$600 OBO for all 4.I can also throw in a...
Are you using the upper or lower switch on the clutch pedal? I prefer the lower switch since it keeps the power on a little longer and brings the power back in a little quicker. I typically see .3 second shifts.
Does anyone know someone who's good with TIG and MIG welding? Let me know if you have spare time and can drive to the Hayward/Union City area. Tell a friend! Please reply via PM.
Thanks
Hi Jose,
It can be a little confusing to sort through the different gear ratios when also looking at the final drive ratio as well. I like to use an online gear calculator at f-body.org/gears. If you punch in the various ratios and compare a fwd trans to AWD trans you'd see that the AWD trans...
How good are you with newer Garrett turbos? I found one with a turbine wheel that has 9 blades and measures approx 54mm OD. It's an odd number of blades, so I can'e measure directly. Is it a GT25 or GT28 wheel?
Check out JayRacing.com They have a coolant fitting that goes on the head between the cam gears so coolant flows in and out through the head. It's meant to be used with an electric water pump. The 4G63 is a strong block. Many have run over 700 awhp on unfilled blocks. If you honestly think...
You're tune won't be too far off. I've seen that the benefits of ethanol start to taper off around E60, or 60% ethanol. There's still some benefit to running full E85, but cold weather also helps reduce knock anyway. The quick and easy answer is to turn the boost down 1 or 2 psi and you'll be...
