I searched already and only found 2 threads on all weather tires. I'd love to get a tire that can hook nicely on the street and still be at least fairly capable in the winter. A few people said it's nearly impossible to get a true "all weather" tire, but are there any reasonably capable tires...
Thanks for all the replies guys!:thumb:I'm not too worried about the tire situation, they're almost the exact same tire, aside from tread pattern...and anyone who starts telling my that will cause problems can blow it out their a$$. I was working at a shop doing tire crap for a while, will...
I do realize I'll be needing all 4 tires replaced, unfortunately money was an issue and I could only get 2. They're same brand and same size so the difference should be very minimal. I should be alright for a little while at least...it's not like I'm driving a lot anyway. I work 4 miles from my...
Just got done installing my new 3" downpipe/test pipe and the car definately woke up! It's a noticable difference, but here's the new issue. I'm not too worried because I know it's nothing major, and the car runs GREAT, but I'd like to know my next step...When I hit it and try to shift at...
I've been pretty damn pleased with my Talon:D , aside from a few minor mishaps it's been a good daily. I've had it for a little over 3 months and spent about $900, mostly on preventative maintainence, a few minor mishaps, and a few mods. Here's the list of where my money/blood/sweat/tears have...
Yea I'm actually trying to figure out what else I can do to make the engine bay look better...if I can work up the courage and patience I might paint the "Buschur Racing" letters black to match everything. Any ideas for other accents?
Car's done, new timing belt, water pump, BS belt, cam seals, thermostat, valve cover gasket and of course...the new valve cover!Check out the new motor pics here...www.cardomain.com.id/nighthawk355x
Nah, It's not that, I just e-mailed them. The gasket they use is too thick, when I tried it without the gasket it was dead on. I'm just going to find a thinner gasket at an auto parts store.
Thanks for the comments guys! I did indeed get the cap from Bonehead Performance off one of their e-bay auctions. For some reason they pulled their auctions off e-bay but if you find their site you can order one off there. You can get it powdercoated any of like 2 dozen colors. ...not sure why...
Just got done painting up my new valve cover and I figured I'd show off. :D what do you guys think? Not bad considering I didn't really try too hard. It was used and started out the typical grey with red letters. I sanded it, sprayed it high temp satin black, and polished the letters. Also taped...
Anyone feel free to jump in and correct me if I'm wrong because I'm still pretty noob-esque, but if I understand correctly the 16g is only a bolt on upgrade for Talons/Eclipses, it didn't come stock on the cars. It was off the EVO III but fits our cars perfectly(I've got the smaller one). As for...
WTF Holy crap!! What insurance co. do you have if you don't mind me asking? I've got basic coverage on my talon and it's $1500 for the year, soon to be $1385 total for my talon and mustang with the new company I'm going to. And on top of that my record isn't very stellar. Do you have full...
Yea definately check that out...that's the very reason I now know about the Royal Purple fluid...I had to fix the 5th gear pop-out problem the car had when I bought it. And it was the 36mm nut that came loose. If you search my member name you'll find my thread on it from like 2 weeks ago...
I got mine for $9.99 a quart at a local performance shop. If you use it be sure to add your 2 cents to this thread...if anything like i said it'll help out anyone who searches do a better comparo.Edit: And solo92s10 is right, I'm retarded...it's called "Synchromax", I mixed up the names...
I just wanted to put up my .02 on a trans fluid brand that I haven't seen too many comments on here on the forums. I've seen more than a few topics on the BG fluid and the Redline stuff, but almost nothing on this. I just replaced my fluid with the Royal Purple Synchromax, and so far in the past...
I plan on it, but I want to explore the cheaper fix first, just in case. If the gear were completely shot it should pop out all the time, even when you coast. With this it stays in gear fine, but only when you're coasting or slowing down in gear.
I've been searching and I can't find what I'm looking for. My car pops 5th when you accelerate, it'll go in fine, no grinding at all, it stays in when you're coasting but when you accelerate it pops out.I've seen a few posts on it when I searched but none had what I was looking for. I...
Just checked my car out in the daylight and it WAS the IC piping! I didn't notice it yesterday night ### I had no flashlight and my street has no lights on it. Thanks a lot for the help everybody!
I made the mistake of beating my car today and as always...PROBLEMS! Everything was great, boosting fine, then, all of a sudden, the car started lagging like hell. It basically wouldn't rev past 2000 rpm in any gear without stuttering like it was going to backfire. The car wasn't smoking at all...
It's not crushed at all, just a stock 1g bov. I've got a few upgrades on the car, I haven't seen the boost gauge go nutty at wot, it usually sees around 12lbs boost on my 16g turbo. I may have to check the vacuum lines...
You can also use the sockets they use to take out stripped bolts, lightly hammer the socket onto the lug, (make sure it will clear the rim around the lug before you do this) and then loosen it up. You can get them at most any place you can buy tools...Sears has em.
Agreed! Bottom line is, cars are a labor of love...if you don't love the car, don't bother with it. You'll never get back what you put into a car money-wise, so if you don't get any emotional gratification from it then no, it's not worth it. If the car is what you want then make it what you...
Just a n00b being a worrysome PITA...I searched but didn't really find much to help me out with this.I've got a 1g BOV on my 97 Talon, it was setup to recirculate, just like it should be, but the hose to recirculate it was RIGGED! It was crimped to hell and really didn't fit right...it was...
It's killing me, I want to go to the meet bad but I work 12 hours saturdays...stupid work! And my head's not on backwards...this car kicks ass! For what you pay for a 997 you damn well better fall in love with it!It wouldn't be half as exciting to me if I had to pay out the a$$ for all the...
Yeeah...I'm going have to go ahead and disagree with you on that one. I'm with olmytsi on this issue...I've heard the old "DSM's break constantly" thing way too much. I know like 6 guys with these cars as their daily and ONLY cars and they never have any major problems unless they beat the balls...
I missed that one, thanks! Forgot to search for "tranny" fluid. Anyone know where I can find the BG Synchromesh II? Either online or at a shop in Jersey?
I need some advice on what type of fluid to use in my 97 TSI's trans. The trans takes a solid 15 minutes to warm up and until then it's a bit clunky shifting second. I know that's a fairly common thing, but is there any particular fluid I could use to help it out a little? Maybe to either...
Thanks for the welcome guys! Thanks for the advice, I've actually been looking into them and I have heard a few negative things. And after thinking about it I do think the novelty would wear off quickly...plus it takes away from the sleeper effect:D . Is there another good atmospheric BOV I...
Lol, yea I know...I'll probably be heart broken at some point. But unlike most relationships I can rebubild this one exactly how I want it and make my own happy ending:D
Picked up my car friday, first DSM I've ever owned and I can't believe what I've been missing out on!OMG I LOVE IT!! I'm so hooked it's not even funny!Long live :talon: !black/grey 97 TSI AWD turbo, 5sp, 116k, EVO III 16g, ported manifold, ported o2 housing, cat-back, Injen intake...
Just found out the car I want has a problem with 5th gear. I'm trying to decide if I should go through with it or not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here's the deal...
97 AWD TSI, black, grey interior, 115k miles, car looks amazing, lowered, aftermarket intercooler, short throw...
Well, I'm taking the car as of this friday for the said price of $5800, or technical $5300 out of my pocket. Here's the specs...97 TSI, awd, 5sp, 117k miles, Black w/grey cloth, gunmetal rims, all powers, brand new EvoIII 16G turbo at 108,000 miles, Injen intake, XS Power FMIC, 1G BOV...

Nice! I'm like 5 minutes up Rt 1 from there! I'll stop by one of these days.Edit: Yea, the 510 is in the mustang. I'd kill to have that in an AWD though...maybe that'd fix my little traction issue:D
Hey guys, NOOB here, don't want to butt in but next time you guys have a meet I'd like to come, if you don't mind of course. I'm hoping to pick up my 1st DSM in the next few weeks!:rocks: I'm not sure whether to bring the DSM or the Mustang, but I could definately use more gear-head friends to...
I'll definately keep that clutch in mind, thanks for the input! And lets say "technically" I'm only paying $5300 for the car because I'm making $500 profit on the truck I'm selling:D , so again, is it worth the trouble or should I keep looking?
