I bought a regular cap last weeK. I do not think is pre-vented. I am asking because I am trying to fix a problem with the evap circuit. I check the voltage on the ecu to see if the Canister selonoid for the Evap was being grounded. The Volt reads about 13 V but never ground(never goes to 0). I...
96 TSIWhenever I open my gas cap, I never get a "HISS" or pressure release from the tank. I heard, I am supposed to but, I never get this "SOUND", neither with full tank nor empty. Is this normal?
Pre-Vent represents the latest in fuel cap technology and is designed to permit the controlled release of fuel tank pressure from volatile fuels. While removing the cap to refuel, a 1/2 turn of the Pre-Vent cap releases the fuel tank pressure into the atmosphere before the cap's sealing gasket...
He took the 1996 TSI(my car) stock turbo and replace it with a 1g turbo. He kept the 2g hoses on the car and use some kind of rubber adapter to compensate for the length.
yes it wasn't a small opening, it was huge. It looks like the previous owner replace the 2g turbo with the 1g but used the same lower intercooler air hose and use some kind of rubber adapter. That rubber adapter couldn't handle the job and cracked...
I've seen this before but I still have no answer. I check all the line and see no leaks anywhere. So I'm driving my car (1996 fwd tsi) to the dealer to get the readiness for the monitors and the emsissions done ~$250 here in GA. I drive the car very gentle for about 45 minutes. I decided to...
http://autocenter.weber.edu/OBD-CH/documents/newdocuments/Mitsubishi/tsb0313005.pdfI will take your advice and go to see if I can get the waiver before going crazy and spend all this money.thanks for all your help.
Choices;
1. get another 99 ecu and take my chances:sneaky:
2. e-prom and dsm link:coy:
3. pay the dealer $225 every year:barf:
4. set the car on fire......:toobad:
I just finished the test in both ECU 99 and 96.1996 ECU
OFF 0.0V
ON ~ 12.5 V
Runing ~ 13.8vafter a minute or so, the ECU grounded the solenoid and the voltage went down to 0.0V and stay there for a while and then came back up to 13.8v. No codes on the reader.1999 ECU...
Yes i do have the old ECU 1996 and swap it last night. The car runs better with it and the is no clicks in the solenoid. Even when idles, you can tell the difference. I get no codes on this one(1996). I will check both today. With the 99 ecu the car kinds of stutter around 2k rpm and also...
http://www.forparts.com/ICOBDIIdiagnostics4.05.htmSince i was reading Code "P0446pd" I didn't understand what the Pd stood for. It means pending code. THis link explains!!
I was replacing a solenoid in my TSI and the harness(Connector or terminal) that goes into the solenoid has some kind of light brown color goo or substance in it. Is this normal?
nevermind all this stuff. I ordered today the Purge solenoid, it costs ~ $46. i decided to remove the batery and take a look at the canister. Guess what? The PCV purge control valve of the canister was smash. The whole top ccame off. Might have happened when I swapt the tranny. This PVC is...
if you look at the pic above, #7 is called the EVAC PURGE Solenoid. Once I erase the code P0446, this solenoid goes crazy making a "Ticking sound" Once the CEL comes up, the noise stops and the Code reads P0446.

I found this in a OBD2,100 pages long, documentThere are four tests which are performed during a typical EVAP monitor. A DTC is assigned to each test.3. Excess Vacuum Test (P0446)
This test checks for vent path restrictions. With the vent
solenoid open and purge commanded, the PCM...

my new ECU is from a 1999 gst. All monitors are ready now except for the EVAP. But I have code P0446 showuing up. This is avoiding the EVAT monitor to be ready.I notice a leak in the vaccum line attached to the BOV. Do you think this can be part of the problem with the P0446 code?
just finished the ECU Swapt. I used a 1999 GST. Now The code reader only have 4 incompleted tests. Before it has 5. (Catalyst, Evaporative system, Oxygen sensor, Oxygen sensor heater, and EGR system- NOT Completed). with the new ECU,the O2 Sensor Heater is completed.Do I need to do...

I just replace my 1996 ECU MD321912R with a 1999 ECU MD359403 and the car cranks but wont start. when I connect the old it starts fine. I replace them to fix my emission problem. Why there is a letter "R" at the end of the 96 ECU part no. sticke=-*?Also code reader shows code P0446 with...
when i bought the car, the engine light came on. They told me the code was for the oxygen sensor, the first one, the one after the exhaust. I went to the auto part and the one that match the one i had was the 93-94 awd tsi sensor, the one they gave me the first time didn't work. The plug at the...
Went to get my emissions done here in Ga 96 TSI FWD. Once the guy connected the ECU to the computer ,5 of the 8 test read "Not Completed".
Misfire- completed
Fuel system-completed
Comprehensive component -completed
Catalyst, Evaporative system, Oxygen sensor, Oxygen sensor heater, and EGR...
the motor seems to be fine because once i give it a push it goes all the way by itself and it closes without any help by itself. I notice yesterday that the sunroof kind of tilts a little whan i try to opened. Its like the left side gets a little behind.
yes. this is all good info. I think i should do some work to the block once i rebuilt it just in case i go a little higher eventually. what turbo do you guys recomend that will get me there without pushing it all the way?
