Well, wheelmax is screwing me on their package deal, so I have to buy stock size tires (195/70/14). What are some good tires that have decent winter performance, and can I get anything lower profile and not screw shit up, or should I not even bother and just get 195/70s.
I've got a basically stock street driving/street racing 97 RS. It will not ever have a turbo or nitrous in it, so it's safe to say that my HP will not be higher than 200, and likewise the torque will stay low.I think my clutch is starting to go, and I'm looking for a performance clutch...
What is the maximum front speaker size that a 97 RS front door can fit. I'm in the process of designing a component system, and want to know if I can fit a 7", or even an 8" in there.
Well, about a year and a half ago, I had the balljoint recall done on my car. Brought it to the dealer, and waited. They told me I was all set, and I drove off, never really asking any questions, satisfied with the results.Well, I just had my car in for some work to my local mechanic (who...
Well I decided to go with penn synchromesh. Headed down the the mechanic now to have him do my slave cylinder and change this fluid while it's there. Probably won't get done until tomorrow, I'll be sure to let you know how 3rd gear is after this :)
How many quarts do I need? I've seen some places online sell it in 3-quart quantities for the AWD setup. Since I don't need to fill a transfer case, do I need the third quart, or will 2 be fine?
Took a look around the forums, and I decided I'm going to change my transmission fluid in hopes of removing a grind in 3rd gear. The grind happens at all rpms, although it is far less severe if I double clutch and rev-match, or if I slam the gear quickly at higher rpms. With that said, it's...
I've got a 97 RS 5-speed with 110k on it. I have no idea when the last time the transmission had it's fluid changed. I've been having problems grinding 3rd gear for a while now (engages fine, can double clutch it fine, so I'm definetely thinking synchro), but I was also thinking that maybe...
How much does it cost to get a new synchro installed. Ballpark. Something my local mechanic will do for me, or is he going to bring me to a transmission specialist? No offense, but could you be wrong and could it be something internal to the transmission?
a couple of weeks ago, my 3rd gear started grinding. It doesn't grind all of the time however.-If I double clutch right, it doesn't grind.
-If I downshift from 4th, it grinds every time no matter what.
-If I upshift from neutral (been coasting in neutral for a few seconds or whatever), it...
ehh sorta, I still need to get a stock muffler and tailpipe (the way it's welded and pinched makes it hard to salvage anything).Gonna be like $300, but w/e :(
Various spots, the first one was on the highway (i-91), and the second was on a street in my hometown, both statiesonly staties seem to whack for it, but it's an annoyance either way.Looked at he exhaust today while trying to figure out my options with the mechanic, and the tailpipe is...
well, i sorta implied it above, but i am going to court, if I go to court and show that I have a legal exhaust at that time, they typically throw it out.And distance/level doesn't matter in massachusetts. If it's not stock, it's illegal basically.
yah i've been sort of looking around for a gs-t exhaust as well.BTW, rims in your pic, are those exels from wheelmax? I just happened to notice them. I'm pretty sure I have the exact same rims. Definetely a nice look for eclipses imo :)
It's not only that, it's cops giving tickets for loud exhausts.I need a permanent, worry-free solution that isn't very expensive, and I think the best solution at this point from thinking and reading what people have had to say, both here and other places, is to just get a random muffler...
paranoid, it's a state-by-state thing. Massachusetts (my state), is ANAL about stuff. I'd bet massachusetts compares to california for strictness of emissions and similar things.Cat is going to be way too expensive for me (I have $58 to my name right now), so I'm going to look at either...
It's just a muffler though, is it really going to do much of anything? To me, from talking with other people, both live and on the forums, the 2 main options at this point seem to be:1. Get a stock muffler and leave everything else alone.2. Get a catback that you know for a fact to be...
I just got my second ticket in a year and a half for a loud exhaust, and I'm up for inspection in a week or so (april), and inspection people don't want to pass my car because of the volume of the exhaust. It's a bossal brospeed on my 97 nt. So basically, with 2 tickets, and the need to pass...
Well I can shift EXTREMELY fast, and I can count the number of times I've missed a gear on high rpms on one hand since I got my new clutch a year ago (replaced clutch about 1-2 months after I got car). Since the clutch, I've mishifted maybe 5 times while racing. And like I said, I can shift...
just assume I have no access to tools. So $60 for ball joints, about $170 for tie-rods (need all 4), and $70 for ball joints. + say 2 hours labor?so we looking in the $300-$350 ballpark?BTW, what exactly is a camber kit? what part does it add-on to or replace? I know what it DOES...
My car was put on eibach springs (prokit) about 2 years ago (before I purchased the car), and the alignment has been good, even without a camber kit (got lucky on the rear I guess). It makes enough sense for this stuff to go due to the extra stress of stiffer springs (I also leave my KYB AGX...
Car started making creaking sounds under steering and light braking, and starts to randomly drift at highway speeds (sometimes it'll go straight, sometimes it'll drift left, sometimes it'll drift right).Bring it to mechanic, he suspects simple alignment problem, tells me to go get an...
The fact that your idle shoots down that much when turning on AC leads me to think that maybe your alternator is failing. Dunno how/if it could be related to the problem, but autozone will check it for you for free.Just a thought.
My clutch is an OEM replacement, but it's a "heavy duty" oem replacement. it's nothing crazy like an ACT 2600, but it does grab more than stock (hell anything grabbed better than the clutch when i bought it and subsequently learned to drive stick on).I'll know for sure what's up tomorrow...
haven't had a chance yet, it's down at the shope now. I'm hoping it's lines/master cylinder related :(BTW, if it is my lines, are SS clutch lines worth it at all? Or would it be just a "feel" item? (I LOVE the way my clutch feels when it's working, great for racing, fast shifts etc), so if...
so I'm driving down the road, 45 in 4th, coming to a stop light, apply brakes, downshift to 3rd, and it downshifts REAL funny. I pop into neutral, and my clutch just dissapears. Absolutely 0 pressure. Car still running, at the light in neutral. Stupid me turns it off, and it's a bi*** to get...
97 mits eclipse, manual. On COLD (freezing) starts early in the morning when I wake up, I will hear a chattering sound coming from my car that goes away when the clutch is pressed. The noise comes back when the clutch is let back out, but goes away after the car warms up. It only does it in...
well, I got my car back and brought it to another mechanic (good reputation, recommended by quite a few people).I'm not even leaking oil at all. It's the axle seal on drivers side. total cost:$20 + 2hours labor. $125 out the door.sweet deal :)
K, here's the basic info:1997 mits eclipsegot an oil leak about a week after having an antifreeze leak and getting my rad replaced. Bring it back to the mechanic that I always do, and leave it for a day (he's been busy). He calls me next day and is like yah I got bad news. You need a...
So if my stock rotors are fine, there is no sense in blowing $$$ on x-drilled/slotted ones? And there isn't anything really special for pads? I'll probably just go to meineke or something then and get some pads from there then..
well yah, getting a mid-90s "supercar" (supra, 300zx, rx7, etc) would be a great thing. But every year it gets harder and harder to find them in good condition, whereas I can go to a showroom lot, pick out a sti, pay $30,000 and drive away a 0 mileage car with 300hp and AWD, AWD being something...
jim, buying a turbo eclipse is tuff cuz I NEVER see them around here. That and I've already sunk a lot of money into this NT, so I have a feeling I'll hold onto this for a while, then maybe buy a turbo outright. And yes I want a reliable, fast daily car that is turbo.I don't want a...
Well I started leaking a small amount of coolant from the front of my car, replaced the radiator and upper and lower radiator hoses. Now I'm still leaking, I haven't pinpointed the leak yet, but I suspect waterpump. Anybody else have any other ideas?pump has 100k on it (stock).
I'm not complaining about hooking up in first (my opinion is that I hook up fine, maybe a poor description), I was more curious about whether people chirp into second or not.
ehh, I don't wheel hop AT ALL anymore with the suspension stuff. I launch my car at 3500, it spins up to around 6000 with wheels spinning, then stay at 6000 through about half of first (sounds weird I know), hook up, run to redline, shift, break traction a little bit, then from there on it's...
The thing with nitrous is that it's mostly just for straight line, when you know in advance that you want to run, and it only lasts for 10-20 seconds tops, and then you are basically done for the day. And I have to be prepared to use it, I can't just decide to downshift, spool my turbo, and fly...
When running high revs through first, do you break traction on the shifts to second? I used to chirp really bad on second shifts before my suspension stuff, but even with 215/45/17 tires, shocks and springs I still get a small amount of wheel spin on hard shifts into second. My clutch bites it...
I want to turbo my RS, but I won't be DIY, I'll be paying to have labor done for me. I currently have almost 100k, and won't be getting around to installing the kit until 110-115k (gotta save up 3500). Since I won't be DIY, I'm going to have to run around to get this thing fixed every time...
I've got a '97 Eclipse RS (so front disc only). And recently I've noticed my brakes going on the way out. Since I have many other suspension components, I figured I might as well upgrade these as well. My question is where can I get a set of front rotors for cheap (like $150 for the pair is...
