I'm heading out to Ohio in August for the shootout, but I don't want to drive the evo 7+ hours there and back and hope nothing breaks while I am there. To that end, I'm going to trailer the car there. I have a truck to tow, but need to find a trailer. I can rent one from Uhaul but it is...
Yea, there was almost no turn out this year. I think only 5 or 6 GTRs showed up and the fasted one ran like a 9.9 (that I saw). Bracket class had the most cars and the winner of the evo/wrx bracket class was a 70 year old guy driving a stock forrester.
It was in the parking lot near the 1/4 mile finish line in the middle near one of the blue garbage cans. I'm wondering if someone packed it up on their trailer
Hi everybody, great event this year! It looks like I lost my toolbox at the track yesterday 8/18. It is a small portable craftsman 3 drawer toolbox. It is red with a black top and has an act sticker on top. I have attempted to contact the track but I couldn't get anyone on the phone. This box...
Thanks! I have read some of these write ups and manuals and I'm sure I could do the tuning and learn the software, but my original point was that I already know ECMLink and am proficient in it and comfortable tuning with it. So if it wouldn't pose any major issues it would be preferable to using...
Hey guys, I'm mostly posting this thread to generate some discussion and get some feedback.Quick history:
I've been in to DSMs for about 10 years now and by no means am a guru of any sorts, but I am pretty knowledgeable. Picked up an 03 evo 8 about 3 years ago. Mostly stock, but now I'm at...
See if it runs or not, that is a big factory in determining price. If its not even running, then he may have fudged up some valves with the incorrect timing and possibly dinged up some pistons. Either way if he needs to get rid of it, start low and see what he says.
This is recommended, however not 100% necessary. I installed a stock (rebuilt) 7 bolt head on a 6 bolt block using 6 bolt ARP head studs with no clearance issues.
off the top of my head1) get a good 'safe' street tune on there while you break in the motor
2) make sure you break in the motor, motoman style
3) check for any leaks or vacuum hoses that popped off
4) boost leak test
5) compression/leakdown test
6) just drive it around and make sure...
honestly pump gas will be your bottleneck, according to what you posted. even with the large turbo, there seems to typically be a tough barrior at the 500whp mark on 93. If you were to run meth injections, e85, or race gas. I'd say 600+whp would be in your future with a good tune.
1) Regardless of these theories, you need to perform a boost leak and vacuum leak test on your car. I will bet you have a vacuum leak. You know that vacuum line running to your bov? That is what dictates the behavior of your bov. As your throttle plate closes, the air pressure in your intake...
Agree with the above two posts. Maintenance is the BEST mod you can do.Personally I think you should just verify that your car is in good mechanical condition. Check the drivetrain, axles, suspsension (including bushings). Check out the motor by doing a leakdown and/or compression test and...
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tuning-engine-management/338754-first-flashed-dsm-ecu-98-99-flashing-faq.htmlThat link will lead you to all the info you need on flashing your ECU. Having a 6 bolt motor does not affect your ability to flash the ecu.
Well it looks like you have some investigating to do. Let me see if I can give you some places to start looking1) I think you said its a 95? See if you can find out if its the stock 95 ecu, or one from a later year. 95-96 ecu's had a cas on the driver's side of the motor. late 96 and forward...
Any aftermarket gauges or logging devices? Any extra information is helpful.Based on what you posted, I would start looking at the CAS and plug wiring order. The guy just put in a new 6 bolt in a 2g and sold it, maybe he just didn't get it running right or something. Check out my post about...
1) Do you have logging software to see what the ECU is reading from the ecu-temp sensor?2) Pressure check your cooling system. You can rent a kit for free at autozone/pep boys or wheverever else to test. Make sure to test the cap as well. A leak in your cooling system could cause...
The 190 will not overrun the stock FPR. Re-wire and install the pump and you'll be fine. An adjustable FPR is recommended for proper tuning, and will be necessary should you upgrade to a 255 or larger. But for now, it will not affect your stock tune. Mod away sir.
Let's keep the negative comments out of this thread please. As for the OP, I see you're in Rockaway. My mom lives in Denville and I come up once in a while to visit. If you want to save some money, I'd be more than happy to help you install link and help tune your car. Unless you have some...
Just to add to this....I had the same gauge and a similar issue at one point and called ProSport. Make sure you have the latest coolant temp sensor. They said the old style one (thats still being sold in some places) can read incorrectly by a margin of up to like 30 or 40 degrees. But yes...
First, that is not the stock bung for an o2 sensor on your car. The stock o2 sensor locations are in the o2 housing (upstream) and after the catalytic converter (downstream). Someone probably put that bung in for a wideband sensor. But as you mentioned, I would move it further downstream to...
Ahh, small world! Yea, I wish I could find you a better shop, but I'm not familiar with any places in your area. Let me know if you want to meet up and cruise to e-town that day.
You can start out by doing a pressure test on the cooling system. You can rent the tool from any auto parts store. If you have a leaky hose, this will help you find it without the car running.
I'll also agree with the ECMLink suggestion. It does not provide as much tuning ability as the AEM EMS, BUT...1) Significantly cheaper than AEM
2) Much more user friendly, easier to learn (you can do it yourself!!)
3) Plenty of support on the ECMLink forums
4) LOADS of user input and...
This adapter is for when you put a 6 bolt engine into a 2g. It connects the 6 bolt style CAS to your wiring harness. Please search before posting and/or provide more information in your post. You will get a lot of flack for this.
I agree. A leak-down test is more specific and will yield better results in diagnosing the issue. However, the OP mentioned the white smoke out the exhaust (as in the title too), which according to your article (excellent write up btw!) is indicative of headgasket failure between cylinders...
Good information agentorange313! I'd add rep points if I could...Anyway, as mentioned above, white smoke is indicative of coolant leaking into the engine. My opinion, just do a compression test. It takes maybe 20 minutes and will tell you if your HG is toast. Low compression in adjacent...
RRE has a good wealth of information on clutch adjustment and pedal pressure. Go here: RRE's Clutch And Flywheel Tech Info and go all the way to the bottom for fork alignment. Specifically this picture:Check the master cylinder fluid level. If it is leaking you will see the levels drop...
