Another guy that's a friend friend of mine said it drives fine. The only time it messed up is when he's racing it at the track. He also said that he didn't think it happened till he welded his diff
I have'nt posted in a while but i'm looking at a 98 gsx and the guy tells me after 3 or 4 hard passes the tranny gets hot and sometimes It will pop out of first gear. It's a stock tranny with welded diff and he's running 75/90 gear oil in it. I really want to believe it does'nt need a full...
I was leaving my friends house today and my car studdered a few times. I
wasnt sure what was going on, then I pulled up to a stop sign and
pushed the clutch and it felt like it melted when I pushed it in. The car died so I got
out and saw a little smoke from under the hood. I raised the...
I built my awd spyder about 2 years ago and the gas gauge has never worked right. When its full, it reads about 3/4 of a tank but from there on it works normal. I dont let it bother me. I fill it up and wait for the light to come on and fill it up again.
I honestly think I leaned it out too much and I blame it all on me. I love the 2.4 dohc. I ran a stock one for about 2 1/2 years and had no trouble. I am only running a 20g on it so you can imagine how fast it spools and how that is :thumb:
Well, I got the motor out last night and tore it down today. It looks like #4 and #2 are shot. The good thing is the cylinder walls have very minor scratches that will hone out. I am going to hone the cylinders and put a new piston in 2 and 4, replace every gasket on it and put it back in. I...
I was afraid of that, but hey thats part of the game, right? I guess It'll be down for a little while. Thanks for the help and I may have a few questions.
I did the leakdown before it blew to make sure it was good and broken in. I did a compression test after I blew it up. I tried a leakdown but really could not make a conclusion from it.
No, i'm sorry. I have weisco's and scat rods. Crower 64414 cams and upgraded valve springs. The pistons were ceramic coated on the sides and on the top.
Well I took it out to the track Friday and blew the motor on my car. It 750 miles on it and I had performed a leakdown and it showed totally sealed on all 4.I got about half track and heard a loud exhaust noise come out from under the hood (like an open header or something) then the car shut...
Yeah, I think I can figure it out from that, thanksAbout the wastegate, does anyone have a clue? Could my wastegate be going bad or is the spring bad or what? Thanks
Ok when I left work today, the first two times I boosted it did not flutter and then it did everytime after that till I got home. Please, I need help with this. This is a just broken in fully built 2.4 dohc with a 20g and cams. I was going to go to the track tomorrow night and see what it will...
Ok I found a boost leak on my wastegate so I too kit apart and put a new gasket there. When I put it back together I pointed the vaccum nipple the wrong way and I didnt have time to fix it right then. When I drove it,I noticede it flutterd at full boost. I could tell it was the wastegate cause I...
Well my only tuning is a Keydiver chip and gm maft set to 450's like I was told. I wanted a good safe tune that I didnt ever have to mess with. I may be able to send the chip back and get some timing taken out on the lower end.
I'm not getting rid of these cams. If it is the cams causing this then thats fine, I can deal with it. I just dont want it to be something wrong with my car or something else.I have thought about adjusting the cam gears and doing it like you said moving it a little and checking for valve...
Well, ive got them where they are half decent and it runs great as long as I give it gas.My new problem is that when I am cruising down the road say 40 in 4th gear and I try to stay at that one speed the car jerks really bad. I have a brand new o2 sensor, brand new tps, did a smoke vaccum...
just got my 2.4 running on 64414's and I cant hardly get it to idle at all. The vacuum jumps around like crazy and never passes 10 in. Sometimes it wants to dye and other times it want to do a 1000rpm lope and others it wants to rev like 1200-1500. Where would be a good place to start? Then...
I did exactly what you said and cut a rectangle in the side of the "frame" then welded it back up. I just looked through my awd swap pics and could not find a pic but thats what I did and I havent had any problems. Mine has been done for about a year and 8 months and I did mine on a budget with...
I am going to be running a 7-bolt oil filter housing with ports for
an external oil cooler. I have a picture here..
http://www.4g64.com/gallery/album35/mopar_162Now my question is which allen plug do I run the turbo feed line and
which do I run the oil pressure sender off of. It has a...
I researched this ALOT when I started to build a motor for my car and a only came up with dead ends. I also do not have the money to "do whatever it takes" so I just built a 2.4 for my car. This is my first and hopefully my last. My started out non-turbo so it had the 2.4 to begin with and I...
I dont have mine going just yet but have friends that have 20,000 or so on them running 20ish psi on a 50 trim. Most are running eagle or scat rods with weisco pistonsThe 7-bolt is bolt in, no wiring differences and no 6-bolt swap crap. All you have to do is plug the drain holes on the top...
Yeah, i'm looking for a quick spooling, fast street car that I can get into the 12's.On a worse note, I was torquing my head down tonight for the last time and I pulled the threads out of one hole on my block. I am going to try to get a helicoil (sp?) and get that done tomorrow. I could not...
Just an update. I filled the piston dome up with modeling clay on #1, bolted the head down, put the timing belt on and spun it over. The valves did not make a mark in the clay at all :thumb:
FWIW I have the Crower 64414's and Crower told me to just drop them in straight up. I talked to some people on here and they say to drop them in straight up and get them tuned on a dyno if I wanted to waste the money.
Thanks for the help guys, I just just sold the fp's to friend. Now all I have to worry about is the piston to valve clearance. I had to have my block decked a little so I guess we'll see what happens.
Yeah, I have already put the gears on the cams and put the cams in the head. I just wasnt sure if I could run them straight up on zero until I go through break in and get it to a dyno. Also, after putting the cams in the head and seeing how far the valves open I am sccared that there may not...
I actually called forced performance and they said to run the Crower's. Kind of ironic, huh.Did you have adjustable cam gears with your Crower's? I have adjustable cam gears but Crower said to just drop them in straight up. They said that I could not really degree the cams right with hla's...
Well, I have been building my motor for a while and picked up the Crower's for cheap and then I got the fp2's for money owed to me the other day. So, I now have both and was just wondering which would be the better of the 2.THanks
I am trying to get my motor together right now and am in a pickle. I bought Crower 64414 cams a while back to go in my motor. I put them in the head today and WOW!Anyways, now I have come upon another set of cams and cant decide which ones to use. I believe they are fp2's, they have these...
I'm not real familiar with the n/t Eclipses but I have a friend that is having problems and thought I would come here for help. He swapped in a 420a long block that he bought off another guy and it will not start. As far as I can tell, there is a yellow wire that goes to the crank sensor, cam...
It makes a little bigger hole, but it worked fine for me. I cant remeber the exact price of the shield but it was around 160 bucks w/ my employee discount.
They make a drill bit made to drill out the spot welds, but I just found a drill bit the right size (cant remember what size, its been over a year ago). The gas tank shhield is MB888678.
Yeah, we're getting everything straightened out hopefully. Once I get the shipping label tomorrow I can ship these bearings back and get the right one's. I have been dealing with Tom Dahl and he has been great help. I understand it was just an honest mistake.
I got in touch with Slowboy today and come to find out, they sent me the wrong bearings. I have really not had a good experience with Slowboy this time. I have delt with them a few times before and everything was fine but this time has really killed me in getting my motor together  . They...
I just ordered engine pro bearings from Slowboy and when I opened the box they are Aluglide bearings. Acl makes them but they are aluminum silicone. I thought engine pro's were tri-metal. Are these the bearings that have taken the place of engine pro or what? Should I send them back? I thought...
As far as the cams and cam gears, I have done quite a bit of research. Personally, I am going to run Crower 64414's in my 2.4 which I heard is kinda like a 280. I read that I need to run a more aggressive cam in a 2.4.I called Crower and they said install them straight up with no cam gears...
Well, I ordered my parts today. I ended up getting weisco rings, manley valve springs, cometic head gasket, engine pro rod and main bearings, 3g lifters, and the main bearing cap aligment dowel kit that mach v sells.
I am building a 2.4 on a budget. I have an idea of the direction and have some parts and have been saving. I am about to order the bearings, rings, and valve springs. I have a few questions. What kind of ring end gaps am I looking for? Its gonna be a Daily driver on a 20g and 20 psi.I am...
