Update. Thanks to Steve it's working. He mentioned the SAFC II settings and although I haven't changed that setting in years it somehow wasn't on Karmen. Does anyone know how it could have switched all of a sudden like that on its own? Could a power surge or blip do that?At least I learned...
I was able to work on the car a little this afternoon. Switched my back probe from pin 1 to pin 2 and fired up the car. It is running a bit high at around 1500 rpm and is putting out around 2 volts which makes sense as most cars put out 1 volt at 750 rpm. So that shows the MAF is good and...

Thank u for that information. I thought the pin number 1 was the MAF signal back to the ECU. I didn't know it was a reset for the bov. Explains why only turbos have it. That is the one I was back probing. So is there a signal that goes back to the ECU to tell it flow or does it figure out...
What is the best way to test a MAF?I have a code 12 for the MAF on the logger. I am reading 0hz from the MAF on the datalogger. I have tested all wires on the car. Power wire, ground, and signal wires are all in spec. I have continuity on the wires to the ECU. I have tried swapping...
Had the resistors melt down in an ECU so I threw in one out of my donor car that has been in my dad's barn for about a decade. Opened it up and looks like the resistors have been replaced already so I threw it in. Having a hard time getting it to idle at all. Put about three hours or more...
Update: It works! Used nt flywheel, ACT 2800 nt clutch, put my BM differential insert in the front differential, welded the center diff., And made a custom inspection plate.
You are correct sir. I just have these parts laying around so if I fry them I wont be too heartbroken. Then I will just have to buy an awd flywheel and clutch. :rocks:The NT clutch I have is an ACT 2800 and has held very well so far. Well enough to strip all the teeth off my differential...
I think I will give it a shot. All the outside really does is provide a place for the starter to turn the engine so worse case I would strip a starter, but since I have found a few people running this set up already I should be good.
Nice! Looks like you're almost ready to do a VFAQ on this subject! ;-)Do you have pics of what you had to do with the gas tank area? What tank did you end up running? Is it possible to run the original FWD front suspension? I know the fwd had a member down the middle but is it possible to...
Sounds like the clutch and flywheel diameters are almost the same or only .5cm different between awd and nt fwd, but the turbo flywheels have the step that helps add clutch pressure. That is why I had to go with the ACT 2800 instead of the standard 2100 or so in order to get enough clutch...
Nice find! Looks like I am good to go with the setup!Just have to install my lsd insert into the tranny and weld the center diff.Anyone able to comment on if the front diffs. are the same between a fwd and an awd tranny? Also if I don't weld the center diff. will all the power go to the...
Thanks for the reply! I do have the ACT 2800 on my NT setup so that is the main reason I wanted to give it a shot so that didn't go to waste.Does anyone know if my LSD insert that I used in my fwd differential will work in this awd tranny?Sounds like all I need to do to run this tranny on...
Can you do it without welding the center diff. or do you have to weld the center diff. to get 50/50 power ratio between front and back outputs in order to drive the front wheels? If you weld the diff. will it drive both front wheels equally? Will this cause turning issues?
Did some research and found lots of good info but not exactly what I needed. To keep this short can a non-turbo flywheel and clutch be used with an AWD tranny? I know the fwd turbo flywheel is larger and I also know about the step heights on the turbo cars, but never saw anything on this...
Yes awd is amazing, but rwd is a lot of fun to play around with. Too bad most people here have such a stigma about it, but I suppose they are entitled to their own opinions.
Wow 10:1 is getting up there. I thought my NT block with 9:1 was high. Probably good idea that you went with the 8:1 rods. Similar to the 2gen ratio in the DSM world. It can be done with high compression but tuning is key.
Beautiful ride. Makes me want to turbo my VW Jetta I use as a winter car! One word of advice from someone who also turboed a non turbo car; keep very close eye on the tuning and start off with lower boost. Dont forget all the accompaning mods as well.As an aside what is the compression...
Whats the latest on the '08 calendar or did I just miss the link somewhere. I searched and all I found were the entries but no word on when it was comming out. Its not in the store either. Thanks
I let mine idle and smoke for like 15-20 minutes then said screw it Im driving it, it took a few miles or so but it finally burned off. Make sure you watch your fluid levels in case it is something more.
If its any consolation when my old turbo went out I replaced it with a new evo316g and it smoked like crazy for awhile at first untill all the excess oil and junk burned off. I thought the turbo was bad at first but it eventually burned off. Check everything out of course but this may be the...
Sensors are the same but the length of the wires that attach the sensor are not. The turbo ones have longer wires. When I turboed my car I had to extend my nt o2 sensor wiring. I have recently replaced it with a turbo 02 sensor. THeyre not too pricey and is allways a good thing to have new...
Unfortunatly I dont think thats my problem as I was running the stock fpr when I first installed the pump and I didnt have any problems. As soon as I installed the Aeromotive fpr I started having the startup issues. Not sure if the aero. fpr is letting to much fuel return to the tank after...
This is exactly how mine acts too. Its a real pain since mine isnt a daily driver now and only comes out in the evenings that I go somewhere alone. Car seats dont fit well in this car.
Same problem here right after I installed my Aeromotive fpr kit. It has to be it because its the only item I installed at that point in time. I did have the walbro installed before and never had the startup issues untill I later installed the Aero. fpr. Maybe the Aero. fpr has a design flaw...
I just received a very helpful pm from Pneumo I'll post it to help others researching this hacking subject.Quote: "I hacked the maf a little at a time to see how it changed things. When I had my maf hacked like the RRE page the car still drove nice and didn't hit fuelcut. When I hacked it...
Cool thanks for the advice. I will try tuning the car without turning up the fuel pressure. Maybe I'll get a chance for a rewire this winter. Also if hacking the mass some doesnt work I think I'll install a second gen mass this winter as well. I'll be sure to update this as I go along...
Good information thank you. Luckily it doesnt look like Im at a lack of fuel even up top according to my logs and safc graph. I havent had to add a ton of fuel up top. Right now my curves skirt pretty close around 0% or so. Im just hitting fuel cut when the maf count gets too high.I...
Luckily I havent had any problems with losing flow. The Walbro 255 flows rather well.Ive allready removed the lower honeycomb years ago.Im going to start to remove material now from the inside of the lower passageway like they did on the RRE websight write up. I'll take out a little...
Alright I found a nice write up on the RRE sight with pics, but it doesnt give any details as to how the vehicle performed at all. Anyone have anything to add? I think I may follow their lead and start taking material from the lower tube pathway little by little.
Yes I believe you are correct. Side note I also watch for knock and proper timing. The problem is its going to have to be a winter project. (My dad has a heated shop) as the summer here is almost over and my weekends are all booked up. Im thinking I'll go with the second gen maf but it'll...
If you tighten down the belt tensioner on the alternator itll pull too much on the pulley cocking it and wearing it out. This may be what they were talking about at NAPA. Anyway thats what happened to my old one as the rubber got weak. I replaced it with a lightweight Unorthodox Racing...
Alright fellow tuners I made the switch to race fuel (TORCO 110 Leaded) and was retuning the car last night. Now on pump I was running 60psi of fuel pressure in order to hide enough airflow from the computer using my S-AFC II to prevent fuel cut and had a nice tune at 15psi boost on my new...
This is some good information that I just recieved from Ballenger Motorsports."Question 1 - There are two popular sensors on the market, a bosch lsu 4.2 sensor (which comes with the autometer gauge) and an NTK sensor. The NTK sensor costs twice as much or more than the Bosch sensor but is...
Yes thank you.Did it come with any literature talking about leaded fuel lifespan? Also would it work with an autometer controler?Im searching around the net right now I'll post if anything pops up.Thanks.
Thanks for the input. Side note: were almost neighbors! Reletively speaking (G.R. & Holland)Anyway I would like to know more about the NTK sensor as in one of its advertisements it was described as being able to widthstand heat and lead, but doesnt say how much or how long.I am also...
Hey thanks for adding that. I think thats the only wideband we've come across so far that can handle lead and heat. FJO wideband is the name of the sensor right and NTK is the manufacterer correct? What controller do you use? What fuel are you using? What is your opinion on this product...
Thanks for adding the reference. As an update everything is in the car and works well. Helped stiffen the suspension even more. Worth the effort. One tip to mention is that to get them out the best way is to drill a bunch of holes in the rubber then they just pop out with a screw driver.
Thanks for the reply. Is the AEM EUGO what your running? How do you like it? 10000km is 6213mi's so that isn't too bad. What sensor are they using? Is it the Bosch?
