I had a thermostat failure earlier this summer driving over Vail Pass, The check engine light didn't come on till after the coolant was boiling and pushing out of the overflow tank. I removed the thermostat on the side of the road and found mine had failed in the closed position, I always...
I've beat the $$$$ out of the Hankook V12's, they are a very nice, very gripy 280AA tire for the money. I like them as much my last set of falken 615's that are $185 a tire. I drive mostly mountain Pass's and tight canyons roads, Tread ware is pretty good too.
I walk away from mine for 5 years, I recently got the car running again with a nice JDM motor and have really enjoyed driving it. Boost and 30 mpg is pretty awesome after driving two 1 ton pickups for the last 4 years.
I was reading through the newer SA Design 4g63t how to build book from amazon, there's a pretty good read on how worn crank bearings can cause low oil pressure. Robert Bowen explains how oil can escape from the journal bearings faster (when worn) then the oil pump can feed them. Might be worth a...
Did you use a new oil pump, OEM or something else? Did you prime the motor before installing the T belt and have good pressure then?I'd go start the car and look into the Oil cap, You'll see oil coming out of the lifters. Rev it up a bit and oil should come flying out of the cap hole.
I wouldn't trust the stock sender or gauge for that matter Steve, Mine only moves 1/3 of the sweep in the dash and my Greddy gauge reads 7 bar on cold start or WOT.
Toluene is to expensive to use these days, I'm even a Painting contractor and spend a ton of cash with Sherwin Williams over the last 13 years. For the little bit of octane you get from adding Toluene to 91 octane Pump, I'm back to buying AV gas from the Airport. Having 100 octane with a...
I kept my Balance shafts, After years of fighting oil leaks and porting this and porting that to keep the oil pressure under 100+ psi, I'm done with that BS. Buying Kevlar belts and changing them every year has keep my motors alive and leak free.
A RHD Type R imported from Another country is Lame? wow you wrx must be super sweet!I have to admit, most of these cars are alot nice then 75% of the DSM's I see in Colorado :ohdamn:
It's kinda funny, I just got my DSM running again because of gas prices. I have two 1 ton trucks for my business and the GST has been getting 30+ mpg with a stock JDM motor.
The cam gears can stay attached to the cams, there is no need to remove the cam gears to remove the cams from the head. Just keep track of the bearing caps, make sure you mark them exactly where they go and re install them in that order.
Timing a 4g is pretty easy, especially if you have the Jay racing timing tool kit. You can't just slide the belt off the cam gears, the reason why is because our motors have a hydraulic tensioner that keep the belt tight.Ask your self this, "is it worth half assing this simple job" to...
I never was able to find a way to lower oil pressure? I've done everything you listed and have always fought oil leaks. But what do you really expect? My last motor with out balance shafts had over 100 psi of oil pressure during cold start :ohdamn:After 4 years of looking at my car on jack...
I built my own, you can buy J bend piping for cheap and the flanges are not much more expensive. If you can't weld? just mark the piping on the flange and bring it to a welder. I had less than $45 bucks into mine, before adding a WG flange.
Meeting in Fort Collins kinda blows these days!I lived there for 11 years and watched the police get worse every year, Unless you are talking about day time during business hours? We well be chased out of everywhere! Yes just for hanging out and talking!I would be down for a midnight...
It's a big turbo! I had a 60-1 HIFI (T3 .63 AR) on mine 4 years ago, it made good power but was all above 4K rpms. A straight 60-1 T4 would probably be my choice of the two!
I would use the gasket dry for the front cover! I've used both Gasket maker and Copper spray trying to stop leaks. If the block is straight the oil pump cover will seal with out any ads. You need to fill the oil pump gears with something! Assembly lube, oil or Vaseline! doesn't really matter...
A buddie of mine in Jupiter is having a hard time finding E85 in the county, he's having to drive about 45 minutes north to get fuel. It's kinda of a PITA but worth it! He made 80 WHP switching to E85 on ### trix dyno.
Did you use Teflon tape or past on your timing belt tensioner bolts? The bolts run threw the front cover into the block, I've had them leak on me before! NAPA also sells a dye you can add to your oil, which is illuminated with a black light.[Do not use toilet repair materials on an automotive...
Even with the flapper door opened up, you will still see 6-9 psi on a 16G. It just go's to show you how restrictive the 16G exhaust housing and Internal WG setup is. The only way your going to get rock solid boost control is going to an external WG, Why fool around with another exhaust housing...
What day are you going to dyno? I'm an old friend of Brent's Paul's and Dan's It's been a while since I've been up to the shop, I did see your car last year, looks damn good.
What's high HP? Most 500+ hp DSM are not reliable enough to be a Daily drivers, I do think it's a good idea! Anything metal to metal, just over kill for a mildly tuned street car.
