It's been a while since I updated this but I've been busy. This thing still has as a small chance of making it to the Shootout, it just needs a passenger axle.
So the engine bay is finished. At least until we take it back apart later on down the road. We decided to paint it a semi-gloss black and clear it. Finished it up today. Heres some pics:And no. I did not paint over the VIN plate. It is masked off :)I painted the underside of the hood too...
Well I got some more clean up done in the engine bay today. Pulled the rack and sway bar too. I think I'm done cleaning the engine bay finally. I am going to go over it with a scuff pad and some primer maybe this weekend. We agreed on just painting the bay black. It will help whats under the...
Hi all, My friends and I found a good deal on a Mirage turbo that we just couldn't pass up. It has some fire damage but nothing too serious, just some wires, a fender, and a hood. I've got a lot to learn about these things, like getting the dash out lol. There must be some hidden bolts...
Well about a month ago the car got backed into and after insurance looked at it they decided to total it out. It already had a salvage title so I was just going to find another shell. I happened to find one and it looked pretty good from the pictures I saw. Well I gear up and drive 361 miles to...
It's not too bad looking. The core support is bent though. On the bright side I may try to get a CF hood so if anyone happens to know where to find a carbon fiber 90-91 hood please let me know.
Well when I try to tighten the nut on the compressor wheel I can tighten it with my fingers and it will not spin. Just looking for any insight to fix this. This is an H1c by the way.
So I check my mail and I'm sorting through the crap when I see that I get a recall for my 19 year old Talon. WTF Its for the seat belt buckles haha. So who knows maybe I'll get some shiny red release buttons instead of my faded ass orange ones. Did anyone else get this?
Well, I noticed a whining sound going down the road one day. I did some investigating, checked the fluid in the transfer case and rear diff. They were fine. For some reason I automatically ruled out the transmission. I drove around town a bit and the whining never got worse, trans still shifts...
It's made of rubber. Just wondering whether I need it for this one or not. Someone told me no, but I want to get a second opinion. One more thing, what are some problems a bad valve cover gasket can cause, besides oil leaking?
We're going to have a cookout for all DSM'ers June 27th and the 28th. We're thinking just hanging out drinking and telling stories about what else, DSMs. Also try to get a little cruise before everyone has to leave or maybe cruising Friday night. Whoever wants to come just post up. We're hoping...
Ok, I've got a 90 Talon that I'm building and it has a working factory alarm. Now, I plan on running AEM EMS but what I need to know is will my factory alarm still function with a stand alone system? Anyone with any experience I would greatly appreciate it.
Here is my 88 Chrysler Conquest. It has a clean title and supposedly only needs a turbo, which there is one in the floor of it. It has 117,000 on the clock.
This article explains how to turn your factory 2g A/C Fan into a "Slim Line" cooling fan. There is no wiring needed. It's "plug and play". The fan has been installed and driven daily for months now with no increase in temp. The only tools you'll need are some tin snips and pliers.1. With...

Well I recently started a build on my 90 Tsi. It was originally just going to be a motor build, big turbo blah blah blah. Well I decided to pretty much attempt a restoration since I have a place to keep it. I plan on having the car being street-able with full interior and moderate weight...
I'm in the process of building my head with BC 280's. I put the exhaust side together the other night and noticed that all eight valves never close at the same time. I thought that no matter what the cam they we're all supposed to close at the same time at some point. I took a couple of pictures...
Well in this build my goal is about 650-700 hp. I was wanting to get some opinions on which main bolt/stud to in with. Can i run the kiggly racing block girdle with stock mains? I've already got the arp's but i've heard a couple things thats got me second guessing. Thanks, Adam
This game has been taking up a lot of my time but it's so much fun. The things you end up building are pretty awesome. I've made it up to level 12 so far.Fantastic Contraption: A fun online physics puzzle game
Does anyone know how to remove a broken bolt? For example, from a automatic transmission pan?:o Because I sorta overtorqued a bolt. The fliter kits directions said 12 ft lbs. But the thing broke.

Well I bought a set of Crower SS valves and fererra guides. Had the guides installed. When I went to put the head together the valves would not fit. Is this normal? Am I supposed to have to bore these guides? This is my first build and I'm just trying to get everything right.
Ok, bought this car and put a ton of work into it. It seems to be close to the timing side. Before you watch the vid heres what Ive done to attempt to cure the noise.---New rod bearings, new timing belt pulleys, eliminated balance shafts, and the replaced lifters. I cannot get rid of this...
I'm in school taking automotive. Right now I'm in a upper engine and design. I've spent money on aftermarket parts like stiffer springs, cams, ss valves etc. What I was wanting to know is if it would be bad to put the head together then let it sit? It would be sitting for at least 4 months maybe...
Well I picked up a new DSM today. Its a 91 TSi AWD 5 speed. Ended up paying 800 bucks for it. Got in in a town called Darwin, Ohio, about 40 minutes away from me. It's not running and has been sitting for 3 yrs. The people I picked it up from say its the CAS, but we'll see. Anyway, enough...
So this will be my fourth shootout, and I'm sad to say I've only had the joy of driving my DSM to the shootout once. And when I did I wrecked it on the way up there. So who else is coming but not driving their DSM because it's broke?
Ok, this might be a little long but I've been stuck with this problem for too long. What Happened: Me and a friend of mine were trying to get my car started. We had a palm with MMCD hooked up to it and we were kicking the fuel pump on with it. The palm apparently froze up and we ended up...
Ok, heres the deal. My friend and I were working on my car. We had a logger plugged in kicking the fuel pump on and maybe pushed the button too many times, the relay kept kicking on and off . Before the car would crank over like normal and everything worked. Then for no reason the door ajar...
So, heres my dilemma. My 6 bolt went the way of the dodo, and I happened to have a 1g 7 bolt laying around. Everything went fine, it's all installed. I reused my 6 bolt head fyi. It won't start It's getting fuel because I can see it pooling up on the pistons, it's getting spark through the...
My mom has a this calendar you see below. It has little wooden pieces you put in it for the holidays each month. Below you'll see December. Me and a friend decided to make a couple for August, for the shootout. With the idea from my friend I went to work. Please don't be to judgmental because...
When I tried to remove my transfer case Wednesday the shaft was sliding out of the transmission and was stuck in the transfer case. After trying for about a half hour then waking up after I fell asleep under the car I gave up. Now I finally got it out but what causes that shaft to slide in and...
So, my car has been down for more than two months because of this noise. no one can seem to help me. Now, I have already taken the timing cover off and ran it like that. It still makes the noise. I checked and replaced the tensioner pulley and checked the idler pulley. I am completley out of...
I was looking into piercings and I've always liked this one. Just wondering if anyone on here has it done. Kind of curious as too what kind of care it needs, what it feels like being done, and what is a good gauge size? Anyway, thanks for any info. BTW thats this for anyone who doesnt know.
Yes, yes, I looked. After page 17 of 1st gens i got tired. I'm looking for pictures of 1st gens 90-91 only with aftermarket mufflers. I have a 3 inch exhaust with a short glass pack and am looking to replace it. Just trying to find something good looking.
After a hard run to 50mph my car started bucking like crazy and won't accelerate. Drove it home about 4 miles and popped the hood. All kinds of smoke from around the intake manifold area. Looked like it was coming from underneath my manifold. Any help is appreciated. On a side note, car has brand...
Well after wanting one for about 3 years I finally got what I wanted. It's a 90 TSi AWD 5 speed. Has 124,xxx miles on it. Didn't run when I got it. Got a computer from a junkyard and it runs and shifts great. No mechanical problems...yet. Just needs brakes and I think an axle. My gallery
Looking for some pics of cartoony looking turbos. I saw a pic a while back that had flames coming out of it. I was kinda looking for something along those lines to help finish off my tattoo.
