Shucks. Would have pulled the trigger earlier but primary focus was getting the car running during the limited periods that I was in the US.Any idea if the piping kits work with any other FMICs?Not a problem, thanks for letting me know.
Sad to see another vendor stepping away from DSMs...I was looking to purchase an RTM FMIC for a 2g. Looks like you no longer have this (just the install kit)? Also do you need to log in/register to use the discount code?
Thanks for the feedback. I was curious if you were looking for Evo bars with less, or more, stiffness than what is available for the DSM (which I believe is just OEM or RM?).I'm on OEM suspension at the moment with RM sway bars front and rear, and the car is quite tail-happy; I've contemplated...
Ahhhhhhh! Of course. That hole was driving me nuts - I kept thinking that there had to be something on that side of the block, saw that hole, and thought it would make sense that something would pull that in...but on the other side of that hole (trans) you end up way out next to the axle. I...
Had to pull my trans out to figure out where I was leaking oil from (oil galley plug next to freeze plug) and why my clutch wasn't disengaging (clutch disc got stuck to Fidanza flywheel because I only moved the car about 10-feet before I found the oil leak, and thus didn't burn off the green...
The quotes from Kurt's wife are heart-wrenching. I agree w/ the sentiment above - this guy needs the full 22-years.A lesson to be learned here from Kurt's wife, "“I don’t consider Curt’s death to be an accident,” she said. “It makes me sick no one in his life took the keys or the truck."...
Started up my new engine to find a massive oil leak, which after pulling my trans I traced back to the oil galley plug at the back of the block.I did some research and found this thread highlighting what a massive pain it can be to get this sealed properly.I've purchased a new plug but want...
Thanks Randman - I really appreciate the info. However I've had a horrible experience with STM so they've permanently lost my business. I'll need to look elsewhere.
Yeah, I've had this car nearly 20-years and it's mostly sat for the last decade, but now that I'm now getting back into it, I'm finding A LOT of stuff is no longer available.Good downpipes is one of them. The non-SS flex pipe on my existing downpipe is on its way out, and since my downpipe was...
Anyone ever given anything like this a go? I need to pull my car from the rear to get it off the lawn where it's been sitting for the last few years. Last time I tried using the rear sway bar but ended up bending it.
Interested if anyone has run the Miata chassis rails? Every time I'm under my car I cringe at my rails and how beat up they are from the dumb crap I did as a kid. I road-race a Miata and a lot of the guys use those rails with good results. Whenever I see them on a Miata I think I have to see if...
Wow. This was in my DSMTuners "New posts from the DSM community" E-mail - I saw it and nearly fell out of my chair. What an absolute tragedy. I've never dealt with Curt personally but was looking to send my spare 7-bolt head to him last year, just ran out of time. His name has been a constant in...
Correct. When I went back out and looked at it I noticed that it was just the two bottom studs that were larger.Got my Big-Sert kit, drill and tap guides and some warm weather forcast so I'll be giving this a go over the next couple days. Will update this thread with how things went.
Actually, I don't think that's going to work as the hole looks like it was drilled too large for the helicoil.I'm thinking I'm going to get Big-Sert #5812 kit as another user outlined here:https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/exhaust-stud-repair-big-sert-tips.522654/
So the head was helicoiled before, and just now while torquing the studs (to only 26 ft-lbs!) one failed and pulled out of the head clean with the head threads.I think on the 7-bolts these are M10? Can I just drill/tap to that?
OK, I got it in. For anyone stuck in the same situation that I was, this is what worked for me on the passenger side:Almost had to unbolt the tie-rod end from the knuckle, but with the wheel turned full lock and enough muscle I was able to get it up and around the subframe. Thanks again Gary.
That is very nice, but I'm already heavily invested in my OG Apexi EL setup that I committed to when I bought installed my first boost gauge 17 years ago, that was chosen over everything else available because I thought it looked cool (and I could get it in PSI). Can't justify scrapping and...
I see the pic but I don't see any fuel/pressure sensor setup. Of the 4 views 3 are probably me going back to the pic to make sure I didn't miss anything. ;)In road racing with an AWD car, I'm at WOT a lot. It is dedinitely course dependent, but I'd say on a 60-sec lap I'm at WOT for maybe 20%...
Has anyone confirmed the above? I'm looking to buy a DSS driveshaft for my 2g. There is a 1G one available 20-min away and a 2g one that's a 5hr drive away. Would be great if the closer 1g one was a better fit than the 2g one, but I don't want to buy it, build it, and then find out it doesn't...
Yes, running an oil cooler.Yes definitely running an oil pressure gauge - particularly as my last two engines went due to oil pressure issues. Actually I only have the spare temperature gauge because the guy I bought the oil pressure gauge from threw the matching gauge in for free.I've had...
Can't see it in your pic. Did you upload the right picture?I understand the stock oil pressure sending unit is fairly worthless. However, as it looked like I needed a fitting at the OFH anyway to get from BSPT to a remote oil pressure sending unit kit (and then back to BSPT for my aftermarket...
I'm building a 2g GSX road race car and I've got a place to monitor oil (Moroso pan) and water (thermostat housing) temps, but only one aftermarket temp gauge at the moment. Which would you monitor with an aftermaket gauge/sensor - oil or water?Lots of varying opinions on the internet. Most...
I've swapped a long-block 6-bolt into my 2g years ago. The 6-bolt that I got had a broken sensor in the thermostat housing. I remember researching this prior and confirming it wasn't needed for my 2g, so I left it as-is.I'm now looking to install an aftermarket coolant gauge in my car, and...
Thank you for the pics. I pieced together this option but still ended up with more fittings than I wanted due to having to go from BSPT to AN and then back to BSPT. Also on my 90 OFH my oil-feed line faces straight down and towards the front of the car. I wasn't comfortable with a tee and...
I'm feeding my turbo (Bastard 20g) from that spot, so I would have to use a tee there as well.Do you recall where you got this bulky adapter?I found the below at McMaster and was considering using this with the JNZ or Extreme PSI kits. Is this similar to one of the "poor quality" fittings...
My last two engines went due to oil pressure issues (bad oil pump and then a failed oil cooler line), so I'm not even cranking my new engine over until I get a proper gauge in place. From what I've read I understand that installing a remote mount oil pressure sending unit kit is essential as...
Sorry...took all these before; forgot to attach! As noted the O2 housing gasket is smaller than the turbo hot-side outlet, so obviously can't see the difference with the gasket layed over the turbo. It's a very small difference (~1/16" lip around the entire outside, though as noted thicker at...
I'm installing a JusMX billet bastard 20g in place of the old and trusty ported 14B that I've had on the car for the past ~16 years/20,000 miles. ROFL The housings is off a knockoff Chinese 16G that had everything thrown away except the compressor cover (which has been machined), turbine...
I don't trust myself with fire, especially as much of the bottom of the car is still coated with oil from the cause of the engine failure in the first place (corroded oil-cooler line cracking/splitting off OFH at full song, which then shot a hard stream of oil out the side of the engine). And...
OK, I got the driver side in...but I cheated a bit. I was installing a Moroso 6-bolt pan anyway, so when I had the OEM pan off I was able to squeeze the axle between the subframe and oil-pickup. No cheats for the passenger side, however - and the axle needs to come out waaayy further to swing...
You want to install the vents at an area in the hood where there is the greatest differentiation between underhood and overhood pressures, as this will promote the best movement of air flow through/out of the vent. The best way to do it would be to get yourself a Magnehelic gauge and do some...
My concern as well. I'm thinking if I pull the axle I won't be able to pull the knuckle out/rotate it back enough to get both splines in.Shick mounting?
Ok, just swapped a new longblock into my car. When I was pulling the motor/trans I was able to get the axles out of the way just by disconneting knuckle from the UCA and then pulling outwards.Unfortunately in my rush to get the motor/trans back in I left the axles hanging under the subframe...
Thanks very much for that. Lots of good info there. In the interim I also came across this:
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/clutchandflywheeltech.htmTo be honest, a lot more to the clutch than I originally thought. Done many clutch jobs before but on all of my other cars I've used PPs and...
It was a good 6 and a half years ago when I installed the clutch, but I don't recall having to "shim" anything. As the flywheel and clutch were both brand new I assumed that the step would be to spec as installed. What do you mean by an extension rod?
Have not, though I think that would only effect engagement/dis-engagement and don't understand how that could case uneven wear across the surface of the clutch disk and/or flywheel?
As said to motomattx above, it's the uneven wear on the flywheel side that concerns me. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but if I had brake rotors that looked like that I'd be thinking there was something very wrong.I'll check with the straight-edge. I've also E-mailed South Bend and will...
I never felt it slip, athough the car was only running a maxed-out ported 14B (33lb/min). I was actually least concerned about the pressure plate as that side of the clutch disk looks to have worn pretty evenly with a slight gradiant in color change from the inside out. It's the flywheel side...
Engine out. Both heads at a local machine shope at the moment. Looks like I'll be going with the 6-bolt head due to my time constraints. Have a cyclone intake manifold on the way as well.:thumb:
