For tuning, look up ceddymods. I helped test it when he was working on it, and it's really good (except for the fact that he seems to have quit working on it). It's similar to using the Evo 8 ECU. I have swapped back and forth between the 98-99 DSM ECU and the Evo 8 ECU, as the plugins are the...
Are you sure it's slipping and not just in limp-mode, which would mean taking off in 3rd gear? I guess that wouldn't explain reverse, but my car often doesn't back up (or go forward) right away if going right from park to reverse or forward -- if I leave it in neutral for a couple seconds first...
I don't see why you'd need anything more than to make an ECU plugin adapter harness, and wire up the ODBII plug. Leave your harness alone.I would recommend just using an Evo 8 ECU instead, as the mods for that ECU are more abundant. Wiring is the same as a 2G other than swapping 4 wires...
In what way is this 'working'? I would like to know what that means exactly.I can work on cars, but I can't build a house. Well I supposed I COULD attempt one, and then try to live in it until it falls on my head. This should be your next improvement to this car...
If they don't specifically say who made the J-pipe, I don't see why it would be so terrible if it is the same as one you might find on eBay. Check the flatness of the flange (and sand if necessary), drill the holes to the next size, and put it on!Plenty of people buy the cheapo junk ebay...
Yes, do NOT use regular anti-seize, you have to use the high temp stuff or it acts more like glue than anti-seize.I have longer bolts with nuts holding my 16G on because of messed up the threads in the turbine housing, which I actually like other than it's a bit of a hassle holding the nuts...
Although Evoscan supposedly does have support for flashing, most people use ECUFlash for flashing and Evoscan only for displaying and logging data. I haven't heard of anyone releasing mods for the 98/99 DSM ECU that supports gear-based boost control. The tephra mod for Evo 8 ECU's have this...
Basically, I can never again take my o2 housing off, which sucks since I don't really like the o2 housing I'm using. Also, even the bolts that hold the turbo to the housing all break off or strip.
I would recommend putting studs in every bolt hole of the BEP housing. Every hole on mine, the threads are either gone, or a bolt is snapped off/sized in. I've never seen anything like it before. Even if I liked the setup otherwise, I wouldn't recommend the POS housing to anyone. Yes, I...
Every dirttrack I've heard of tests compression ratio, not PSI. First they do a displacement test, and then when they know the displacement, they use another tester that shows the compression ratio (usually reads about .5 lower than the real ratio).Around here the FWD 4-cyl class is called...
A better WGA can do wonders for holding boost, as long as you have any other issues sorted out first and have the supporting mods for more boost.I run a Holset actuator on my 16G and can hold between 28-30psi all the way up. It runs around 20psi on wastegate pressure.
1. Since probably none of us on this page know our BSFC, your math will be flawed using it. If you have not had your engine on an engine dyno and had fuel flow #s, you don't know BSFC and are just guessing and estimating. I converted my airflow & afr's to fuel flow with simple math and it came...
stock regulator, never wasted my time or money on anything but stock regulators on any of my DSM's. Mine likes mid 12's for AFR's (gas scale obviously).
I was flowing a little more than 48 lbs/min on 850cc injectors, so I really don't see why they wouldn't be fine unless you are trying to run ultra-rich or something.
You don't need to cap anything on the turbo as you won't even have coolant going to the turbo at all (take both coolant lines off the turbo completely). You only need to block the line that would let coolant run out [of the engine]. It seems like you're over thinking things.I'm not quite...
You delete them by removing them and not running coolant through the turbo. Are you using a 1G water pipe and thermostat housing or 2G? (I much prefer the 1G setup, and use that even on my 7-bolt engine)
If you are using ceddymods, you need to use a ceddymods rom with the ceddymods definition. You can't use the stock one, as ceddy obviously never touched your stock rom.
Yet you're still here writing instead of reading. Start with something and learn. Going from 0 hp to 700 hp with nothing in between just doesn't make sense.
My XTD solid 6-puck was great even with 15 passes mostly right in a row on the 1/8 mile. I had 45+ passes on it when the hub broke off the clutch (plus everyday street driving). The clutch outlasted a couple transmissions. Other clutches haven't lasted past 1 oil change.I've now got an ACT...
With people having issue with too high of oil pressure and having to work to get it down, removing the squirters would probably make that issue worse. I don't see an advantage by not having oil spraying on the pistons cooling them.
I assume you are talking about the automatic transmission, but you're not clear on that. If you don't know how much drained out, you don't really know how much to add. It doesn't just drain out like the engine does. I put over 7 quarts in mine when I changed it, but I pulled the valve body...
Everyone's setup is going to like something a little different, so you need to experiment with what works for you and your car. If my car is even a tad rich it will not brake boost at all (or takes forever). I have to be like 12:1+ and run a good amount of timing. With an auto you need torque...
Is this stuff actually compatible with our transmissions (I'm going to guess NO)? Dexron 3 is not and you're supposed to use atf+4. Nothing will get me away from type F.
The MINIMUM oil pressure according to my service manual is like 10psi at idle, that doesn't mean that's what it should always be. Yes it's going to be higher when the oil is cold; yes it's going to be higher at higher rpms. Do you have balance shafts still? Has your oil filter housing been...
