Good lord it's turned into lord of the flys in here.I would have liked to have an educated discussion on the topic but I guess I was asking too much. Some of you have had good input but I have better things to do that read through all the 12 year old circle jerk and back patting.A...
But is that fluttering causing a problem? I don't doubt it's there but when it is you are off the gas. Have you noticed this happen while you are on the gas or seen a negative effect on pressure? But who added that BOV?
Was it the engineer who designed the car? Or maybe the engineer who...
Lol, I already told you. I'm here to play devils advocate and since everyone here seems pretty pro BOV that means me backing the other side of the argument. If everyone here were proud members of the no BOV club I would be playing the other side. If I wasn't supporting the other side we wouldn't...
Well then the same could be said for running a boost controller, crushing the stock BOV, or really changing any other part of your car.
More importantly unless you are one of those engineers, have talked to one of those engineers or were educated based off the science that they used you don't...
From your description this sounds like on throttle surge which is very bad and unrelated to the BOV. Is that the case?An anti surge housing really just moves the surge line to the left on the map so it's still quite possible to get surge with an anti surge housing it's just less likely.
Like I said, If I took the time I could find pages upon pages of dozens of people running no BOV and many of them at very high boost. I have also not yet heard of a failure that could be directly linked.
I have also made it clear that these are not my theories but I am looking for input from...
That might be easy enough on the drag track but it's not always the ideal option.I'm not afraid to say I played the role of the pessimist for a long time on the MR2 boards. I'm still not fully convinced either way but since most here seem to be pessimists I'll try to play devils advocate to...
It is a little bit different though.
If you vent your BOV the ECU is dumping fuel for air that has already passed past the AFM/MAF but is not going into the engine.Without a BOV if you let off the gas the volume of air is going the exact same place it would with a recirc BOV it's just...
This is very important with a fixed displacement supercharger since the pressures can get much higher. I have never heard of anyone bending or breaking a throttle plate with a turbo setup. If you know of any easy to find links I would love to see them.I have presented these theories and...
I don't hang out on the DSM forums much these days.
I do still come here from time to time due to the fact that there are a lot of people who know a lot about running boost and making power.
My Baby for the last 10 years has been a MK1 MR2 which is now running a blacktop 4AGE at 11:1...
It's the other way around. You make more power when backpressure is decreased.
Backpressure makes the engine work harder to evacuate exhaust gasses. It also makes scavenging during valve overlap less efficient.
When the exhaust valve and intake valve are both open the low pressure wave from...
This is somewhat true but you still have plenty of variation. For example, I see about 1:1 at 3500 RPM but over 2:1 at 7800 RPM. If I had a big turbo that maxed at 1:1 then it's quite likely in the lower RPM there would be more boost than PTBP. If you have too much overlap this could blow air...
I'm not really sure what you mean by this. Can you explain a little more?
Or maybe we are just looking at it backward from each other. Are you talking 2 or 3 times more pressure on the compressor side? That would be pretty impressive.
The less PTBP the better and the more power each PSI boost...
Just found this thread again.
In case anyone cares I thought I'd post what I found on my DSM T25.
This is on a 20 valve 1.6 liter 4AGE running 11:1 compression. I boost between 6 and 7 PSI. I also live around 6000 feet. Not sure if that would have much influence or not.
At highway speeds I...
Wow I'm surprised there hasn't been more activity on this.My pyrometer is tapped into the turbine inlet flange with 1/8 NPT so it would be pretty easy to find out what I get. It would be cool to compare the T25 to the 14B. I also wonder how hard it would be to find a cheap 7cm housing to...
So on the MR2boards a discussion on the effects of altitude on boosted power led to a discussion on pre turbine pressure. Since I am running a DSM T25 I was wondering if people had measured their pre turbine pressure. I know it's not apples to apples since I'm only running 1.6 liters but it...
Thanks guys. I'll start with the 14b and see how I like it. I have a T25 on it right now but still haven't hooked up the wastegate. Once I finish my water to air intercooler I'll be ready for boost but I know this turbo is on it's way out.
Yeah other than finding a healthy one. I haven't priced one out new but I'm assuming they aren't cheap. I was hoping for stainless since it sits right on top of the engine but I can ceramic coat it. Still kinda curious how something like the FP 7cm will perform compared to the stock 6cm.
Thanks. I wasn't terribly seriously considering the ebay housing but it was one of the few options I found. The FP housing is a little on the steep side but I would probably do it if it's my best option.I found the TMM1 and TMM2 housings on DTMs website and for what seems like a...
Haha yeah I get that much but I want to know how much it will effect spool.
It seems to me I wouldn't be pushing the limits of the 14b and I think a 16G would be barely waking up, if I'm not pushing the turbo that hard is there any gain, any loss and do they gains outweigh the losses?
Ok this is not for a DSM. The turbo will be going on a 1.6 liter 20 valve 4AGE blacktop.
I am currently running 11:1 compression so I don't plan on running a lot of boost for a while. I will probably rebuild the motor down the road with beefier pistons but I do plan on keeping the compression...
The origonal SC motor was 8.1:1 comp ratio and the SC made 8 psi.
Once I converted it to turbo I hit 10-12.
The ECU has a major design flaw where around 10 PSI it goes crazy lean under 3500 rpm otherwise I know I could have thrown a lot more boost at it.
I figure I will be walking a pretty...
Hey guys, been a while hehe.
Ok this isn't for a DSM but I need input on the setup I am building.Toyota MR2 supercharged converted to turbo. It is now going 20 valve blacktop which is 11:1 comp ratio.
Once I get it in I'll run with the WG disconnected till I'm confidant it's all dialed...
It's a 1.6 liter. I ground out the step on the mani side of the turbo and did a light gasket match on both sides. It's just spiking then dropping down to 11ish after a sec. I made my own piping out so right after the turbo it's 3" with a 2" wastegate pipe out into the exhaust no 02 housing...
I just put a T25 into my Mk1 MR2. I was hoping to start out around 10 psi then build up. Seems like I am getting 11 to 12 but spikes as high as 14 and this is a little higher than I was aiming for atm 12s ok but I'm not stoked on the 14 spikes.
This is with a new Autometer gauge plugged into...

You could run one of these with double gaskets and longer studs.
I wouldn't think it would be a problem but if your already short then maybe.
I remember those now too now that you mention it.
It would be worth looking into but I have a feeling restitution is too iffy for them to want to touch.
Let us know if it works if any one tries it though.
Wow that took a while. Good to hear they got the Ahole though. I wish they got the bastards that took my car.
That whole restitution thing really sucks.
They caught the guy that stole my girlfriends CRX a few years back. Unfortunately she won't see a dime untill he gets a job. He can't get a...
If i'm not mistaken I am assuming you would be pulling air in through the exhaust ports and out through the intake. The timing belt and tensioner would be backwards, oil pump like you said. I think it would be easier using a motor already designed to spin in the opposite direction.
So I recently got a MK1 MR2 and have started hanging out with the local MR2 guys, one of which is a cool toyota mechanic. This guy loves to do cool swaps like putting the 2.0 and 2.2 MK2 engines in MK1s and 3.0 and 3.4 V6s in MK2s. Naturally discussion has come up about making an AWD MR2...
On my 2G it goes from the coil pack to a power transistor, I don't know if the 1G is exactly the same but that may also be another potential culprit.
It could also be in the wiring. I had almost the exact same problem you are having only it was with my injectors. Sometimes they would work...
Yeah it was the CAS. After replacing it it ran great.
Is yours throwing a code? If so get it scanned and see what it says. Which two cylinders aren't firing? 1 & 4?
There's quite a few around here. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=52There's also posdsm.com and tunerdreams.com with a lot of local DSMers.
Yes it's a 2GA, the only gen to put it behind the cam gear. :toobad:You need to remove your timing belt side motor mount (make sure to support the motor), remove the top and middle timing belt cover. Align the the timing marks on the cams to TDC.
The alignment dowls on the cam gears...
So we got my 95 GSX running finally the other day but now it won't start. It turns out cylinders 1 and 4 aren't getting spark. My first thought is the CAS since I remember hearing if it goes out you loose two cylinders but every one told me "no it can't be your CAS so check every thing else"...
I didn't have to do a thing to my trunk space. The exhaust does tap the rear diff ocasionally but that's it. I didn't know tilted upward was the saught after look but mine does a bit.
I just reread this because it didn't make sence. Are you talking about running the motor front to back instead of left to right? I think you are. If so your nuckin futtz. The front end of the car would be 2 feet longer, 2/3 of the motor would be hanging in front of the front axles killing the...
BS
I made my own and it fit just fine. Some don't because they are lazy bastards. I like driving dirt so I am very concerned with ground clearance, if I had someone else do it and they said they were going under the axle I would kick them in the balls. When I did mine I tucked it up nice and...
After the cat. I don't think you could get it before anyway. I got a resonator for mine and though I never installed it I did spend some time trying to figure out where to put it. It's going to be a tight squeeze anywhere you put it but I seem to remember thinking the best place would be right...
I never had that problem rev matching the GSX. As he said it will be a little laggier due to the lower compression needing boost to maximize power but this shouldn't seriously effect reving it in nn neutral. Try tuning it up. Other than that it will just take you some time to get used to the...
It will help a lot if you can localize the leak a little. Follow the oil path as far as you can. If you can't find exactly where it's coming from then post as close as possible as you can to the source. It could be any number of things from any number of places. Try and get under there (jack it...
Ah man I miss the sushi buffet place up in fort collins. MMMMMM
$10 or something like that and you could eat all the sushi and chinees food you could fit in your pants.
