If its sputtering at 5k, it sounds like a miss-fire. Im assuming its sputtering when your under full boost? There are a lot of things that could cause a miss-fire if that is the case. I can't help more till I get more information
Sometimes when you have a gear or bearing like that and you cannot press or pull the gear off, it is possible to 'walk' the peice off the shaft a little bit if you use an air hammer. Just walk it off enough to get a puller under it. Its not a good idea if you don't know what to look for and its...
I hope he has the cookout again! I just got my car running after doing a new clutch and stuff so I wont race....But I did stay for the cookout lastyear! I didnt know anyone so it was a little weird but Ill try to stay again this year, maybe Ill see you there. Most of my friends don't have a...
The other guys have you on the right path....Im assuming you have fresh gas in there right? And also, what heat range plugs do you have? You might want to consider colder plugs to help reduce knock. And the only other thing I didn't see anyone mention is exhaust leaks. Make sure you...
And lastly, Napa sells Chilton repair manuals for 21 bucks, thats 21 bucks well spent, its a great reference and you need torque specs to do a lot of jobs. Good luck
You could look up through the block with a mirror and get a good idea of what is going on, If they did the BSE kit you should be able to see if they put the new bearing in right. Maybe take some pics and we could help that way but hard to get a pic of that spot I assume.
I feel the same way, the street disc is junk if your going to drag race, my street disc was good for one hard AWD launch, no joke.I just got the ACT MB1-XTG6 clutch kit (2600 pressure plate with 6puck sprung disc) in the mail today, i will try to give feedback soon but it will take alittle...
What about a complete South Bend setup? From my experience the ACT is OK, I ran an ACT 2600 with street disc and it was OK. I have to replace the clutch and pressure plate now but I think it was a decent clutch (I ran out of time when I did the ACT clutch the first time and I didn't get the...
Are you sure the oil you found isn't residual oil from doing the clutch? When you pull the CV shafts out of the transmission to change the clutch, they leak oil, you could be finding leftovers.
I cant find the data to back up my claims right now but from what I have heard, it is possible to gain power if you re-route the waste-gate dump into the exhaust. My bro is a big Honda guy and he said there were a few guys on Honda-tech that did a waste-gate re-route and they ran the dump along...
I agree. Im looking at my fork right now and its relativly perpendicular to the bellhousing. If my camera wasnt sitting in the bottom of my drain pan full of coolant I would take a picture and show you (don't ask, im freakn pissed right now).
I did the same exact thing, but I didnt use a pipe cutter. I shortened my shifter and eliminated the bushing on the shifter 'plate' that bolts to the chassis. I also installed the bronze bushings in the end of the shifter cables at the transmission. Over-all I am happy with the set-up. It is...
Whatever injectors you plan on buying, make sure you can easily get the correct o-rings and bushings to make them fit right, This may sound dumb but injector seals are very important and regular 'home depot' o-rings wont cut it. For example, if you get FIC injectors, about the only place to get...
For future reference; I have MIG welded several exhaust manifolds for EGT probes and several exhaust housings for adding external wastegate dumps and fixing cracks. All without a single problem after repeated use and several years of abuse. I used a standard Lincoln 'Pro-MIG 135' model with a...
Most of your questions were answered by Bogus, dsmx and gsx. For my Personal experience I have made a calculated 400whp on a 50trim turbo with ARP head studs and a factory mitsu 'graphite' gasket with out any problems. As for the rest of ## engine and transmission holding up, pray for the best...
I have Omni power coilovers and I can easily adjust in the range you described. Im assuming people with coilovers who talk about changing the dampners have cheap 'piggy-back' coilovers that fit on stock type dampners. Changing springs on coilovers is only done via springs from the coilover...
I dont have any personal experience but if I were you I would do a google search and search these forums more. Google is great because it will pick up post on other forums and sites that could still be helpfull. Also the AEM forums are great for stuff like this because the AEM tuning section...
Is it pegging lean when you let off the gas? If you have the decel fuel-cut anable it will shut off the fuel injectors when you let off the gas and the A/F gauge will go full lean. Its sounds like its going 'full' rich becuase it is pig rich. If you posted a log that showed this when it...
Also keep in mind there are many 'hols' that will work very similarly. Methanol, alcohol, ethanol, etc. I have been buying semi-cheap denatured alcohol and doing a 50/50 mix with distilled water. I previously used methanol and did back to back datalogs with the different 'hols' and didnt...
Since Phunny dug up this thread I will add my two cents. First off all, without seeing any numbers I cannot do any math. You could assume that a 100 shot on a V8 would be closer to a 200shot on a 4cyl car with half the engine displacment and half the fuel flow.Hooking up the fuel system...
Yes it installs similarly to how your 1gen maf is installed but it flows more air to reduse the restriction your worried about. I previously posted a link that shows you how to install the maf and what needs to be modified. Goodluck and follow up with what you decide to do so other people can...
Thats strange, Im assuming your leaving the throttle body attached to the UPIC pipe and pressurising the engine, Im suprised your even able to build pressure with that method. While im not completely sure how your doing you test, it is possible for compression from a running engine to push...
If you just want to bolt parts on and not worry about modifying piping, etc. Check out:
DEJON | PowerhouseThey have UICP that are ready to go for a MAFT setup, and all dejon stuff is great quality. Im a fabricator myself so buying somthing as simple as intercooler piping is something I...
I highly doubt it, it could draw more power but I assume the radio/head unit will output a fixed amount of current at the neccessary frequency to provide the proper sound. Im not an electrical engineer but I would bet the only noticable change would be a change in sound when compared to the...
So by narrowing the pin end does that mean simply grinding the piston pin down? or is that refering to the piston where the pin is kept in place with the clips?
Yea you can boil or really get some pressure cranked up in the cooling system and it will bubble and shoot all over the place and burn the crap out of you. Only do that if you know exactly what you are doing and use a couple rags to save yourself.A semi-safer method of doing that is...
Does it do this when the engine is warm? Another thing to consider is the fuel pump, it should have a check valve that keeps fuel at the fuel rail. Try to turn the key to the 'on' position without cranking the engine, do that a few times then try to crank it, if it fires right up its probley...
Yeah running on the ground side is safer than on the hot side thats for sure, thats why most transisters in modules control the ground side of things like fuel injectors....and hidding a switch like that is a great ant-theft device if you want something simple!
I would defanitly get a factory timing belt, and probley the hydraulic tensioner, I know you can get good cam seals at NAPA or a place like that, but a timing belt kit would be great too, with how many miles you have a timing belt kit, water pump and cam seals would be a really good idea. Just...
Have you checked for a vacuum leak and ran a boost pressure test to verify you dont have any leaks? And if you don't understand what Mr.popups is say about checking continuity with a multimeter, continuity is typically zero Ohms or close to zero, it simply means there is an electrical...
Quayzar is on the right path of what I was thinking. It could be somthing as simple as an air pocket in the cooling system. Whenever you drain the coolant and you re-fill the system you have to 'burp' the air out of the system. I have a special funnel that attaches to the thermostat housing...
That can wait untill you boost the engine. Honestly if you are only going to run 8psi, or mabey even 14psi, that engine build is a waste of money, you could do a good tune and run that boost on the factory engine if you are carefull. That will be a major build and it will get very expensive...
As knoch said, they seal vvery well and the safety envelope alone from a safe fuel system is worth it. Also, when you go to upgrade in the future it will be much easier to add things to the fuel system, as long as you pick the right AN fitting from the get-go.To answer your question, no it...
You can replace the cam seals without removing the camshafts. If you take the timing belt off and pull the cam gears you can (carefully!) remove the seals with a mechanics pick and carefully install the new cam seals with a hammer and a big socket or just use a drift (a punch) and slowly tap...
Ok so follow what other people are saying so you know for sure your car is running safely. Another thing you can do is look at the spark plugs, or have a mechanic pull a spark plug and see how it looks. Anytime you are unsure about somthing take a picture and post it on here and we will help...
I would agree on that too, and getting the real turbo eliminates a lot of guess work and makes calculating other factors much easier. And for the record, turbo lag is over-rated on almost all turbos in the 20g range. unitl you get into monster turbos that dont spool till 5000rpm, a little...
What about running polyurethane bushings in the engine mounts and calling it a day? Arent solid mounts mainly good for guys with serious horsepower or track only race cars that would break regular mounts? For my setup I have poly bushings in all the engine/trans mounts, solid mounts of the...
At your stage in the game, upgrading to a 2gen Maf would be the easiest thing to tune and use. People have made well over 400whp with a 2gen maf....Read more about this mod at the vfaq site....and for more user feedback, I ran low 12s on an unhacked 2gen maf and I could have ran faster...
I would mabey get a cat back exhaust, leave the factory manifold. And for more efficiency look for a cheap cold air intake. Other than that keep on doing what your doing to make it look good and jsut drive it. Regular mantinence will cost enough cash, after that many miles any car could be...
Thats a goodlooking manifold... I thought rams horn manifolds werent as good becuase they didnt space out the exhaust pulses correctly, thus turbo spool suffers...In theory at least :hmm:
One more note, make sure the sensor is on the top of the exhaust pipe, or on the side, if the sensor is near the bottom of the pipe water can hit the sensor and cause damage.Like redrum said, you can use a narrowband output. I have a zeitronix WB and I have the narrowband output going to...
I am assuming what he is talking about is disconnecting the plugs at the ecu and the plug at the MAF, grab your wiring diagram and use a mulitmeter to measure the Ohms over each of the wires from the MAF connector to the PCM connector. This was a very common practice when i worked at a shop...
I know you dont want to hear this, but I would just re-install the EVAP system. There is no reason to take it off unless you have an all out race car or very serious build. The EVAP system is not only for emissions, it also adds more safety to the car by capturing and burning dangerous...
You want to be very carefull (or just not do it) when checking plug wires with a Multimeter. A multimeter emits a very low voltage and 'looks' for that same voltage to measure resistance. If it gets the same voltage back it will read no resistance, or low Ohms.
A plug wire can have low...
Check and see if it is getting spark after it warms up and is dieing. And if it has spark dont assume it will run correctly, it could have spark but the spark could be out of time(if that makes sense) Im not 100% sure about the components on you car but on a lot of cars there is a little...
