So,This car has been sitting since our last post. I thought I'd throw up an update. It has a new turb now, I forget what size was picked up. New engine, 6 bolt block/7bolt head with some JE internals? I need to get the details. The actually body of the car was abused by somebody either...
yeah WTF!!! I went there 2 days ago to order up a bunch of parts and the place is just abondoned... I drove 20 minutes for nothing. Looks like we're all going to have to hit up the one on 27th street now.
My Talon.. broke on May 26th, 2005... with rod knock and possibly engine failure at any minute. So I parked it.. vowing to fix it ASAP.. in the meantime, bought a couple Hondas.. worked on those instead... but finally 2 years later, I just started up the Talon once again. :-D It's been a long...
Quite right. Well, thank you for verifying my suspicions. It seems I will be going with the cheapest alternative to this problem I can find. Thanks Again-Alex
I'm finishing up my 6 bolt swap build here. 1g 7bolt head, 6 bolt block. Now I really wasn't looking to spend anymore money and I'm really not running a high horsepower setup so I was simply wondering if the 7 Bolt oil filter housing bolts up to the 6 bolt block/oil pump. I put it on and some of...
okay my crank is in and bolted down. we also started making another video so in due time we should have the engine completely built and another building a DSM video for your viewing pleasure.thank you everybody for all your advice and help. :)
yeah so for the future motors we are going to try to reduce as much gouging as possible.. we actually played with the bore gauge today and made the spring resistance much more gentle. As for my GOUGED bearing.. I tried to use a scotch bright pad and solvent to get it out but it's deep... so I'm...
Yeah the dial bore gauge has managed to leave some semi-nasty indents/scratches in my bearings. Our local machinist told us to use a solvent and a scotch bright pad to clean them up a bit, and not to worry about the blemishes.I also just got a PM from somebody telling me there are ACL...
thank you for the replies. Yes i'm just worried about the engine not lasting very long at all. I have the balance shafts removed with fresh bearings covering the oil galleys..so you think that with the clearances I'm getting.. even thought slightly out of spec.. I should still be good?
that's possible, but that means it would have to be local and i would have to go over to the person's house, check all the journals for their measurements and then consider if its worth the purchase. i'm trying to avoid such complications.
I promise that thekyguy11 and I will make another Building a DSM ENGINE in 10 minutes video.. if I get the answer to this within the next few days... :)lol.. i really want to do another one..
Hello,Alright, I'll try to keep it short. I am re-building a stock 6 bolt. Crank was micro-polished, block was decked, honed, and cleaned up. It looks good :)I've been struggeling with the main bearing clearances for quite some time now using, plastigauge, telescoping gauges, and now an...
I'm rebuilding my 6bolt. I got the crankshaft micropolished, block honed, new bearings, and piston rings. I purchased Topline standard bearings for both mains and rods. After checking the clearances with plastigauge, the mains were at .063mm and the rods were at .050mm. As you can see, these are...
i agree he should fill out the profile, but its not his car. nor mine. he drives a soon to be turbo ls/vtec gen2 integra, and i drive a gsr swapped hatch. But.. nevertheless he refers to it as his own car in other threads SO....fill that shit out kyle...
lol.. well.. true but ya gotta give me some credit. it's been over a year and a half.. and we havn't worked on this thing in like 5 months.. im starting to forget all the little details. just the other night when someone asked me what internals we used.. i couldn't even remember what brand they...
I was talking about the upper timing belt cover you moron. You can't even see the lower cover in the pics...geez.and okay, the pipe is steel, not aluminum.. who pays attention to these things.. i sure don't
Personally you can feel the car better when you drive without power steering. I always feel more in control without it... BUT it is definitely hard to get used to turning the wheel at low speeds... you need some meat on your forearms if you want to remove your P/S...Timing belt cover we...
We drove it around today. For about... 30 to 45 minutes. It is running very well. It needs to be tuned but overall it is running smoothly. Here's some recent shots.
-those claw looking things? yea we had one of those.. but oh wait.. it was BROKEN of course..................... UGH.Kyle added all the fluids this morning, worked out all the little problems and IT HAS BEEN STARTED
The motor is running BEAUTIFULLY.
I'm going back over there right now to...
Update! :thumb: 5-7-06We pulled it out of the dusty garage where it rotted away all winter. :) It didn't really rot.. but it definitely didn't move. So the "silver bullet", as our project has been dubbed is back for it's third swing as a 7 bolt. Did an inspection and it was showing...
Dude, we left so many things out of that video is not even funny. We did it for fun, not to be an instructional... so easy on the "you left out this, and this and this"
Hello,I saw a kid tonight in a white galant VR-4. I was driving my tahitian green civic hatch. I said very few words to him and I hope to find out who the was.. maybe get some pictures of that car. It was SO DAMN CLEAN! I was extremely impressed.-Nuggets (Alex)
stored for winter.. projects on hold till spring. owner is raising some more money at the moment. we got some other projects going on. We're currently at the end of a right-hand drive conversion project on a del sol. Next we have a JDM Rally celica gt4 engine swap and hopefully come spring we...
We'll DO IT! Ky-guy, Teej, and I.. looking for buisness... things such as timing belt, clutch, as you have metioned above. We have rep with DSM's somewhat..... i think? Here's some links to prove we can help you!http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202730...
Mitsu 4-layer HG. USE IT. IT WORKS.
As for copper spray, I have never used them on headgaskets. On every organic gasket, thin material, paper-like.. yes. Such as oil pump gasket.
:D so happy for ya. and you literally had me crack a HUGE smile across my face when you wrote, "At this very moment as Im writing this all I can remember is I was going faster then shit."haha. awesome.
congrats!
That's for sure. It's actually been weird for the past week the car hasn't even been talked about because everythings still getting machined right now. But that's why you guys are here! In the meantime Kyle, TJ, and I have been keeping busy with some Honda shit. Our friend just got .020 shaved...
probably a great time to do it, but the financial situation is currently tight. We're going to stick with the new plan and get this car going with the 2g ported head/intake mani. sorry :(-alex
Kyle told me today it'll be around $400 in parts alone so... whatev. He also said he was to take the financial responsibility of the project in the beginning, so he will be replacing/fixing whats necessary with his own funds. We pulled the engine already, and basically we just have to tear...
alright, you guys have been awaiting an update so here you have it. this past week has been annoying, the car decided to start having some electrical trouble. We test everything over and over, more testing, taking all day/night.. finally we decided to try a brand new cam angle sensor... and...
Oh yea, there's someone running a 9 second auto talon on here. He's quite popular amongst this forum so I'm sure someone knows his name and the car he's driving. We drove it around yesterday and took it to the Kyguy's dad's house where we used the impact gun to tighten down some things and do...
well Bernie, Thermal R&D of course ;)btw im FINALLY shipping out ur muffler today, sorry again for the wait.update: todays the day we might have it running. we took it for a ride around the block yesterday but the clutch wasnt engaging all the way (need to adjust pedal again)...
LOL i love it. yes it's true i really didn't know much about DSM's whatsoever or.. cars. I had just bought my talon early last summer and it's my first car.. also my first car i ever worked on.. soooo i had about... i dunno 4-5 months of knowledge under my belt. i really didn't know too much or...
it's.... 5am and we just fixed the 2 problems. bad idleing and massive air leak... we forgot to change the intake mani gasket when we swapped manifolds from the 2g to the 1g... massive air leak...clutch disengagement fixed by placing a shim behind the fulcrum and tightening the clutch...
i guess i shoud update a bit. been a while since ive been on here cuz i recently ditched my dsm for a civic hatch ;) but thats a different story.the talon is... comming along. we've had alot of problems with getting the car to idle and run smoothly. basically we followed directions exactly...
