I have used both Topline front cover/ oil pump and a found it to be a POS. The case can't handle the timing belt tension and the gears and shaft eat into the case. As far as the Topline gaskets. They suck as bad as their oil pumps. Slowboy sold to me and claimed that is what they used...
I personally use only Raxles' . After going through about 20 Autozone, Car Quest, Napa axles I finally wised up. If you enjoy changing them by all means get the cheapest. :dsm:
I have have added WI from Coolingmist. Good quality at a good price. Customer service was right there. This is one of the best mods I have ever done. I currently run 50/50. :dsm:
I have been running a dual 3 inch exhaust for 6 years. I don't run a conventional muffler, rather baffles are installed in the end of each 3 inch pipe. Flows like an open pipe but meets NHRA noise standards, street baffles are available also. Exhaust exits in front of the rear tires. I'm...
MLS will seal if:* block is straight with a smooth finish.
* head is straight and also has a smooth finish.
* ARP are torqued using proper technique and proper lube.
* HG is sprayed with hylomar to seal water jackets.
I'm not quite sure why you would replace an oil pan because it's not sealing and I don't know how coolant could physically blow out the thermostat? From what I can understand from your post is that you have a blown headgasket. The broken valve spring could hang that valve open and piston...
About 50 percent of the NEW rotors I see are not straight and need to be turned right out of the box. Just because your rotors are new do not assume they are straight. :dsm:
Since the head is off have it completely disassembled by a qualified machine shop. They can tell you what needs to be done. Plan on possible valve replacement, valve seat grinding, replacing valve seals and possibly valve guides, and of course, resurfacing. Plan on spending $300-500. In...
It's tough to get those metal HG's to seal. Make sure that the head and the block are perfectly straight. For 400 HP a stock HG should do the job and is a lot easier to seal. Get a timing belt tensioner tool. Pulling the head with the manifolds attached is the easiest. Make sure to get the...
Sounds like axle seals. Only use genuine mits. Differentiating motor oil from gear oil should not be that difficult. They are very different viscosities and smell different. :dsm:
The 20g can be a great turbo for DSMs. Properly built they can spool hard at an acceptable RPM and provide pretty fair H.P. But after 5 of them My experience is that the bearings don't hold up. The bearing surface area is no greater than a 14b with the strain of the 20g comp wheel they don't...
When you overtorque above 15% of recommended which in this case would be about 95 ft/lbs you basically turn the fastener into a rubber band. Some of the fasteners will stretch and you will have uneven torque. Add heat and pressure and head gasket blows and the head can even warp. I made this...
Unfortunately these cars are very labor intensive to own and maintain. If you would like to turn some wrenches the resources are out there on what and how to do. If not, another make and or model might be more reliable for you. :dsm:
I use this clutch fork and I would never install anything with greater than 2100 lbs. with out this upgrade. I also run a welded clutch pedal with Taboo brass bushings. :dsm:2900/6puck
I though it was just me having ACT problems. They can't handle the claimed torque. The mods that must be performed for them to work at all are expensive and time consuming. I'm currently sending back a 6 puck thar sheared off the center rivets with 2900 miles of street driving. Yet I keep...
I'm in the same boat. I have a w5m332upge. I believe that you and I both have EVO 2 or 3 transmissions which have a 5.4 final drive and not the 4.9 we require. We need a JDM reference chart or vfaq on this very subject. Finding info is difficult. :dsm:
My Clutch fork was bent not broke. It flexes every shift because it's not made to push that much pressure. Another culprit is the pivot ball( look at the back side of the clutch fork, mine was all wallowed out from the pivot ball). Next get under the dash and move the clutch pedal with your...
I had some success with a longer slave rod. It's kind of a bandaid fix but you can install it in 10 minutes. Also how is your clutch linkage. 2600's eat clutch linkages also. I had to switch to brass bushings and a welded pedal to get the ACT clutches to work(also the upgraded shift fork as...
If you use 2600 or higher you will bend your shiftfork. Your symtom will be that you will not get full disengagement of the clutch I.E. grinding into every gear. Taboo makes an excellent replacement that will cure this. :dsm:
Does anyone know where to obtain the key to the jdm transmission letter codes( the four letters that follow the w5m332). So that the final drive gear ratios can be determined. :dsm:
