The reason the woman won against Honda was because she opted out of the class action lawsuit and invested the time to follow it through on her own. She took it to small claims, won her case and came close to maxing out the dollar limit. The only people that make any money on class action...
No advice as far as getting your Mirage to pass smog. I understand your frustration and anger. I've been there. I can get past the smog test because I learned how do do it here. I'm not blowing you off. Just suggesting that it would be great if someone pissed off enough took Mitsubishi to court...
Do what this woman did. Sue the bastards in small claims court and if the results are one tenth of the publicity she garnered it'll be more than worth the time and effort. Small claims court may be the way to go forward. She was unhappy with gas mileage. We have a REAL complaint.Dont Settle...
If you're going to boost 20+psi you'll want to keep an eye on knock. DSMlink does that. I have mine set to turn on the CEL when timing is retarded by knock so I know to back off the throttle when I'm not logging. DSMlink helped me determine when I got a bad tank of gas once and the amount of...
I have DSMlink and highly recommend it. I highly doubt it'll help with boost creep though. A bigger, better flowing wastegate is needed to fix that unless I'm missing something in your question. Look for threads on turbo porting for better wastegate flow.
Hey Kenamond. Old thread but I just started having the same P0340 problem on my '97 GST. It's intermittent. Starts and runs fine 99% of the time but every so often it'll take ten minutes of cranking before the problem goes away and then it runs fine again. You didn't get back to us with the...
No. You should notice a significant increase in power when the turbo is supplying boost. Boost creep is the inability of the wastegate to limit the maximum boost. Generally, more boost = more power.
Those are all over the crossmember exhausts and follow the stock exhaust path. You would have serious ground clearance problems if the exhaust went under the crossmember, especially if you lower the car at all.
Congratulations. I started this thread with post #1. I tried that strategy years ago at NV DMV smog lab on Sahara Blvd. and failed to change their mind set. Good to hear they finally got it together and you didn't spend what I spent to resolve the smog problem. Thanks to everyone that...
I got it from the tool catalog my employer provides for high-tech screwdriver jockeys. There is no end to the odd-ball specialized tools I need. If I needed a torque wrench that measured newton/meters I would have it. Your best bet is to search online and find a store that sells the in/lbs...
You'll have to be the judge if the gaskets have hardened. If you're wrong you will be doing the job twice. I have taken my VC off and put it back on using the existing gaskets, but the gaskets were less than 10k miles old. Be sure to clean off the old silicone sealer and use new silicone in the...
For those that cannot translate pidgin:"Do a search for "MBC Install" and there are some great step by step threads on this forum. If you have a a bleeder MBC there is an awesome post that includes a MS paint diagram that is very easy to understand."Stop texting and start writing...
That's the air duct that forces the air coming in to flow through the radiator. Without it the air can bypass the radiator and you may overheat. The fans turn off when the car is moving over 45 mph and the cooling system is relying on air coming through the front grille to cool the radiator...
It's not a problem if you're connecting it to the stock catalytic converter. When you upgrade to a larger high flow cat and downpipe you'll want to remove the neck down section.Because the bolts on the stock rubber hangers screw into it.
No argument with your knowledge of SS alloys. What you didn't say is 400 stainless steel is cheap and not nearly as corrosion resistant as 300 stainless steel. 300 is non-magnetic, 400 is magnetic. If a magnet sticks to your new exhaust it's cheap and will probably corrode. You either bought the...
Here is quick test to see if something is really stainless steel. If a magnet sticks to it, it is not stainless steel. I repair MRI systems. I use this test often to see if hardware I intend to use is real stainless steel.
I prefer the more expensive exhaust system with the two resonators before the muffler (2nd choice). I have a similar cat back that I bought over five years ago. (Tsudo Fireball) It got a little louder over time but stills sounds really good today. Better than new in my opinion. I have a hunch...
I zip tied the MBC to one of the upper radiator fan brackets. It kept the hoses short and the adjustment knob is easy to reach.Leave the BCS solenoid cable connected. I capped the hose nipples after disconnecting the hoses.
Thanks for the links to the EPA documents.
Your car is a '99 model year. It doesn't matter that it was manufactured in '98. The EPA goes by the model year. It's odd that you are having trouble setting the readiness monitors. Mitsubishi relaxed the drive cycle requirements to set the monitors...
The 97 GST ECU will swap into the 99 GSX without any problems, until it comes time to pass emissions. You're in CA so you will probably have to pass the OBD-II test. The 97 ECU is notorious for not setting the readiness monitors, failing the test. Many 97 owners solved the emissions problem by...
Glad I'm not the only old fart still playing with cars here. All my friends had their hot cars in their teens and twenties. I got married very young and all my money went to survival. I began my second childhood at 46 with my Spyder, slowly building it for five years now.
Your mods don't show an upgraded BOV so you must have the stock plastic 2g BOV. Don't try boosting over stock psi until you have a better BOV. The stock 2g unit leaks profusely over stock boost and your boost gauge won't read what the turbo is actually pushing because the pressure is leaking out...
I bought the FP Big28 unported. I drove for a year on stock fuel system and appreciated having a turbo that spools fast and holds boost to redline. I think it's an awesome street turbo.I thoroughly agree with talonDSMerr in post #7 because that's what I did. When the time came for the next...
I know from recent personal experience that TB shafts that are hissing a little during a boost leak test are probably leaking more boost than you imagine. I did the o-ring fix from the VFAQ a couple of years ago. It didn't last long and soon I was hearing a little hiss from the shafts again. I...
Your ECU learned to run with the FPR hose disconnected (as far as it can) and by reconnecting it you screwed up the ECU again. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes as previously suggested will zero out the ECU to default and you should be running again, assuming nothing else is broken.
I was searching posts over on the DSMlink forums on another topic and came across this post by one of the many serious tuners over there:
"Stock wires. Get them cheap at any junkyard. I've seen 180k/mi old stock wires make >700whp without so much as a hiccup. Doesn't get much better than that...
:thumb: Buy a Walmart battery with a two year free replacement warranty. I found they rarely last past the two year warranty. After a year take it back and tell them it won't hold a charge. They don't check it and you get a new battery for free every year.
Ahem... may I?
There are many things on the 4G63 engine that were done right. It's an under-tuned engine that has lasted for decades because of the potential built into it by Mitsubishi. One of the components they over built is the ignition system. Little or nothing has to be done to improve on...
When you get the 16G it won't be difficult to mate with your T25 pipes. A 90 degree silicone elbow on the j-pipe will direct the output in the same direction as the T25. Save as much of the stock radiator ducting as possible. Too many throw away the ducting and find out later that the air that...
It's been installed for almost a year. I shortened the tubing from the rail to the AFPR by adding the 90 degree elbow that came with the kit. This eliminated the loop in the tubing seen in the pictures. I found that the base fuel pressure will change over time and when the engine is hot. Check...
Your profile indicates you still have the T25 turbo. One advantage of this intercooler for you would be easy IC pipe routing since the T25 outlet is directed to the passenger side. This intercooler will be easy to install in this case. You could upgrade to a T28 or Big28 in the future and and...
It'll drive but the ECU won't know when the engine is at operating temp so it won't idle or cruise at it's best. Might even give you a CEL for engine not reaching operating temp. Saunter down to the shop and get it soldered back up.
By "line" do you mean hose or wire? I don't see any wires below the air filter so you must be talking about the hose that comes out of the white bottle? It's the coolant overflow hose. If coolant fills the bottle it goes out that hose to the ground. It's not connected to anything other than the...
A newbie thread devolved into a dispute about what turbo came with the 1G A/T. It's either a 13G or 13B. Evidence for both has been presented. Which one is correct?

They probably do qualify as DSM since they were part of the Chrysler/Mitsubishi joint venture. Most people reserve the DSM label for the Laser, Talon, Eclipse and Galant VR-4* , years 1990 through 1999.

If you want to walk him through the list, carry on.OP: the common reasons for your symptoms are listed in the link I posted. If you get stuck on any step post your questions. There's another link in the idle diagnostics post that goes into even more detail.
You got that right. Go through this check list and come back with your results.

Wrong. Yes, you can replace the stock o2 sensor with a wide band. Wide band sensor packages often have multiple programmable outputs and one of them can be configured to emulate the narrow band output. There is some risk of shortening the life of the wide band sensor if placed in the stock...
