Get the A/C parts. Since most of the components are hidden under the intake manifold, it doesn't clean up the engine bay that much. The only benefit I see is increase airflow to the radiator, and weight savings. You can just crank up the boost a bit more to make up what it weighs. I'm running a...
The rears rub a bit on large dips. I could probably increase the ride height in the rear and stiffen up the shock, but I'd rather just wait until I find someone with a fender roller. Fronts are fine with no rubbing.
Typical signs of a blown headgasket. Pick up a 'block tester' from an auto parts store and follow the directions in the kit. It tests your cooling system for the presence of hydro carbons from the exhaust. I've gone through my fair share of headgaskets and all have had perfect compression with...
I'd hang on to the parts you took off. I initially did the same thing a few years back, since I couldn't use the A/C for more than a few minutes without overheating. A 4 hour drive home from the on the highway in 100* heat with black leather seats quickly changed my mind.I bought a new...
A local shop pulled a vacuum and put R134a back in my system for less than $75. Worth it. The cans work OK for a system that is a bit low, but to properly re-charge a system that has been empty, you need to pull a vacuum and make sure to add the exact amount. Any more or less and it lowers the...
Check the rubber boots around all of your ball joints. Just because the joint isn't loose yet doesn't mean they are fine. They can tear and leak out all the ball joint grease, let in water, and start to rust the ball leading to the popping noise you are hearing when turning the wheel or going...
Assuming you have a stock 2g engine, then you are right around the service limit for compression. IIRC the service limit is 133psi on a factory 2g 4G63.Are you sure the shop performed a leakdown test properly and not just pressurized the cylinders...
I'm running a tubular ramhorn manifold that is heat wrapped, but nothing else is.If the ducting didn't help, my next step was going to be to heat wrap the downpipe/WG dump and put on a turbo blanket.
I run an ARC 3.5" FMIC, sealed the condensor to the radiator, stock radiator fan, 12" SPAL pusher, and a brand new factory radiator and no longer have overheating issues running the A/C on my 2g.What made the biggest difference was buying a new factory radiator, and ducting/sealing all the...
Typically you will want to have the block & head resurfaced and let the machine shop doing the work know you will be using a metal headgasket. I've never had good luck with metal headgaskets holding high boost at the track, but know people that have never had an issue.I usually recommend a...
First check I would make with any drivability issues is a boost leak test. Buy/build an adaptor to attach to your turbo, pressurize the intake, and spray any suspect areas with soapy water to see if there are any leaks. What is the exact problem you are having? Runs better when warm? Cold?
Most single DIN install kits for our cars come with either a plastic tray, or block-off plate for the second slot. I ran a single DIN stereo like 5 years ago, and used velcro tabs to install it to the face of the block-off plate.
I'm a big fan of OEM replacement radiators. Personally, I'd either get one from the dealer, or find a stock replacement from NAPA or equalivalent. FWIW I got a brand new 1g radiator from NAPA for less than $150, and my cooling system has never worked as well as it is now. For all you know, you...
That makes a big difference. I still have my ac installed and run the stock radiator pulley fan and the 12" pusher SPAL. With the AC off and only the stock fan in use, temps usually hover around 200-203.With the AC on and both fans running, it's around 210-216. I should probably get some...
Have you looked at how much space you will have to mount these? I also run a SPAL 12" pusher (1,230 CFM) on the drivers side, and there really isn't much space there to fit a large fan shroud without extensive trimming.Corey - do you still have A/C on yours? You might be able to fit a larger...
For those looking for a quiet set-up that also flows as well as a 3", look at this thread I made awhile ago. It's a stock looking dual tip set-up with basically 2 mufflers in one.http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bolt-tech/345139-finally-good-quiet-muffler.html
Hows the progress on these? What shrouds are you using?I just bought a new set of OEM headlights and the Morimoto mini H1s to install with 4300k bulbs. I bought a bunch of different shrouds, but the mini gattling gun ones seem to fit the best in the headlight housing. The Apollo ones looked...
No, retrofit meaning pull the HID projectors out of a car that came with them from the factory, and bolt them into your existing headlights. You can find OEM projectors all over eBay, or from here:HID Projectors from The Retrofit Source Inc
That looks really good painted! I think I'll do that next time I have the car in the air. Did you scuff up the surface at all before painting?Let me know what you figure out with wiring the button into a switch that can be mounted on the dash. I want to hook it up to the POWER/ECON switch...
Awesome, glad to see it's working out! Have any good video clips?Yes it is; mine dropped way more than that. They must have changed the design a bit since I bought mine. In looking at your pics, it looks like the inlet is right in the middle of the muffler. Mine is on the far right hand...
You don't have to lift up on the shifter on BMWs, you push it to the left like you are going to put it in first, then push harder to go past the initial resistance and put it forward.I've driven some M/T Fords that have had you lift up a ring or push down on the shifter to get reverse.As...
4Lurker's install looks very clean, definately a good unique spot. Like others have posted here, I use the pod that goes around the gauge cluster. If I didn't have the a-pillar, I don't think anyone would really notice. The gauge face looks almost the same as the stock overlay, so they really...
Happened to me too. A 'friend' took my keys late at night for a joyride and blew the main fuse trying to start it resetting my DSMLink settings. 30psi of boost + stock settings made for a lot of misfires that cracked a valve spring and ultimately the manifold.
Yea it is restrictive...but when I'm just crusing it doesn't matter to me. I'd rather have it quiet. There was a small hole above the muffler area that I put a rubber grommet into and fed wires through. I cut off the 12v plug and just ran the pos & grnd wires to a keyed source.
Yes; when the valve is closed, I can't build much more than 3psi at WOT. It has enough power to get by, but by no means is quick by any stretch of the imagination.
A recording of one of my passes at the track? I have a crappy run here. This is with the valve all the way open obviously:<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5M-TsLoLKEo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>To go from...
It's held up pretty well. After it's stored or not driven for months the valve tends to stick a bit, but a few sprays of WD-40 in the tip and toggling the close/open button cures that. I store it with the valve open to try to stop it from freezing up. I'll probably grease the shaft & plate edges...
Glad to see someone else trying it! I hadn't thought of controlling the flap with ecmlink. Have to set up a timed relay, but it could work.Post up your results when you get it!
Thats because it almost is water! :aha:I considered myself old when I stopped drinking crap beer like that. I prefer dark ales (especially scotch ales) from local microbreweries. Current favorite is called Dirty Bastard Ale from a brewery here in Michigan.Try to find a good local brewery...
I've seen flat wheel face ones with the TA look, but not the concave ones I was looking at. I've been debating about doing the red TA stripes on mine but am not sure how the would look with my car color.
Glare is glare...doesn't matter the color. The HID beam output (what you see on the ground) has proven easier on the eye than halogen because it's much closer to daylight.Nice pickup for $10 from your local yard. Should have grabbed the projectors also and you would have a perfect retro setup!
Twin intercoolers can be found on twin turbo set-ups. Not compound set-ups.To the OP, are you really heatsoaking your FMIC that badly that you want two? As posted above, there are far more efficient ways of solving that problem if you are.
It looks like someone put graffiti on your sideskirts. What size are they? Offset? What size tires are you running?I'd say this is more for the appearance forum than the handling forum...
Your wheel face will stick out about 18mm more than what you are currently running. Keep in mind this is just the wheel face, depending on the tire you might need to add a bit more to that. That should at least give you a rough idea of fitment and suspension/body clearance.
Depending on ride height and suspension stiffness, you would likely have to roll at least your rear fender lips. I'm running 18x8.5 +44 wrapped in 235/40 and on deep dips the rears rub (need to roll my fenders). What size & offset are you running now?
For that price and all the hoopla associated with it, I'd much rather pick up an E60 BMW M5. That engine sounds absolutely amazing and puts out the power I'm looking for.
:pI did disconnect the battery when I plugged it in and was a bit nervous hooking up the battery leads. Plus I started the car from the passenger side for the first time, but it works fine with the SRS computer. Still no SRS light.
