For sale 2g 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST FWD Turbo

Offered for sale is my 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST FWD turbo. I am the 2nd owner and have had it since 1998. It was in Arizona from 2000 to 2013. It has been garage kept for most of its life. The car has been well cared for, but I would not say it has been babied. Anyone who puts the time and...

    What's it worth?

Thanks guys. That is about the range I was thinking, so this was a good reality check. Putting it on bring a trailer is awfully tempting after seeing what that GSX just went for! The car gets lots of compliments and questions from strangers in parking lots. My kids kids get a kick out of it...

    What's it worth?

I will soon be selling my 97 GST, 5 speed. It has 138k. I am the second owner and have had it since 1998. It has an evo 3 16g, full stainless 3" turbo back exhaust, 650s, evo 9 fuel pump, dsmlink, Tein flex coilovers, R&M swaybars, 17X8.5 Enkei RPF1s, Apex-i electronic boost controller and a...

Aw4g63, landoawd where you at. All members from the early 2000's check in.

I'm still around but have never been terribly active. Still have the same 97 GST and it still runs great.

Where them rims at? Need some ideas!

Here is my 97 GST with 17X8.5 +40 offset RPF1s with 245/40/17 tires. They are a tight fit. Required rolling the rear fenders. The 17X7s will definitely fit in the front, but the 17X9.5s will likely require rear fenders flares or extreme rolling. It's a FWD car, you want the wide ones in the...

    RPF1 Center Caps

I have 17X8.5 Enkei RPF1s with no center caps. The center caps from Enkei are $100 for a set of 4. That seems like a ridiculous price and I'm not wild about how they look. I've found DIY center cap instructions for other cars using OEM Honda caps. I don't think that will work for my car...

    Mazda CX-5 Wheels

Can anyone tell me for sure if these wheels will fit my 1997 GST? I know the bolt pattern is right. I don't know the width for sure but I'm guessing 7 or 7.5" so that should be fine. The center bore is 67.1. I alreay have 17X8.5 Enkei RPF1s with 245/40/17 summer tires. These would just be...

2G Several Tries to Stay Started in Cold Weather

Hey thanks a lot man. I had a spare throttle body sitting around. I swapped it out and the problem is solved. My idle is better as well. I think the FIAV must have been bad.

2G Several Tries to Stay Started in Cold Weather

I suspect I have a bad coolant temperature sensor as I have a cold start problem when the ambient temperature is cold. When it's cold outside, the car struggles to start, eventually starts, and then stalls. This usually happens 3 or 4 times and then it stays started, struggles for a bit, and...

2G Several Tries to Stay Started in Cold Weather

Using dsmlink, I turned the fuel pump on for several seconds before cranking and that made no difference. I think that eliminates the lost fuel pressure theory. Is it worth doing the coolant temperature sensor test from the manual where you put it in different temperature water and read...

2G Several Tries to Stay Started in Cold Weather

It's not cold enough here for ice crystals to form. It's possible there's water in the tank. I might try the heat.I thought about the fuel pressure thing. I tried testing that by putting the key in the start position before cranking for 5-10 seconds to let the fuel pump re-pressurize...

2G Several Tries to Stay Started in Cold Weather

I've got a problem with starting the car in cold weather. It will turn over fine and start but then die immediately. After 3 or 4 starts it will stay started and run fine (it might idle low for a few seconds). Once it's warmed up a bit it will restart no problem. In warm weather there's no...

2G Car Idles Fine but Won't Rev

I had a really strange problem today with my 97 gst. I had just driven it about 12 miles with no issues and then it sat for about 20 minutes. I took it out and almost immediately it would barely rev. It idled just fine. I was only a few hundred feet from my house. I was barely able to get...

    Evo 9 OFH in 2g

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Turbosax2, could you let me know which fittings you ended up going with to clear the splash shield? I need to piece together the parts for a cooler. Any other info you could share regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
  16. jim97gst

    Evo 9 OFH in 2g

Does this housing leave plenty of space for the alternator? I'm doing the Saturn alternator swap and I'm running into the stock water cooler. I'm trying to figure out if I'll have any problems with this housing.
  17. jim97gst

    Evo 9 OFH in 2g

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but do you know if the oil ports are the same size as the evo 3 housing. I'm asking because I'd like to know if an oil cooler kit designed for the evo 3 housing will work.

    Saturn Alternator

So I'm trying to do the Saturn alternator swap. I couldn't get the alternator to rotate forward enough to get the belt tight because the oil filter cooler is in the way. I tried grinding it down and ended up grinding too much because the cooler is leaking now. I was perfectly happy with the...

    Questions about Saturn Alternator Swap

I think I'm going to do the Saturn alternator swap and have a few questions.1. Is there any downside to going with the self exciting regulator from Motor City other than spending an extra $26?2. I don't care about making more power, but I want it to fit with the least amount of fuss...

    Moog Outer Tie Rod

Any opinions on Moog outer tie rods? They're about half the price of OEM ($25 versus $50). What about whatever they have at the local parts store? It seems like a pretty simple part that would be hard to mess up. I suppose inferior materials might make them wear out more quickly.

    2G Axle and Hub

Thanks for the help guys. It was the knuckle. $35 for a junk yard one and I'm back in business.

    2G Axle and Hub

I don't think the caliper bracket is bent. I didn't mess with it at all. I whacked on the axle some trying to get it separated from the hub, but as I said, a machine shop ended up pressing them apart. It was not easy for the machine shop. They told me they had to try a few times and get it...
  23. jim97gst

    2G Axle and Hub

The new hub came as an assembly. I checked the driver side and I have it installed correctly. My latest theory is that the knuckle got tweaked when the machine shop separated the axle from the hub. I'm going to try and find a knuckle at a junkyard and see if that fixes it.
  24. jim97gst

    2G Axle and Hub

So I just had my passenger side front axle rebuilt. I replaced the hub at the same time because I was worried it got damaged when I had to have a machine shop separate the axle from the hub. I reassembled everything and the rotor rubs on the caliper bracket. It rubs on the side toward the...

    2G Axle and Hub

So I have a ripped CV boot on my 2G FWD. I tried to pull the axle but can't get it out of the hub. I pulled the whole assembly including the knuckle and control arms and took it to a machine shop. They tried a few times to press it out but were not successful. This was at closing time on...

    Ignition Lock Cylinder/Switch Issues

My ignition has been acting funny. Every once in a while during the past few months the bell that tells you the key is still in the ignition has gone off even though the key was not in the ignition. It goes off after a few seconds. Now, my radio frequently shuts off while the car is running...

    Tie Down for Optima Battery

Mmmmmm, I like the spider web one better. At the autozone where I bought the battery, there were only 2 options. Both were about the same dimensions, they were just different specs. I wasn't aware there were different sizes. Mine is about 6 3/4" tall. Do you guys have taller ones...

    Tie Down for Optima Battery

I have an optima battery in my car. It's shorter than the factory size battery, and the factory tie down doesn't work very well. [RESOLVED] Overcharging Alternator - Regulator Good

It turns out me alternator is fine. The problem was my multimeter. It's reading high. I knew something was up when I checked the voltage in a different vehicle's battery and it read 15V. I then checked the voltage in a socket in my house and it read 150V!Thanks for the reply.

[RESOLVED] Overcharging Alternator - Regulator Good

My alternator is overcharging. I took it to a rebuild place and they said the regulator was bad and replaced it. It is still overcharging. However, when I test it with the alternator connector disconnected (not the positive or negative cable, but that connector with 5 or 6 wires), it does not...

    door step

Does anyone make an aftermarket door step for a 2G? I think that's what it's called. The plastic piece that covers the part you step over getting in and out of the car. I think a nice shiny metal one would look really good. I'm pretty sure I've seen them for other cars, but never a DSM.

    Are sway bars worth it??

One option is to put both the front and rear RM bars in, but make the rear bar stiffer by drilling holes closer to the center of the bar. There's plenty of room to do it, and you can always go back to the original holes if the car is too loose for you. It's pretty hard stuff, so you need a...

Has anybody know anything about the Cherry Bomb Vortex muffler?

That cherry bomb muffler is baffled. I don't know what kind of magnaflow you requested, but most people get the "race series" which are straight through, which means there are no baffles, just a perforated tube. The baffles will make it a little more restrictive. Enough to cost you any power...

New fuel pump, couple of questions.

Running just the line to the wastegate is fine. If you want to run less boost than ask for a new boost controller. I just looked at the Joe P website and it says that all of their boost controllers have a lifetime warranty.
  38. jim97gst

New fuel pump, couple of questions.

Eliminate the MBC and run a line directly from your boost source to the wastegate. If the boost stays the same, the problem is with your wastegate. If it goes down, there is a problem with your MBC.

    LICP beer bong

    LICP beer bong

I was thinking "I can't believe he's going to drink beer through my old exhaust". My wife was thinking "I need to try and stop this so this guy doesn't die and we get sued". I think exhaust and IC pipe boys are just attention whores who had to out do each other.

OK, here's the really gross one. This guy is still alive as well.
  43. jim97gst

    LICP beer bong

I told him what it was before he did it. I suppose if you're going to drink beer through a car part, an IC pipe is one of the cleaner ones? The part has been off the car for a while, and even when it was on, the valve cover breather was not hooked up to the intake for the majority of the time...

    LICP beer bong

So I threw a "white trash" themed party. For good measure, I had some car parts strewn about the yard, of which included a 2G LICP. Several beers into the night, one of the antendees thought it would be a good idea to do a beer bong with it. No, it was not clean. Unfortunately, I don't have...

Symptoms of a bad timing belt?

The timing belt has teeth, so it won't squeal. Sounds like one of the accessory belts is loose. Tighten the accessory belts to see if it goes away.If the timing belt looks good, but you suspect it might have a problem, then you might want to check the tensioner as well. Actually, if you...

    testing/replacing FIAV

Since it only happens when the car is cold, I don't think it's crankwalk. Also, I checked my crankshaft endplay a while ago, and it was in spec, although I should check it again anyway.Although I had already checked the coil resistance on the ISC, I hadn't done the battery test. I did...

    testing/replacing FIAV

My car in general idles pretty well. The only time I have a problem is when it's cool outside and the engine isn't warmed up. Under these conditions, when I push the clutch in, the idle drops really low and sometimes stalls the car. I just checked the ISC, and it tested good. From reading...

Need Better Turbo to Manifold gasket.

And you would be correct. They are not even remotely similar.http://www.lancershop.com/customer/product.php?productid=166&cat=15&page=1I should have searched before I asked that question.

Need Better Turbo to Manifold gasket.

I do not believe my local dealer carries parts for a vehicle that was never sold in the US (evo III), and all of the 1G and 2G gaskets will all be 6 cm as far as I know. What did you ask for to get the OEM 7 cm gasket?
