I have a little problem with the guage lights. Tonight I drove the car around, testing the boost out. Everything worked fine, I even had the headlights on and the guages lit up fine. But when I went out to inspect the car later tonight, the gauge cluster wouldnt light up when the headlights...
Seems like this huge "scare" is just a small problem. Also looks like its a pretty common problem among all turbos, possibly due to owner neglect or mis-installation? Thats what its starting to seem like now. Ill probably still go with PTE now, as my uncle knows the owner ROFL .
Very strange. Must be some flaw in the turbos design. I guess Ill have to start looking into alternatives to the SCM61.Whats really weird is that you get some success stories, with turbos with over 24k on them, and some horror stories with turbos only reaching a couple hundred miles (or...
Has anybody been hearing about the PTE turbos just dying? Ive heard many horror stories of them just dying off after a few hundred miles or so, for no apparent reason. The problems seem to be limited to their SCM (sport compact mitsubishi flange) as opposed to their SC (sport compact, t3/t4)...
Hi, my transmission in my 1990 Eagle Talon recently took a crap on me. So, I got a hold of a 91 parts car, and began taking out everything needed to change trannies from a 90 to a 91. Once I looked and saw that the the shifter was a 91-94 style, I knew that I needed to get the shifter and...
I just have a few transmission related coneceptions that I want to know for sure. First off, is it possible to install a transmission by yourself (or with an additional person) without a lift? Someone mentioned to me that it is not possible to do without a lift, just want to clear this up...
Why would a cv joint or a bearing make noise in gear but not in neutral? This also happens at almost ANY speed, whether I am turning or not. And why would this happen then:That is also regardless of accelerator pedal pressure. I dont see how a wheel bearing, or cv joint is directly...
Umm that really wasnt my question. Im not entirely decided on dogbox yet. Ive personally talked to one of the owners of dogbox and its just a small 2 person operation. They are in fact designing a dogbox transmission right now, hence the name. Im still looking around the transmission sites...
Im also going through with a 2.4 build (eventually). Im using a g4cs, probably wiseco/eagle/clevite along with a SCM61 (I know the owner of precision turbo , no shit!). Ill probably be doing some head porting, and maybe some 1mm oversize valves and cams. The only problem is, my...
About a week ago I started noticing a very strange whirring and clicking noise which seemed to be coming from the engine bay on the passenger side. It does not make the noise while in neutral, or with the clutch in. The noise was more noticable while in 3rd and 4th gear, but I could still barely...
Actually the break in process I did for my older pads was pretty easy, it only took me like an hour and it was a pretty fun drive I might add :cool:Ill decide what to do when I actually get my pads
Right, if you look on the site I posted more, theres a lot more in depth information. http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/bedintheory.htm
http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/bedinstock.htmPretty much says the same thing you said. I understand the bedding process almost completely, I was...
Thanks for the info. But what Im really trying to figure out is: Should I install the brembo rotors with the old pads to "break them in" for awhile(if so, how long?)? Or should I simply install the new rotors and new pads at the same time?
I just got some brembo blanks and some Axxis Metalmaster Pads for the front brakes, as well as blank generic rotors for the rear. What is the proper "break in" procedure? Should I install the brembo rotors with the old pads to "break them in" for awhile(if so, how long?)? Or should I simply...
The size is also distracting. I think being a little more subtle would be key in modifying the interior. Just KISS (KeepItSimpleStupid). I agree with the lettering as well, kind of tacky. Go with a more sophisticated and high tech look. The mitsu symbol is great addition to the...
Heres a crappy pic of my autometer ultralite series boost gauge. I just glued 1 led in the back of it where the bulb used to go. I bet it would be much better if I stuck it in there further or used 2....or 3...or 4ahha
Thanks, it turned out good IMO, but I did do one thing that bothered me. I accidently ordered 2 50pack LEDs off ebay, each from a different manufacturer and I got them mixed up in my parts bin. Hence, they arent the same "tint" of blue. You can BARELY notice it, but if you look very closely...
Now what would really add to that would be if they offered clear corners with that similar "modification". It just looks weird to have those ultra-clear headlights right next to the foggy clear corners. They just clash too much. Otherwise I reeeally like those headlights, will definately be...
I kind of did the same thing you could say. I just converted my gauge cluster bulbs to LEDs, and changed my HVAC bulbs to LEDs. I would like to know, in detail, of how to install LEDs into the stock switches. My main question would be how did you disassemble the switches and how did you get...
Yeah, I kinda figured it was like that. I have mine all wired up, except I never got it going, due to the fact that my soldering iron broke, and my switch didnt work  . God I need a butane iron!
Thats really weird, I guess I dont understand how mitsubishi solenoids work :p . I just kind of figured that the solenoid is pretty much an additional MBC. Since bleeder valve MBC's "bleed" off vaccum pressure that is going to the wastegate actuator, I figured thats the same thing solenoids...
Yeah this has been discussed before. Its fairly simple actually, you just need a MBC and one stock BCS, and wire it to a 12v source with a switch. Im personally going to use a 1g automatic power/economy switch, looks stealthy and stock-like.I really dont know why you would attach that...
Yeah, our school cop is always involved in stuff like that. In fact a lot of the times after school the officer thats on patrol at the time just sits RIGHT next to the parking lot exit, just waiting for someone to screw up. I think thats just ridiculous, plus that cops a complete asshole...
I agree that a GSX would be the best choice, hell it should be the only choice. Just dont expect to be reacing into the 10's and even 11's with just "some mods". Its going to take a lot of work to get into the 11's, and even more to get into the 10's.
It all depends on how much boost you want to run, the higher the compression ratio the less boost you will be able to (safely) run. There are tradeoffs for each one, and benefits as well. With higher compression you have a higher chance of knock (knock=...
Read the tread. If you use stock 1g or 2g pistons your compresssion ratio will be very high. The stock rods are also a limitation, as they are very weak. If youre going to really utilize the 2.4 (ie 50 or 60 trim...or bigger) the stock rods will break.
Heres a link to some nice cheap seats I found:http://216.242.145.9/shop/product.phtml?p=178&large=1They seem to be really nice for the price ($150 a seat). I was thinking of just recovering some cloth 1g seats I had with some material similar to what Sparco uses, and also doing the...
Yeah I fixed mine too. The alternator belt just needed proper tensioning, and Im not sure exactly what broke on the coolant system. I just replaced the radiator and fans (the current one had lots of fins missing, and I had a spare), flushed the system out a lot, changed the thermostat and...
How did they make the "dash" not textured like the stock one when they painted it? did they sand down the dash? Id like to do this, but in a semi-gloss black, that would be awesome.
Another tragic story of Pimp My Ride. I cant believe how everyone buys into PMR (pimp my ride) so easily too. Everyone (well not everyone) at my high school is talking about it the next day and how "piamp" it was. I bet I'm the only person in the ENTIRE school who thinks its a complete...
Steering Wheel, LED HVAC lights, LED foot lights (that only turn on when you open your door!), LED gauge cluster lights. Use the same brand LED and same color led, it will match and look classy. Metal pedals or pedal covers if youre on a budget, get a metal "dead pedal" along with your pedal...
Ive been a viper fan almost all my life....what I wouldnt give to drive one of those. I dont really like the newer designed vipers as much as the older ones though. But if it were just driving, any viper would be higher on my drive list than any dsm.
Im also looking into mechanical engineering or even automotive engineering as a field. I know someone who went to some automotive engineering specialty school in Detroit, even though it was sponsored/created by GM and Ford. He went to school for a couple months, then worked as a mechanic for...
Could someone give me some links to some o2 housing flanges? I mean the flanges that allow you to make a "custom" o2 housing. Here is a picture to illustrate what Im looking for:http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~lgigliot/DSR/53.jpg
On your next car I would try this: http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_0059/article.htmlAnother almost failsafe thing to immobilize the car would be: Rewire your fuel pump and tap the 12v wire into the fuse block inside the interior. Using a small fuse tap to tap the wire into a 12v source...
My DSM has been my first car for the past 5 months. I really dont think its a good idea to start driving with a dsm for the first 6 months of having your license, or a year even. It takes that time to build up experience and judgement. I got my DSM about 6 months after I got my license, due...
It seems, that since I got my DSM a lot of people think Im an over obsessive car nut, and one even went to saying that I had Obsessive Compulsion Disorder  . I know I get a little obsessed sometimes, but cmon....Does your DSM make you have OCD?
