Ok im planning on painting my valve cover this summer. If i take it off should i got ahead and replace the gasket or will it be ok. Im also aware that i should probably scrape the remains of the gasket from the cover with a putty knife or something. TIA:dsm:

Yes im thinking about buying a 1g soon and from what i have read over the years 16 PSI sounds like the max for safety. And like they^^^ said a new larger pump isnt all that expensive, especially considering you might be saving you engine from accidentally running lean*kaboom*
Ya i would keep the SI. With some good auto-x skills you can kill with that thing. SIs are always dominating STS in nationals. Hondas are generally good, affordable platforms for auto-x and even drag.
I have to disagree here. Look at old mustangs people love to collect. They were made to be affordable and abundant. They also didn't have a lot of standard comfort features either. Cheap and easy to build. Same with camaros. Of course the more rare special cars are more of collector items but...
The door handles are plastic. I got them painted with my bumper, side skirts and tail light piece. I didn't paint the mirriors because I like how they blend in with my dark windows. But they would handle paint just as well if you would like. You could probably get them painted pretty cheap, most...
Many people use two different kinds of tires, it's not a huge problem but i wouldn't do it. I am assuming that you want good performing tires by what you listed, if so then buy all four for sure. One drawback is uneven treadwear. All the tires you listed will wear much faster than your old tires...
I'm assuming you are considering stage 2's. If so you won't need to upgrade springs, or atleast not for a while depending on your milage. But if you have some extra money then why not throw those in while you are at it. I suggest buying some springs from howell or directly from crower. Retainers...
Can't really go wrong with the N1. replacing the cat is kinda risky though for sound. A lot of people say it sounds a lot more "tingy" or there is more buzz without a cat. It might not be worth it on a non-turbo, but i'm not speaking from direct experience. The greddy evo sounds really nice too...
jtmcinder is right about the suspension travel. More travel(to an extent) is better for performance, especially on real world roads/tracks. The less travel you have, the less time your tires are in contact with the road when they come to an irregularity in the road surface. If track/road is...
I agree, Tein coilovers are nice but a little pricey. Tokico illuminas are great though, My friend has them on his integra and I love them. You could go for some more affordable KYB AGX shocks which are also just as nice IMO. I got a set for $310 shipped on ebay so I'm sure you can also find a...
That sounds like a pretty nice set-up. Just remember to find some 7.5 inch wide wheels or 225 tires with 7.0 inch. I Love my KYB AGX shocks, a lot of people used to say they have problems on 2g's but they have worked great for auto-x and street. I have pro-kit springs, sportline is probably a...
Hey, i just got an awesome deal IMO on some RS limited wheels. They are 17x7 and 17 lbs. I bought them for only $348 shipped. I believe they look like the rotas you like. Check ebay for some good deals, it took for ever looking through all the wheels but I'm happy with these.
Yes, he has good info on DSM suspension, ours is not the best. Too bad we don't have a simple A-arm set up. I have some KYB AGX shocks with pro kit springs, they do an awesome job. I believe KYB will not warranty the shocks with more than a 1.5 inch drop. Those shocks will work with a 2 inch...
I believe some 95 and early 96 non- turbo DSMs can use a dry kit because they have a FPR on the feul rail. That changed some time in 96 to a returnless feul rail(i think that what its called) and the car wont compensate for the nitrous, therefore needing a wet system to add feul for it.
Yes, modern performance probably has the best TB for the price, fit and finish. Just remember that it may not be the best size(60mm) for your engines flow characteristics. A lot of that data is beyond me but if you do a little research you will find that bigger isn't always better. There is also...
You can't really compare a rod and a piston because they take different kinds of abuse. A rod rotates with the crankshaft and has to be able to handle the power pushing the piston down. A piston moves up and down and takes on all the combustion duties. If your engine is detonating or pinging...
A lot of people are just finding out about these, they have been used in race v8s for a long time with impressive gains. I have heard a few DSM people say they could feel a difference, plus it makes things easier on your engine. BTW the ends of your rods don't actually scrape the piece but come...
my side markers and turn signal lenses in my headlights are clear but I have orange bulbs. Actually i smoked my sidemarkers but I think as long as it has an amber light its legal. I kind of like the look of orange lights actually.
Ok, to straighten things out... 90-99 turbo cars had the 4g63 and needed the hump for timing belt clearence. 95-99 non-turbo cars had a 420a, the timing belt is on the other side of the engine and doesn't need a hump. My guess is that all eclipses had the hump because it would be cheaper to make...
My dad and I did this with his stock miata wheels. They are normally a dull slver color but after using aircraft remover to strip off the paint, we found the machined rim to have a nice polished look. After cleaning them up we taped off the rim(to keep the polished look) then used light coats of...
Hey greathuskie, the headlights will fit your car. I'm still not sure if I can sell them right away because I need to get my other bumper painted first. The guy that is painting for me is supposed to let me know when i can get on his schedule tomorrow. Sorry about not being sure when i can let...
Hey herostar, I painted my headlight housings black. It looks a lot more aggressive now. I might be selling my lights soon if you want them or you can paint your own. It just takes a little patience. I will try to post some pics for you guys. Need to figure out my new digi cam.
Usually you have to custom mount aftermarket side skirts or even factory skirts if you don't already have them. Rivets, screws, body tape, etc. There are many ways to put them on. My rs came w/ out side skirts from the factory so it doesn't have any mounting holes. Now i have to figure out how...
I thought the only problem was that they advertised more HP than they actually had. Didn't hear much about a big power loss like that. Also like someone said, the autos have a lot less HP.
I have an N1 on stock piping and it is definatley a low growl. There is no harsh 'tingy' sound. It also isn't loud and annoying when you are cruising around town but it gets good attention. I get a few comments here and there on how it sounds aggresive and not ricey. I was on a tight budget too...
I think they look great and have very nice interior. Downsides IMO are low torque, altezza tails, and four doors. A dealership sent one out to the last auto-x at the end of july to lead parade laps and show it off in the parking lot. Everyone was checkin it out and a guy with a new 350z was...
The swap can be done, but it will probably end up costing the same as the car. Custom motor mounts must be made along with tons of other custom stuff. It would be a huge headache to swap. The 4g63 sits on the other side of the engine bay too so that might cause problems. I have no idea what you...
My dual projectors just came in yesterday from nopi. Im so excited to do my 97-99 conversion. I think there are only 2 styles of aftermarket headlights, dual and single projector. I heard the singles use h3 bulbs and are pretty dim.
clear corners? like in the headlights? I took my headlights apart to paint the housing black and while i was at it i removed the amber plastic thing so now my headlight corners are clear. I dont know if that whats you meant.
Hmm that would be a challenge but a cool project. I guess you could rip out the dash and make a fiberglass mold simalar to the dash. You could also add things or change shapes as you like. Once you get the shape you want then you will have to reinforce the basic shape by adding more layers of...
Funny you ask, i just put mine back in last night. I'm not sure if you meant a custom dahs or repainted. I completely stripped may car a repainted everything black and painted the dash with vinyl paint. I also added some red accents here and there, nothing too ricy IMO. As for pics, my digi cam...
17s will be faster of course since more of the mass is closer to the center. But i'm assuming you arent an all out hard core drag racer since you are considering 18s. i don't think 18s would make a huge dfference in slowing you down. I'm not a big fan of big wheels on 1gs though, 17 inch rays...
Thanks for the info hokie. I have checked autox.dsm and they have some good info, too bad its pretty much focused on turbo dsms lol but thats cool. My dad and I are kinda looking for a 1G GSX to play with but we both really like driving miatas so we'll see. I still would like to race my car...
I haven't seen many posts about solo 2/autocross. Just wanted to see how many DSMers enjoy it. I Know our cars aren't the best foundation for this kind of racing but it would be fun in any car. The editor for our region scca newsletter has a nice 2g GSX though w/ t28, apex'i FMIC, etc etc. but...
I'm sure they will keep making them, they aren't just gonna make a big deal and import the evo for 1 year. As for limited production, yes they are limited but i don't know how much. I doubt it will get to where you can't buy one though so don't worry. I too didn't care a whole lot for the looks...
