Woah guys let me give you the scoop, Both auto zone and advance auto get their axles from the same place CCT, you do not want these axles I used to work there and they would consistently get them wrong especially for any DSM DO NOT BUY THEM. I know many shops that only buy the ones from NAPA...
Woah that was a lot, Lets start with the basics, you could have a bad idle switch go to http://members.shaw.ca/dsm.1000q/Engineprimer/1G/idleswitch.htm to learn more about that. Also this is a great site that identifies everything in the engine bay for you: Virtual Tour of the DSM Engine Bay -...
v3 has a battery that keeps your info stored when you program it. But you ###### have v2 in which case when your battery dies you lose what you programed and you have to go back to what was preset from dsm link. Injector size is preset from dsmlink
Yes you can use the 10% taller 5th gear that the evo has it will lower your RPMs 300 rpm so say you cruise at 3000 rpm you'll now cruise at 2700 rpm at the same speed. DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THIS YOURSELF, these trannies are crazy complex and its worth it to have someone do it right. I've seen...
The two black wires are your heater wires to heat the O2 sensor the White is your ground and the Blue is your signal wire, also i know on Bosch O2 sensors they coat the wires to be solder prof and solder will not stick to them for anything, if you can solder them solder it as far away from the...
Here's what you want its all in this thread:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-miscellaneous/198327-taboo-speed-shop-vacuum-diagram-removal-1g-2g.htmlAnd P is the EVAP -which is important don't remove the system!
owww that could be a lot of things, how many miles? it actually sounds like your running lean and not getting enough gas that's classic symptoms also especially with that turbo. Take the plugs out and put the boots back on them and have a friend turn over the engine to check what ones spark...
Easiest way is to take everything off the new engine untill you have a block and head, and then take the new engine out and just transfer parts, all the senors will work guaranteed that way, btw while its out grease your throwout bearings and put some good fluids in there, i suggest some...
100 bucks says its an alternator, first push on the belt and see if it moves more than an half an inch, if thats good, get a multimeter ($25 and get it from sears -they sell the best meters for the buck) and check the output volts on the alternator by putting red on the covered nut and then...
Talondave is correct, it will help you out. Out of curosity how where the plugs?, all black, white tips, heavy soot?Talondave is correct, it will help you out. Out of curiosity how where the plugs?, all black, white tips, heavy soot?
Get the hose out and slowly work up the seams and have someone inside checking the leak or you can check every so often, after you find your leaks get some black silicone from Lowes- and dont use RTV! You should be cool
Whoa buddy the compression test definitely should have been your first plan of, it where you thread in a compression gauge (35 bones @ Advance Auto) into your spark plug holes and you turn the engine over and see how much pressure the cylinder will hold. By doing this you can find out if you...
BTW I also am guilty of the last 3 posts, but who hasn't raised the car before they loosen the lugs I feel like if your the kind of guy who owns these cars you've done that like 10 times by now.
At 2:00am I was doing a test and had the fuel pressure regulator off and I also had the spark plugs out trying to hunt down a problem. When I had my friend turn the engine over to see if the cam angle senor was working gasoline poured out the end of the fuel rail onto arching plug wires!!!! I...
Yes you can damage you alternator by just unhooking it, it puts too much load on it and it will burn it up, you didn't do this by that simple test. Just check your fuses in the engine bay and in the car. If you want to make sure the alternator is good Auto zone or Advance Auto can test it while...
Dsm-moster is correct, the solenoid opens vacuum from the brake booster when its cold out to raise the fuel pressure for a richer mixture, your AFPR does this for you, so I would say you wouldn't need it, its a small adjustment that you probably would notice anything different anyways either...
True story I know these engines are decently balanced, but having 6 "pushes" per revolution VS 4 "pushes" per revolution would be smoother. Any other input?
Hey i just drove my friends 00 Passat (2.4L V6 manual) and it was completely smooth, i brought it down to 200rpm's in 5th!!! and speed up with no vibrations whatsoever, I gotta admit i was kind of impressed. Now it is a V6, but its not that big, I wish i had and under car cam.
This is not a huge problem like a thud thud thud, someone try this out in you car and you'll notice it. My dads front wheel drive MX-6 did the same thing, not to says its not the u-joints but its would seems its something else.
I think this is a common occurrence in cars, when you step on it in high gear and lower speeds. It sounds like maybe the tires might be out of balance, or maybe its the transmission shifting in the mounts, and trust me i do blow out the carbon occasionally:sneaky:.
So I've been working on this car way too long, but one thing that bothers me is the vibration you get at low rpms and a high gear. I love shifting, just going through the gears makes me happy and it gets me better gas mileage:D, and If you step on the gas in 5th gear going slow around 35mph, you...
thanks Joe, I just did some tests and I got power to the relay, and the relay works, but I checked and the relay is normaly closed relay (NC) when you give it power it opens??? so its working but i dont know how you open a circuit and have power flow through it to the starter??? any help?
I just threw a new 6 bolt in a 2g that already had a 6bolt in it and i turned the key and the starter wont turn WTF so i did the all basics, but i need to know if you have to have the manual t. in neutral to start it, or can I just have the clutch in? cause i didnt hook up the shifter cabels yet...
You can crank the PSI as much as you want, there is just a direct coralation between how much boost you put in you car and how much $ your going to put in your car to fix it. lol,... but seriously it true
Well yeah, if mark it and put the same ones back in the same place, no prob. Or you can go and get them balenced for like $40 and have them put the sticky wheel weights on that go on the inside of the rim and dont show. I dont even think it cost extra at most places.
If its not your turbo, 99% sure your going to have to take off that timing belt cover and check it out. If you want to narrow down pulleys you can easily take one belt of at a time, of couse dont run it excessivly with out the water pump belt off. take luck
Also, A battery on a full charge should last I think 24 hours, anyway it will get you to an autoparts store, charge up your battery and have Advanced Auto check it or Auto Zone for free. Also make sure your post clamps are tight.
Woah wait a sec yes it could be rod knock, but for that long of time without getting worse??? on two diffrent DSMs we had simmilar noises and it was acctaully a bad exaust mainfold gasket that was letting noise right from the engine out instead of all the way to the muffler. I didnt even see...
before you go off doing that what happens alot with these cars is that the linkage gets bent when the door handle was first ripped off. You can tweek the linkage it back into place by hand, check it out.
YES PB blaster is the best chemical solution for stubourn bolts, but also taping it with a hammer will crack threads loose, or putting a propane torch to the surrounding area causing the nut to expand and loosing the bolt. Good luck and please rate me
I would highly recomend replacing the spark plugs, I had the exact same problem and the spark plugs had fowled out, apparently the NGK spark plugs fowl out very easy. dont bother spending 5 dollars a plug to replace them with the NGKs, just grab the 1.99 champions I found that they work great...
Look at your carrier bearing, they are a commom cause of driveshaft vibration. Look at the rubber on the inside, if its torn thats your problem, otherswise drain your transfercase fluid, if you got silver then you blew a bearing in that. Also look for signs of the the transfercase recall, like...
Yes you can paint the vinyl on your seats or on the door panel, but you can not paint any other plastics with it, :toobad: it will "eye" up very easily, and later it will flake off, even with prep cleaning. If you want that really high gloss car paint finish on your dash you have to put layers...
Holy crap OMG , you have a problem with you coolant flow and are overheating, don't drive it :nono: Take the two 12mm bolts off the top thermostate housing and replace your thermostate, Check your hoses squeeze them and if they are soft and feel sticky there collapsing while your driving and...
Yeah your going to need to fix that, and I would do it ASAP! umm... that oil leak can cause a new world of problems for you car if not fixed, especiallly at that rate, wow that a lot of oil WTF . The mechanic wasnt pulling your leg, its going to cost you some green, because you need to take out...
As for the wiring harness, im 95% sure its exactly the same, my cars are 3 hours away from me so i cant check, but Im almost positive. :thumb:Well as for the engine year, the throttle bodies are diffrent from 90-91, if you have one with 4 vaccum tubes comming off the top you have a 91-92...
Oh and i don't know where you live but you can pick a compression tester up at Advance Auto Parts for 25 bones. I would highly recommend getting one because you can use it on any car and its a good way to determine the condition of an engine. Sorry if i over explained things a bit, i don't know...
Well if you bent a valve you might have just ruined a piston too, and if you did just skip your timing you've also probally messed a piston up. WTF The best thing you can do is go and get yourself a compression tester. It's basically a high pressure gage with a hose and it screws into your...
Go for it, its a rare car, and its an amazing car. Someone sunk a lot of money into that car with mods that are hard to come by. totally worth your time. I hope your a good mechanic though. :thumb:
Yes it sounds like you do have a leak. Your hoses might look fine but there probally not. Do the squeeze test, crush the hose in your hand if it rebounds quick you're good, if it feels "sticky" and doesn't rebound fast then it needs to be replaced. Also if one of them is going replace both of...
