  1. Another problem, this time a wierd noise

I recently posted that my shifting had become harder in First and third gears. Well about 2 days ago, I noticed that when I am in gears 3-5 I hear a sound that is hard to describe. It sounds like something is loose and wobbling in the transmission. It sounds like the sound that it would make if...
  2. Problems shifting, First is gone and Third is going

I have been searching all night and I think I have finally figured out the problem that I have been dealing with for over a year. Basically, my first gear has been useless without first shifting into second gear. Well recently, third has started to do the same thing. It is very notchy when I try...
  3. Clicking when starting from a stop

Well I looked at the brakes. The little adhesive pad that goes on the back of the actual brake pad is beginning to peel off. Also one of the clips that holds the pad in the caliper looks like it has come loose. Its nice to know that I don't have to replace wheel bearings or anything. Thanks for...
  4. Clicking when starting from a stop

yeah I was thinking brakes too. I noticed that it does it more when I go in reverse after going forward and vice versa. I'm thinking the clip that holds the pad in place may have come loose allowing the pad to slide back and forth, or something like that. I am going to check that out on friday.
  5. Clicking when starting from a stop

I did a search and didn't find anything like this so I thought it was time to ask.My 98 GSX has about 86k on it and I noticed that sometimes when I start from a stop, as I start moving, I hear a click noise from the driver's side front. It sounds almost like when a lug nut is loose or...
  6. 1g sidemount on a 2g?

Thats what I said. The real question is how difficult will it be to "make it work". I will just have to get under there and tear it apart.
  7. 1g sidemount on a 2g?

I was wondering if a 1g alamo sidemount intercooler will fit on a 2g. My girlfriend just bought a car that had one on it and she doesn't need it. Essentially I can have a free alamo sidemount but I don't know if it will fit. Anyone know about this? Sorry if its a noobie question but I don't...
  8. Problems shifting into first gear

well last night was kinda cool and I drove the car about 40 miles (mostly on the highway, but plenty through stop lights too.) I found that it did not lock me out of gear but it did get notchier. I'm wondering if it could be something like tranny fluid that would be affected more in the 95...
  9. Problems shifting into first gear

I'm not sure what "biff" means but I found out:If I shift into fifth, then try to go straight to reverse, I am totally locked out. If I go back to neutral and then reverse it will go. If I go almost into fifth, then it will go into reverse. If I go to fourth, then reverse it will go right...
  10. Problems shifting into first gear

I just meant that when sitting at a stop with my foot on the brake (so the car can't roll), the engine RPM doesn't drop. Basically, if the clutch was still engaged, it would most likely affect the idle because it would be trying to move forward but can't.And as for the heating up, it gets...
  11. Problems shifting into first gear

The car does not roll nor do the RPMs drop at a stop so I don't think it is that.As for adjusting it. I noticed that no matter what I do to adjust it, it just changes the travel of the clutch pedal. People say they can move the engagement point but when I adjust the pin on the master...
  12. Problems shifting into first gear

I have searched like crazy on this but can't find any information about it.I have a 1998 GSX with a comp 4 puck sprung disc and lightweight flywheel with pennzoil synchromesh tranny fluid.I have recently been having problems shifting into first gear once my car warms up. When it is cold...
  13. oil leak or wat?

I guess it could be the dipstick but you would see it in alot of other places as well if that was the case. The dipstick would need to be out to do that. It could be coming through your spark plug holes or maybe your valve cover is cracked. I know my oil cap is leaking because I have the same...
  14. Oil Pump Install

Anyone have any information on this? I did a search but havent come up with much information or a how-to do this on a 1G AWD other than its time consuming. The timing belt was replaced and the balance shafts removed 5000 miles ago, so any other information would be appreciated.
  15. bad Throwout bearing symptoms

I've searched like crazy on this subject but can't find an answer so here's my problem.I have a Comp 4 puck clutch with their metal sleeved TOB that comes with the disc. The disc was replaced in January, and the throwout bearing was replaced in november with maybe 10,000 miles (long story)...
  16. Clutch Tranny question

Yeah those shifter cables coming loose have done that to me as well. Its so annoying. But yeah, the imput shaft and the inside of the throwout bearing need to be greased pretty well. You want more than a thin film but not a bucket. When I did it, I just greased the hell out of both and then...
  17. Clutch Tranny question

It might be your throwout bearing. I had a clutch installed and they didn't grease the throwout bearing, and it did what yours is doing. It would be great until it warms up and then it would be almost impossible to get into first gear and other gears as well. What happens when there is no...
  18. Inner Tie Rod Replacement...

No, I just did one side. The other is still fine, but yea I am watching for it to go out. I'm just happy it is done. Its kinda scary when you know that there is a ticking time bomb on your car and at any minute it could go out sending you off the road. As much work as it was, it puts my mind at...
  19. Inner Tie Rod Replacement...

WHAT A PITA!!! I just changed my passenger side tie rod tonight and it took damn near 3 hours. First getting the old tie rod end out took about 30 mins. We smacked the dogshit out of it for a while and soaked it in PB blaster but it wouldn't come off. I even went to try to rent a tie rod puller...
  20. please tell me its not crank walk...

try bleeding your clutch. Check to see if your master or slave cylinders might be leaking. Pull the boot back on the slave cylinder and see if there is any fluid there. Also check the rod coming out of the firewall to your clutch pedal. If either of those have fluid coming from them they are...
  21. Strange scratching sound

My girlfriend just got a 1990 awd talon that has a rebuilt motor and tranny. Everything is new on it but it seems to be making a scratching sound when rolling. It is not a constant sound, it is kinda random. It is quite loud in gear, and much quieter and less often when rolling in neutral. The...
  22. Whining noise..T-Case?

My car makes a whining noise when I accelerate as well. At first I tried to figure it out, it seemed to only happen when I was putting power to the wheels, not rolling. Well its done that since the day I bought it (at 40K miles). Currently it is at 77K with its 4th batch of tranny fluid and it...
  23. Notchy shifts after car is warmed up

Its actually not that tough of a job. I did it and had no problems. It was time consuming and sometimes frustrating but not that bad. The only reason I took it to a shop this time was because I thought I messed something up when I did it myself. Turns out the shop that resurfaced my flywheel...
  24. Notchy shifts after car is warmed up

its not hard, just time consuming. You have to drop the transmission to do it. Once you're there you might as well change the clutch too.
  25. Notchy shifts after car is warmed up

Well I found out what it was. The guy who installed my clutch didn't put any grease on the throw out bearing so it wouldn't disengage properly and wore out the throwout bearing. It wouldn't slide properly on the input shaft so thats what made it get harder. Anyway, it is being fixed now and I'm...
  26. Notchy shifts after car is warmed up

Well I bled the crap out of the thing today. I put about a bottle through it. It seems to keep doing it even afterwards. It is still sometimes notchy and the pedal pressure seems to change from normal to harder and back again. My only idea is that there is a leak in one of the lines. When I put...
  27. Notchy shifts after car is warmed up

UPDATE:Tonight I bled the clutch. I tried using a pump and think I did more harm than good. But anyway, Its still doing it but I think it is a bit better. I think I just didn't bleed it enough. Tomorrow I will try again and I'll run about a whole bottle through it. I'll let you know...
  28. Notchy shifts after car is warmed up

I will check the slave cylinder. I know the master is alright (I've been under there a hundred times in the past week or so)
  29. Notchy shifts after car is warmed up

I tried searching but couldn't find a problem like this so here it is.I have a 1998 GSX with a competition 4 puck clutch. It was just put in about 1000 miles ago as well as a new master and slave cylinder. It has some regular castrol 80W-90 fluid in it (I know I should have gone synthetic...
  30. Low voltage and a squeaky belt

My 98 GSX has been having some voltage issues. First I noticed that a belt is squeaking. At idle its quiet but when I rev it it begins to squeak. Its not a loud squealing that usually signifies a slipping belt, just a light squeak. After I rev it, and the rpms drop back to idle the voltage also...
  31. which boost controller to go with?

Greddy Profec B. I have heard only good things about them. Sport compact Car tested a bunch of boost controllers and it was one of the best even though it is one of the lower priced ones. It avoids spiking very well. My friend with a SR 240 has had no probs with his.
  32. do u need the turbo timer harness for your car?

I have hardwired a SRT4, and I used a harness on my GSX. The harness was $10 so I bought it because pluging in things is simple. The SRT4 had no harness so we just did it the harder way but it wasn't bad at all. As long as you know what lines to splice, there will be no problem. It is not a...
  33. HOLY SHAT look at these PICS****

I dunno if it is fake or not, but It sure seems like it. There are NO skid marks on the ground, no glass and no fluids. Makes me wonder because with heavy metal sliding on dirt, you should see some marks. I don't know why someone would fake something like this but it just seems too clean for a...
  34. Dawn of the Dead: REVIEW

I wasn't a fan of this movie. Then again, I'm not a big fan of horror movies but it didn't have the depth that I expected. Anyway, there definately were some funny parts but I guess I expected more intellectual explanation than just the death and blood. I suppose thats why I'm not a horror fan...
  35. DSM is a true Tuner's car

I've only had my dsm for about 7 months but already I have learned more than I can imagine. I just changed my own clutch and pretty much done everything on my car (except timing belt, taking that to a shop but I'm going to learn from them so I can do it next time). But yeah, this car and this...
  36. Clutch/Flywheel suggestions?

I just installed a AMS Feramic. Great clutch so far. The pedal is lighter than stock and I pushed it hard for the first time last night (just broke it in) and it spun my front tires into second gear with a slow shift. I'm pleased. I can't wait to launch it
  37. Need Your Help On CLutch Selection!

I also just put in my AMS feramic clutch (made by AMS - www.http://www.automotosports.com/dsm_drivetrain.asp)I am still breaking it in but the pedal is very light (much lighter than stock) so driving around town is easy. AMS is also very nice to deal with and ship quickly (My clutch was sent...
  38. New clutch, soft pedal

I have no idea. Mine doesn't make any noises, as far as I know.
  39. New clutch, soft pedal

That makes me feel so much better to hear that. I have been adjusting my clutch pedal the past two days and have bled it 2 times. I have gotten a little pressure back by adjusting it but its still light. As long as thats normal, Its cool. I was just afraid I put it in wrong or had a real...
  40. New clutch, soft pedal

No I did not replace the clutch line but as I said, I've been really soft on this clutch so it shouldn't really matter now. But yeah, it drives fine so I guess I won't worry about it until I start getting on it. If it is slipping then, I will start to worry but right now it seems fine, just light.
  41. New clutch, soft pedal

Well I got my AMS Feramic clutch in friday night. It took me forever to get the car back together but I did it. Anyway, I noticed the pedal was really easy to push and felt sluggish coming off the floor so I bled it and now its more springy but still very soft. It seems softer than my friend's...
  42. Warning Do Not Buy A Subaru Wrx

My roommate had a 04 WRX and after 14000 miles he broke his transmission trying to launch it. He drove it hard but I don't think he drove it that hard. It wouldn't stop me from buying a WRX, I would just be careful with it.Its kinda like crankwalk. I was worried about it but I still bought...
  43. How to reinstall clutch?

Thanks alot guys. I had a good idea of how this was supposed to work but I've never done it so I just wanted to get an informed opinion. Hopefully by tomorrow evening it should be back and running. I can't wait, being without a car for 2 weeks has killed me.As for the clutch, I got an AMS...
  44. How to reinstall clutch?

Sorry for this complete noob question, but I tried searching and theres nothing here, at vfaq or on other dsm boards. I was wondering what the step by step of reinstalling my clutch would be. I need torque specs for the pressure plate. I know the flywheel is 100 ft/lbs but I haven't heard about...
  45. Just installed ACT 2600

How do you like that feramic? I just got mine in the mail, and dropped my tranny tonight (biggest pain in the ass ever). It is all going back friday so I hope this thing is good because I don't ever want to do this again.
  46. Feramic Clutch

I've read a little bit about these clutches. I believe there was a thread on dsmtalk where people were talking about how great these were and even the president of ACT was posting. It was interesting but the general idea was that the feramic clutch is a good alternative to the 2g cars that fear...
  47. Passenger Side Axle giving me problems

well I used pneumo's idea and just pressed on they pry bar with my foot. It came out real quick then. Thank god, I was getting tired of all that crap. Anyway, thanks for the help guys. I'm sure there will be more in the future, I'll be posting again I'm sure.
  48. Feramic Clutch

Yeah my stock clutch just went out (started slipping on the highway), so ordered a feramic. Should have it in and on the road monday. I hope they are as good as I hear.
  49. Passenger Side Axle giving me problems

What did you guys use to pry it out? I have been using a long screw driver but I'm thinking i'm gonna get a big pry bar at the store today because the screw driver doesn't seem like enough
  50. Passenger Side Axle giving me problems

damn it I hate forcing things like this. I hope that does it. I'll try tomorrow. But yeah its from the tranny and I'm afraid to break stuff. Any other tips? If not, Ima just pry the shit out of this thing and hope it works.
