a good sign of the valve making contact with the piston is there would be fresh witness marks. the valve, if indeed is making contact with the piston, should have taken off a layer of carbon off the top, exposing clean metal.

It's very possible. I had dsm wiseman "steve" rebuild my bad ECU. He did an amazing job and even gave me a print up of all the work that was done to the board.I would have that ECU rebuilt asap, before more damage is done to the board and making the repair more costly.
