  1. Any Dsm's In Arkansas?

Mine will be getting some much needed down-time in the near future, otherwise I'm limited in the distance I can drive. Is there nothing local going on?
  2. porting on the head intake side.

Theoreticaly it would because you'd be shifting the powerband a tad higher, but I doubt you'd take immediate notice of it. You'd probably have to put pen to paper and do some mpg calc's to see it.Like Mr Peepes said, a good gasket match and a little knife edging would be your best bet. I...
  3. porting on the head intake side.

If you're going for fuel efficiency and not full on racing power, don't touch the intake side. With its stock size you'll get higher air velocity, and with its rough casting surface, you'll get more turbulance which will help mix the air/fuel. Both are good for torque, and torque is good for...
  4. My DSM in Sport Compact Car

Just wondering if you ever recieved your car care stuff. My green 1G was the selection in last years May issue (I think) and I never heard from them, and never recieved my stuff. In fact, I didn't even know it was in there untill a local club member alerted me to it.
  5. Any Dsm's In Arkansas?

Woot! The GST showed up yesterday evening! After a good scrubdown and a bit of leg stretching on some of these wonderful curvy roads, it seems a head gasket is still a priority. I was hoping the cooler temps and better gas (god bless the 93 octane pumps...) would make life easier, which it did...
  6. Any Dsm's In Arkansas?

Sounds good. Hopefully my car will be here this weekend (stupid transport company couldn't find anyone that wanted to haul out this way...). Sometime in the coming months I'll be swapping out the HG. Low budget Flepro just won't hold up to 16 psi...:barf:
  7. Any Dsm's In Arkansas?

Woohoo! Made it to Arkansas! Staying in Cotter right now. I've been driving around the area the past few days and noticed a few DSM's and an Evo. Also saw a 1G in Springdale as we were passing through. It was missing its hood...
  8. Any Dsm's In Arkansas?

Its official, we're moving to and settling down somewhere in the Mt. Home area. In two weeks actually. I'll probably see some of you around...;)
  9. testing/replacing FIAV

Sure, you can block it off. It'll run like crap, but you can do it. :nono:
  10. testing/replacing FIAV

Once you get the tb off and apart, you'll see two small ports on the lower section towards the end. One is for the IAC, the other is for the FIAV. You want to block the one that isn't for the IAC. If you're still not sure, search around for FIAV, there is a link to a picture in one of them that...
  11. testing/replacing FIAV

I'd also like to add that my fuel milage went up, coolant temps went down, and boost is more responsive. I just wish it didn't take me three years to find the problem!:beatentodeath:
  12. testing/replacing FIAV

Its fixed! My car now idles at a rock solid 1k rpm. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
  13. testing/replacing FIAV

I've got similar issues with my idle. At cold startup, it'll rev to 2k for a few seconds, then drop down into a surging idle untill it warms up. If I start it when its already warm, it idles fine. I just pulled the tb off and apart tonight and used JB weld to block off the hole in the bottom...
  14. Any Dsm's In Arkansas?

Oddly enough, we'll be temporarily be staying in the Mountain Home/Cotter area with my in-laws untill we can get our bearings. After that, it'll probably be off to Springdale (though Joplin seems to be an option at this time as well).I know there are lots of RV shops out there, but does...
  15. Import vs. Domestic

  16. 1G How I lowered my coolant temps 6 degrees!!!

I had some leftover header wrap laying around and wrapped that pipe when I rebuild my head. Couldn't tell you if it did any good, though I would like to think it did. :thumb:
  17. Any Dsm's In Arkansas?

I'm thinking about moving to Springdale next year. Anyone near there? Actually, if anyone is familiar with that area, give me a heads up, I've never been there...
  18. Timing Belt and Alignment Marks.

I have never been able to get the marks on the intake and exhaust cams to align, ever. The first time I replaced the belt at the 110k mark I could not get them to line up right, even with multiple tries. This weekend I tried again and again and again (and again) with a new belt after rebuilding...
  19. 2G Idle Control System Malfunction P0505

I know this is an old thread, but I recently had some experience that might shed a little light on the subject...I had my head rebuild last week, and when it came time to put it all back together, I decided that because I live in Arizona I didn't need the coolant lines that run through the...
  20. 1G How I lowered my coolant temps 6 degrees!!!

It looks alot better now. The pics were mid-construction. Hopefully I'll get around to painting it this summer.btw: When you put holes in your hood, be it a bolt on scoop or whatever, be sure and put it far enough foreward so that if you wash it or it gets rained on, the water won't fill up...
  21. pcv removal idea...

The only problems I could see because of the higher crank case pressure would be...1. Blowing the dip stick out. 2. Blowing oil into the combustion chamber if the rings aren't in the best of shape, or possibly blowing seals. What you may want to try before you ditch the pcv is to clean...
  22. 1G How I lowered my coolant temps 6 degrees!!!

    Here's how I got cooler temps...http://az2gnt.net/hosted/Itworks/index.html
  23. no data coming up on logger...

Did you by chance replace the batteries since you last used the logger? If so, did you put your user number back in? It won't work without it! I fought like crazy for an hour or so trying to get it to work before I realised what the prob was...
  24. valve spring compressing problem, help needed asap

Haha...I built one like that a few years ago as well! Sometimes its the simple things that work best, eh? :thumb:Matco makes a compressor made for the ohc engines, and it runs about $80.
  25. New Headliner

Look in the yellow pages for someplace that deals in automotive upholstry supplies, or even an upholstry shop will sell it to you if its more convienient for you. The sunvisors are something that you will have to have done by a pro to look even halfway decent as they have to be sewn together. I...
  26. New Headliner

Actually I had thought about putting flames on there, but seeing as how the rest of my car is pretty low key, it would have looked out of place. If I had to do it again though, I would spin the star 180 degrees and make it a bit bigger. As far as materials go, I got 2 yards of headliner with...
  27. New Headliner

These are a little better I think...
  28. New Headliner

With my phone, I'm lucky that pic came out as good as it did. I may sit it in the sun tommorow before I install it and see if I can't get a better one.:thumb:
  29. New Headliner

So what do you think? Sorry for the crappy cellphone pic...
  30. Clutch Fork Question

I had to shim mine after I had the flywheel turned. The whole idea is to keep the arm centered in the window when the tranny is bolted back onto the block with the clutch and pp in place. Unfortunatley the only way to really know if you need to do it or not is to bolt the tranny back up. Before...
  31. NOPI Race and Car Show - Phoenix 3/19-20

No thanks, if I want to go look at ricers I'll cruise through my local high school parking lot.
  32. Import vs. Domestic

Now before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, yes I know DSM's are made in America, but to everyonce else we are still considered to be an import. Deal with it. This thread is not about who's better or faster blah blah blah etc etc. I want to know what you guys think of domestics (mainly...
  33. Speedometer Shop

Try Dick's Speedo and Tach. They have a location near downtown Phoenix, and I think one in Mesa somewhere. I've used them several times for calibration and repair, and I'm pretty sure they have the capability to do damn near anything (legal) that you need.
  34. metal clips on injector harness?

You mean the little retainer clips the hold the plug to the injector? If so, I lost one of mine about a year and a half ago and never got around to replacing it! Its never fallen off, though I do check once in a while if I happen to be under the hood and its always nice and tight. I imagine it...
  35. A question about the Evo III manifold

After getting a chance to drive it more today, the butt dyno is telling me I've lost some of the top end power that I had with the tubular header. Maybe not alot, but enough to be noticable. However, I would trade power for reliability any day. I'm so sick of welding on that pos that I could :barf:
  36. Driver Side Axle

Here's a trick if your really desperate and broke (don't ask!). Loosen the big nut on the end a couple of threads, then reinstall the pin. Drive around the block. Jack it up and see if its loose. Repeat as necesary. It will work its way loose eventually, but like I said, its only for the...
  37. Weird Custom Exhaust???

Yup. The law requires your exhaust terminate no closer than 18" behind the passenger compartment. How well they inforce that law is a different matter entirely. Personally though, I don't like the smell of toxic fumes wafting up inside the car. And you will probably notice a bit less power with...
  38. engine clicking

It could be your lifters. They are pretty well known for being noisy bastards. Mine make noise off and on, and always have. :notgood: You might try some of Lucas' Oil Stabilizer. I'l throw some in every other oil change and it seems to keep them quiet for a while.
  39. Checking this gauge light ( No not the radiator light)

Yeah that looks like washer fluid to me also. :thumb:
  40. Still some unanswered questions

Go check out vfaq.com and look to see where they recommend to hook up the boost gauge. I'd tell you exactly where, but I might confuse you. It'd be best to read it yourself.
  41. A question about the Evo III manifold

Here's the before with the new 7cm gasket sitting on top...And here's the after. I could have gone a little further to smooth it out but I don't think its going to hurt anything the way it is...And here's everything put back together...
  42. A question about the Evo III manifold

So here it is after I ported it out. I didn't do the "full race" port, just a port match and some cleaning up in the runners.I'll have some of the turbo housing's "before and after" soon...
  43. A question about the Evo III manifold

Well I got it on pretty much hassle free. I'm pretty happy with it now that I got it ported out. I'll post pics as soon as I can find a better host for them... :barf: All in all I would say its a good deal and a quality part. It looks alot like the stock one so if you didn't know, you wouldn't...
  44. A question about the Evo III manifold

I picked it up from UPS today. It looks to be a good quality piece. However, though the ad on ebay says ported, it is not. Their version has a big 7cm outlet, but it was made that way, not ported to that size. It did come with new hardware and good gaskets. You can see how much...
  45. A question about the Evo III manifold

I'll let you know this weekend how it goes. I will be installing one Saturday.
  46. EGR Blockoff Discussion [Merged 8-8]

This may seem a little off-track, with all the egr valve removal pro's and con's, but allow me to refer back to the original post if I may...As far as the engineers are concerned with all their r&d work and millions of dollars poured into research, we aren't as smart as them, thats true to a...
  47. suspicous E-Mail about my turbo kit

I wouldn't be so shocked. Not everyone in this world speaks "Americanese" properly, or at all!
  48. Comments on this tubular header.

Amen to that one. I've had my Pacesetter off probably 6 times. The last leak I developed I just left it on with the car running and kept welding untill I couldn't hear the leak anymore. I'm currently hunting down a ported 2g unit...
  49. General Very lean at idle

My a/c will kick out if the engine reaches a low rpm as well. If I pick the rpm's up a tad it will quit. I don't really think that is a major issue...
  50. a turbo without an intercooler?

The only problem I can see would be running out of water! That, and I can't seem to find the good washer fluid around here. I keep seeing the environmentaly freindly crap. However, a trip to Ace Hardware scored me some denatured alcohol.
