  1. Will J-B weld hold 20 psi?

I've seen grounding straps in the military that were made of steel bonded (might not be "welded", but the joint did look like a weld) to aluminum. Stuff that's been around since the early 70's. Used for grounding aluminum ladders to steel decks on ships, without having to worry about...
  2. Big T28 dyno sheets

For spool time on the big T28, I run one on my daily driven A-B Eclipse with Automatic and only have it set at 14psi. It'll reach 14psi at 2500rpm which is more than fast enough for me and the slow shifting/unpredictable automatic. As a comparison, the original T25 would hit 14psi in the same...
  3. Bad Turbo?

Last time I saw those symptoms (my own car, original T25), after taking the turbo out of the car it was very obvious that the turbine wheel had snapped cleanly off the shaft and was bouncing around in the O2 housing.
  4. Can a GSX be Drifted?

Does that mean my favorite racing to watch (Rally Racing) is raced by a bunch of ghetto racers? Proper application of the e-brake is standard procedure for forcing the rear end around on an all wheel drive Rally car taking a hairpin corner.
  5. Psi=hp

A t25 will make 20psi+ of superheated air easily as long as the engine is below about 3500rpm.
  6. compression and boost

Raising the static compression ratio only gives you a small increase in power by squishing the air/fuel mixture more...raising the boost gives you more power by putting more air/fuel in the cylinder to be squished.Obviously having more air/fuel in the cylinder is going to give a greater...
  7. when are safe from crank walking

very true...I've experience crank walk in my Mustang's 351W. I could only tell because the oil pressure would drop when I romped on the gas.
  8. what is max boost for evo iii 16g w/ stock injectors?

I'm running lean above 6K rpm with a T28 @ 15psi and stock exhaust...I bet your results will vary and you should just datalog and set your boost accordingly.
  9. how high does your boost spike, where does it fall of to?

ported FP Big T28, ported 02 housing, spikes to 15psi falls off to 15psi, Ric Gillis ball and spring boost controller. Basically, I've never had a problem with spike using a ball&spring type boost controller.
  10. Honda with 4G63?

Just thought I'd point out that all the Honda motors I know of have floating cylinders and are pretty much maxxed out for block strength somewhere below 400hp at the crank. One guy I used to talk to on a Honday forum slowly worked his Integra up to 427whp in a process of breaking 4 blocks and...
  11. Name that turbo!!!!!!!

could be wrong, but it looks like the Chrysler/Dodge Turbo II exhaust side.
  12. Fuel Cut: What is it? How do I fix it? [merged]

It could be something like I ran into when I first bought my '96 GST. I would experience the equivalent of fuel cut only when making left hand turns when it was cold out. I never could figure it out, but when I replaced the fuel pump with a new Walbro, the problem "went away". I believe I'd...
  13. 195hp 305 torque??? impossible right?

Look at TurboFord dyno numbers too...I've seen them with ~250hp and >350ft/lb tq. If the engine is cammed for a low rpm peak HP then the torque can be very high at low rpm with enough boost.Heat soak on the intercooler can greatly affect the torque numbers too. I've found that with the...
  14. t25?

The T25 and T28 are practically identical and exactly identical in e. The big difference you can see is the wall thickness of the compressor inlet. The T28 inlet looks like a bored out T25 inlet.Yours looks very much like a T25.
  15. t28 or 16g for spyder gst wanting 13's

gotta agree there too...I'm driving a GST automatic with a T28 and love it, but I have to watch it on the gas and don't foresee the front tires lasting very long. It's either wheelhop or all out tire smoke below 40mph and that's only at 15psi and with an automatic transmission.
  16. T-25 to T-28 compressor wheel swap...

At a minimum all the pieces will need to go to a turbo shop to have the compressor housing machined to fit the new wheel. The turbo shop can give you the final answer on whether it will work or not.
  17. Underdrive pulleys [ merged 1/6/07]

Underdrive pulleys just spin the accessories slower, like the alternator, A/C, and maybe the water pump. It just reduces the HP required to spin these parts by turning them slower. The problems you "may" run into are poor charging at idle or overheating due to poor water circulation. I don't...
  18. 6psi gain after BOV mod?

And quit letting that poor little T25 run above 16psi on your BONE STOCK GST!When I first replaced my factory BOV with a 1G BOV, I experienced the same thing...my boost controller was set at over 20psi and the factory BOV was just leaking at anything above 14psi...The boost guage pegged at...
  19. Could use boost gauge help and info

vac= vacuum ... it's measuring air pressure below atmospheric pressure.vacuum in an engine corresponds to the engine wanting more air than it can get through the throttle body. 0" vacuum is usually what you'll see when the throttle body is wide open and letting all the air in that the...
  20. Fuel Filter Replacement on 2g Turbo

    EXACTLY the right description :)
  21. 255hp lph w/out regulator

IT's not that you'll run rich, you'll actually run lean!I've datalogged mine many times with the Walbro 255HP fuel pump and what happens is your fuel pressure at idle and low loads is higher than it should be. The computer will lean out the mixture using the long term fuel trim setting to...
  22. Gst launch techniques????

Been there on that one...I lined up against a bone stock GSX once at a light right next to work. We were headed to the same left turn since he worked in the building next to where I worked. He got about 3 car lengths on me just launching and there was not enough distance for me to catch back...
  23. boost gauge not reading what it suppose to

With the boost guage connected at the turbo, there is absolutely no way for it to ever read vacuum, and you won't be seeing the true boost in the manifold either.
  24. Lower intake temps 3-4C, how much honest HP?

For every 10 degrees F drop in intake air temp, you gain about 1% in HP. Going by that, a 300HP engine may gain ~3hp with a 10 degree drop in intake temp.BTW, A/C intercooling does work, and works well. One problem I've heard of is that if the freon leaks into the intake, it becomes...
  25. Gst launch techniques????

When I had a T25 turbo @ 16psi, I had decent launches leaving the line at 12psi & about 2400rpm up against the torque converter....anything more and it was all tire smoke, anything less and it just didn't leave the line quick enough.
  26. Fuel Filter Replacement on 2g Turbo

I used a 1/2" impact driver to break the top nut loose...I had removed the fuel filter with the top fuel line disconnected at the fuel rail so it was out of the car and easy to work with. It still was one of the most difficult things I've done on a car in a long time...right on par with...
  27. New to me, BCS Mod

ghetto boost controller means you go to a pet store and buy a plastic fish tank valve, or go to home depot and buy a 3/8" brass valve and install it in place of the BCS to allow an adjustable full time bleed of the boost to the wastgate.Basically a very cheap and effective way to adjust...
  28. how much do new NGK plugs go for

I ahve to order them from Napa....it's either that or get them in stock from Schucks for $7.50 each!!!
  29. crank pressure

BTW, the PCV valve does not do anything when there is less than 0" of vacuum! If the engine is being spun to 8500rpm, I'm sure there's either 0" vacuum or XX psi boost and thus no PCV function. This leaves the same two possibilities though...Bad PCV valve leaking boost into the crankcase...
  30. boost question

If you don't want to wait until you have an MBC...locate your stock BCS (Boost Control Solenoid), take it out, remove the plastic plug from insude the lower fitting, reinstall it as it was. This will give you 14psi and you'll notice the difference.I wouldn't bother going beyond that without...
  31. Wtf Is Going On Here!?!??!!?

I took it to a Mitsu dealer the second time I had the problem...I replaced the plugs and the problem only got worse so I took it to the dealer. THEY REPLACED THE PLUGS AND WIRES and gave it back to me running great!!!
  32. Oil Pressure Gauge

I used to worry about mine because it is almost at the bottom at idle and never gets past the middle line driving. I tested pressure with a mechanical guage and got 20psi at idle and >90psi at 5K rpm. I've done everything I can think of short of replacing the oil pressure sending unit and the...
  33. The GST,GSX Engine. Can it fit in anything else?

Heard of 'em in both Hyundai's and Mirage's...if it weren't for all the other cars they fit in being so ugly I'd be willing to do the swap, but I think they are best right were they are found in the first place...It's tempting to swap a N/A 4G64 into my girlfriend's Mirage when her 1.5L dies...
  34. Merkur XR4Ti turbo

The Merkur T03 is good to about 24psi on the restrictive headed 2.3L Ford and will support between 280 and 300hp at the flywheel. As for spoolup, on the super restrictive head of a 2.3L Ford, with an MBC boost started coming on at ~2500rpm and I saw 16psi @ 2800rpm. Later I ran the T3 .63 hot...
  35. Cylinder sleeves, sleeve, sleeving [Merged 9-7] block bore cylinder

They sleeve iron blocks and it does not retract from the strength...if anything it ensures a more uniform wall thickness on the particular bore that has been sleeved. A friend of mine scored a 2.6L Cologne V6 (German built Ford block) block while installing the pistons and getting it sleeved...
  36. t-3 turbo

That sounds like a pretty tiny T3...the stock SVO/Turbo Coupe T3 turbo is a .63 hot / .60 cold and is pretty much at it's limits around 280-300hp at the flywheel...other than being pretty efficiant to ~24psi is still basically only a minor upgrade from a T25.Really, the information you've...
  37. can i hook up my boost controller like this?

Not lag actually...you'll see a boost spike due to slowed reaction of the wastegate.I've gat a ball/spring MBC in the cockpit right now and see very minimal spike, but I used 5/16" diameter poly line which isn't very restrictive. The only reason mine is in the cockpit is because I tried...
  38. This is jacked !

Roll the front wheels onto short ramps or blocks of wood, then jack it up...I used to drive a Mustang that I had to jack up by the front bumper and use a jack stand to hold it before moving the floor jack to the front crossmember.
  39. GSX, GST lacking a turbo

When my T25's shaft broke it felt like I had about 50hp...it was significantly slower than my girlfriend's '94 Mirage 1.5L automatic.
  40. How to shift...? Advice?

Eclipse: Foot to the floor, let the AUTO do the work (launch @ 12psi, never drops a hair below 15psi all the way to the end of the track...turbo+auto works soooo well) 351W Mustang: Granny shift, slow and easy 5.0L Mustang: Foot to the floor, pray the T-5 and 8" rear hold up 2.3L Turbo...
  41. Dont have a DSM..yet Datalogging multi-user!

correct, record only. Just a tuning tool to let you know what's going on with your EFI.The Tweecer and EEC-Tuner both do it for the 5.0L Mustang, but both those also allow you to tune.
  42. Fast spooling..why though?

Fast spoolup = more low end torque. If you drive a 4-cyl turbo around daily you'll find a lack of throttle response and torque in the low end (unlike a V8 Mustang). Drive a 4-cyl auto w/turbo around and you'll really find a need for fast spoolup. Really, if you dig around on this site, you'll...
  43. Compression Ratio Changes with Cams

No answer for you, but I'll back up the fact that static compression does change with cams.I have an 11:1 compression 351W in one of my Mustangs and when I first put it together I had too mild of a cam and 225psi of static compression. Changing to a special grind cam with not much more...
  44. T3/T4 hybrid ball-bearing setup

The 57 trim T3/T4 hybrid is a dime-a-dozen turbo...the only thing that may justify the price there is the wet ball bearing center. I know a guy that sells the T3 stage III / T4 57trim hybrid for $350 new.
  45. Fuel Cut: What is it? How do I fix it? [merged]

Now that's some scary damage...definately lean.I didn't realize the Iridium plugs had the tiny tips like Platinum plugs...definately a bad thing. The small tips get hot and promote detonation.
  46. too many ideas-swaps/turbos-trying to make 400whp

To get a 50 trim spooled around 3K rpm, I'd go with a full Garrett setup with a Stage III turbine wheel instead of the Stage V I always see come with kits for the DSM's. 3" exhaust all the way out, and a tube header before the turbo. This combo has worked quite well on 2.3L Fords that'll be...
  47. 2g 4G63 fuel filter location.

I'd have to say it took me about 5 hours to change mine...the dealer wanted $100 so I decided to do it myself. The battery and battery tray has to come out. The lines on the filter seemed welded on so I had to take the charcoal canister out, just to get a pair of wrenches on the bottom of...
  48. is there any performance gain with a spring loaded MBC vs. a regular

What other types are you looking at? The types I know are:Ball and Spring: little/no boost spike, good control over boost level, quicker spoolup due to leaving the wastegate closed longer, boost level limited by the strength of the spring, cheap to make yourself ... prive varies from $15 -...
  49. Are these problems common?

The older Chrysler and Ford defrost settings I've dealt with run the A/C to dry the air when defrosting, but my '96 GST does not do this. I actually had expected it to and would think they must've changed that feature for the '97.Your owner's manual should tell you how it should operate.
