Threw a rod at the track back in November :( No idea what caused it. Guessing either over-boost, or ran too lean. I went out in a blaze of glory at the 1/4 finish line. Felt like the fastest run I had ever had, so I'm guessing my novice tuning adjustments that day were the cause.Weather...
I'd check first if its the cable or the speedo sensor, if you can.I purchased my replacement cable, here:
https://www.rtmracing.com/xcart/product.php?productid=17484 or
https://machv.com/products/1g-dsm-speedometer-cableI got a new speedo sensor from performancepartouts.com, used. Its not...
That sounds like your speedometer cable, and/or the speedo gear. I had the identical problem, and it turned out that my cable seized up and ripped out of the transmission. Replacing both fixed the problem.92 Talon TSIAWD - CodeName VADER . (picture of my busted cable)
Check all you pipes from the turbo to the IC , and over to the throttle body elbow. I just had a similar symptom, and it turned out that my FMIC intake pipe clamp broke an the pipe blew off. The car would start, run with a horrible idle then die a few seconds later. Stepping on the gas raised...
I did already have the antilag configured. My issue ended up being related to that, coincidently. Since my speedometer cable was broken, the computer was reading my speed as 0 mph, which caused the antilag to kick in all the time, and limit me from ever getting above the set limit. Just...
Here's an image of my cable:
The speedometer gear housing is also broken, not sure if it was ripped out and broke or was broken prior to the cable breaking. The cable is pretty solid, so I'm assuming it was ripped out.
Looking for a hand troubleshooting my issue.I got my A/C functioning the other day, but since I purchased the car, the air has never blown out of the vents very hard. No matter what setting the fan is set to, or if its set to hot or cold, outside air or set to recirculate, or floor, dash, or...
Finally got to hooking up ECM Link to the car yesterday. This was my view into the world of tuning. Little did I know, there's a launch RPM limit feature that I was not taking advantage of during my test and tune attempts. I'm guessing that will help dramatically lower my times.Another...
Yeah, theres no easy method to removing the filter without having to move some hoses and/or wrestle the filter can out. I typically remove the BOV housing pipe from the filter can, and then disconnect a few hoses and disconnect the intake pipe from the turbo inlet and snake out the entire...
I recently had a boost leak coming from my throttle body O-Rings, so ended up taking the throttle body off, replacing the o-rings, using new throttle body gaskets, and cleaning everything along the way. In retrospect, I'd suggest to anyone that if you're going to be removing your throttle body...
VADER attending his first test and tune event at the local drag strip this past weekend.I was happy with a 1/4 mile time of 12.5, considering I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
This past week, I was lucky enough to find an OEM muffler on amazon (used) for $20 bucks. Although when it arrived, it really does look brand new. So now that I've got a downpipe and a muffler, all I should need is a cat, intermediate pipe and some random pipe and reducing couplings to get...
Wheels! So as I've been replacing my CV axles, I've been testing out some different paints to refurbish my wheels. So far, I've had no luck in finding a silver color that matches the factory color. Each time it just looks cheesy and obvious that I painted my wheels, and thats not the look I'm...
Quick update on my headliner project. I was able to find some identical headliner fabric at JoAnns Fabric store, on sale for 12 bucks. I also did end using the 3M 38808 Adhesive. Here are some pics of the process and end result. One trick I did find useful was to use a clean paint roller to...
Spent a good few hours watching some youtube content and reading a few other build threads yesterday. I'm having the internal battle with myself to determine where I want to be with this car in the short term. I want it to be a daily driver to offset mileage on my jeep, but since the A/C...
Took a stab this weekend at stripping and repainting one of the wheels. After using paint stripper and sanding down what was remaining, I sprayed a few coats of primer, and then a few coats of paint and some clear coat. This was a very time consuming process. Not looking forward to the other...
Check the outmost bolt holes. If they are larger than the holes on the inside, its a good chance its a 2G manifold. If they are all the same size, its a 1G. There are a few threads on here describing folks who used washers to compensate for the larger holes to add the 2G manifold to their 1G DSM.
Boost problems solved! The rest of my parts came in this week, which allowed me to replace the throttle body shaft seals, and just do a thorough cleaning of the TB. Also replaced the TB gaskets. Re-ran a BLT, and now we can easily get a solid amount of pressure built up, without it leaking...
+! to the BLT. I'm working through the exact same issues, described on my build journal. I've replaced a few seals that were hard as a rock, and my problems have went away.
It was a perfect holiday weekend to work on the Talon. Well, perfect to work on the car, but not perfect to expect a quick turnaround from ordering parts online. After building a boost leak tester from scratch, I was quickly able to identify a few different places where we were leaking. Right...
INTRODUCTION, TABLE OF CONTENTSI have been keeping an eye out for a 1G DSM in good condition, that runs fairly well, and didn't have the interior all chopped apart. I wanted the car to look like my first DSM back in college in the early 2000's. So this past weekend, I found a 94 Eagle Talon...
I just picked this car up from a seller in Orlando and drove it home to Maryland. The car was quicker than expected, but it was very apparent that there is a leak somewhere causing the car to stutter once the boost level starts to rise (according to the stock boost gauge). I removed the heat...
I am planning on replacing a cracked exhaust manifold, and figured I'd upgrade my turbo in the process.EBay has "kits" which include manifolds and turbos for around 400 bucks...
Hello,Can I get a confirmation that the turbo in the pic is indeed a 14b ? This is currently on my 94 Eagle Talon TSI AWD, that I have recently purchased. Also looking for any resources describing a 14b to 16g upgrade.Thx!
