I did the same thing to my 99 get and it threw the same codes. I dealt with it for awhile but I finally just hooked the sensors back up behind the radio. And they haven't came back up since.
Have you tried calling the performance factory in concord? Im not sure if they do it or not, I just know there a pretty big shop. Just throwing suggestions out there. Haha
@pauleyman It's a split thrust 7 bolt block.@boostdawd yeah I have the head back off, I can't visually see any cracks. But when I did the leak down test you couldnt hear the air coming from the intake or anything other than just right over the top into cylinder 1 plug.
@kmetiuk I didn't have a sanding block but used a plastic scraper instead. I have a Hyundai head that I know is good, Im thinking of using that and chase the threads like you was talking about.
So the valves are fine and the piston rings are fine. But all im hearing is air from the spark plug hole when I do the leak down test. I know it's not the tester because I used it on the other cylinders and it didn't do it. Just on number one. So in gonna take the head off tomorrow and get it...
I've done many headgasket jobs on these cars so I know that was installed right. And I check the head surface and it was well within spec. The only thing I didn't look at was the valves because everything looked like it was just a hg. so I guess in gonna do the leak down test tomorrow and finish...
Well if you do have enough time then that would be cool, if not it's okay. HahaNo it had a composite on it and I put a new felpro composite back on. I don't really like putting a MLS on unless everything is 100% flat.See thats what I was looking for when I first lifted the head off and...
Yeah it was good too. That's what I don't understand right now. @91talonts1 if you wasn't 3 hours away from me I'd ask you to come look in person. Haha
Coolant is disappearing faster now and the #1 spark plug is covered in oil. Also there is white smoke coming from the exhaust and when you open the oil cap. Then I looked at the exhaust manifold and found oil forming to the top of it through a crack I didn't see before, and around runner #1 is...
Yeah see I would have done that in the first place but cant afford that and a air compressor sadly. I've always wanted one though.im gonna try and find the time today and take the head back off.
Just checked it with a straight edge and a feeler gauge. The surface was in spec. I guess I'll pull the head again and double check the valves. BC like in the pic above the exhaust valves on cylinder 1 look rougher then the rest of the valves.
How is I see if it's the valve stem seals? Because I know now it could be the piston rings/bore or valve stem seals. I forgot to mention I used water to test the valves seating. It passed on that. So all I can figure is it could be those two things. But I have no clue how to check either one.
So guys the head gasket didn't fix it. #1 cylinder is up from 0 to 10 now. Woooow. Ha but every other cylinder was the same.
I did a wet compression test and this is what I got.
#1 60
#2 185
#3 159
#4 190
Okay awsome thanks! So now in looking here on a page for torquing stock head bolts. It says torque them to 58lbs then lossen all them up and torque them to 15lbs. Why is it 15?
And the coolant disappeares instantly if you go up the road a mile and back. But it's not leaking at idle and no smoke while driving. I did notice when I took the oil cap off there was smoke coming out of it.
Yeah it's weird it runs ruff when there's no coolant in it, but with the coolant all the way full it's kinda okay. I know it's not good either way.
I plan on taking a flat edge and a feeler gauge to check the head and block before I put it back together. In hoping it's all okay so I can have it...
Yeah the car sat for a year before I got it, so that could be it. I'll try the vinegar and see what it does for sure. That's what my plan is for now, I just ordered a felpro head gasket and head bolt set. Should be here tomorrow hopefully. It doesn't over heat or anything just loses coolant...
Okay so I went into this car not knowing if it ran or not. It's a 99 Spyder GST 5speed 230k. I had to put a turbo on the car because it didn't come with one (t25).
So I went to go out coolant in it and burp the system, when I noticed as soon as I pour water in it you can see it slowly mixing...
Lol finally a small world for DSM owners in NC. I had a 2g na Spyder but I was just learning about dsms. We should all meet up this summer for lunch or something and cruise.
ROFL 08-09 I was in middle school. Yeah I always wished that they're was more DSM meet ups. I think it would be very cool and bring more people like us together if we had stuff like that again.
Yeah it turns out that the previous owner did a cop set up and tapped into the ptu wiresthen removed it. Well he did a half *** job putting the wires back together.
So I picked this 99 Spyder up and it's been running fine. Then the other day I went out to start it and it's running only on 2-3 tach is sitting on 0. I've replaced coil pack, ptu and the ECU along with CAS.. I've tried swapping the wires and still the same thing. I have no clue what could be...
Mines doing the same thing, it idles terrible too. So was my buddy's talon and I used his maf and mine was running exactly like his. After like 3k it would run okay. So did the maf fix yours?
