Need some ideas guys.Car starts after 2 or 3 cranks every time and jumps to usual 1k rm, but immediately drops to 200ish rpm and almost dies then jumps right back up to normal idle (1000 rpm cold, 800 warm) I refer to it as a stumble.
Car does this on cold and hot starts.
Can't remember when...
I tried OP 2.0 to log EvoScan to no avail... The program recognizes the cable and starts to read, but spits back "Unable to communicate with ECU"Checked:
OBDII Voltage at each pin
Grounds
Reflash Connector Pin
Drivers (Shows device connected and functioning)
Etc... etc..I just get "Init...
For the FPR, 2g turbo fuel pressure is 43.5 baseline +- a point or so. With the car running, pull the vacuum line and put your finger over the regulator nipple and set it to 43.5psi (3 Bar). Then put the vacuum hose back on and it should drop a bit.
As for the BOV, definitely recirculate until...
I'm losing my mind trying to get my Ecuflash to read my '99 GSX. I read and wrote to it about a year ago, and now it won't do either. Same computer!
Here is the log:Reflash connector is plugged in, tactrix cable lights up, drivers are updated. I uninstalled, reinstalled, etc... I thought it...
Hey spyder, thanks for chiming in. I changed most of what you listed already. Solution was actually found in a separate but related issue I had.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/whats-this-noise.512590/#post-153652613My new Valve cover didnt have a PCV, and the nipple was too large. Without...
Its the PCV system! Pull the tube going to the intake and poof, its gone! Now i have to figure out how to plumb a proper catch can setup... its definitely whats screwing with my idle too.Attached is a pic from tnight. Filthy but happy because she got a black leather interior swap nearly completed.
I work till 5, then I will investigate further. Any idea why it only does it when warmed up after about 20 min? Last I checked I was getting -20ish for vacuum at the IM during idle conditions.I'll report back later on my findings.
Thanks for the input, I can check it tomorrow. I have a check valve hooked up inline with the PCV though, and my little catch can is routed from the valve cover to the intake pipe. It also only does this at idle (750-1400 RPM in my case) , and fades with RPM.
I know there have been a million threads on high idle, but I can't seem to pinpoint mineCan someone point to the likely culprit so that Im not on a total wild goose chase? I've done a boost leak test, sprayed for leaks around IM, loosened throttle cable, and checked Vacuum lines.Another...
Not sure what this noise is. Only does it when warm. Cant tell if coming from engime, timing side or turbo. I have gotten a few puffs of smoke lately, but searching "dieing turbo" this sound never showed up.
Alternator replaced. So its not that.
112k stock motor with recent timing side. All...
There has to be something on there to tune for that fuel, or the guys an idiot. Get a compression test done too btw. Most any online retailer will have the couplers. Even Amazon can probably 2-say ship them for you ;PAs for tuning, whats the build date on the car? If you look at your ecu and...
There are many threads out there on built motors... search "built motor" and you'll find everything you need to know. I think in general, people swap 6 bolts in or use the 98-99 longblock; both with forged rods and pistons for those power levels. I think plenty have made the 95-96 bolts work...
You have to be patient and find someone like me who is parting out a good shape 127k mile 99 gsx (no title :( ). 99 part-outs are less popular, as cars from that year are usually worth investing in to keep running. (last year made, and arguably the best)
Also, you can usually tell the difference...
Years? No. Just models.
Front wheel drivers only had single piston calipers up front. (Awd 2 piston calipers swap right on) Other than that, i think theyre all about the same.It may be noted that the late 98 to 99 cars had a flashable evo-like ecu known as the "black-box". 95s had an "eprom"...
7 bolts have better exhaust manifolds, intakes, MAF, and a few other things. My understanding is the 7 bolt has stronger pistons, but weaker rods. Both are good to 400+ hp with a headgasket and studs. All year 7 bolts are the same potential i believe.
Forgot to answer your original question... if your 6 bolt swapping, then any 2g will do. Options are up to you. No sunroof cars, with cloth and no power seats are lightest. Spyders are heaviest.
Auto vs manual is your preference.
Youre going to be blowing the tires off at those horsepower levels... and likely your transmission differential. A built trans will be a must. Maybe a high horsepower FWDer can chime in. Granted an AWD trans at those levels will be at risk too.I think the AWD is alot of the DSMs appeal, and...
The late 98 and 99 motors have a "split-thrust bearing design" and some minor oiling change, which from what ive seen, does infact prevent crankwalk. (Search why crankwalk occurs) The crankwalk scare is a bit overrated, but ive seen it in person. Onset typically occurs on 95-97 7bolts when a...
MD762043 is the 97-99 part number. I know because i pulled one out of my 99 yesterday. A quick search of that part number consistently says its 97-99. So I'm thinking they're different.
I have the threaded rod, but not the other two. I should be able to get by with ziptieing the belt if my dumbass can manage to use a straightedge to double check the cams are lined up after tensioning.
I just calibrated it a few days ago in open air. guage shows proper 22.4 before startup.
Thanks for the idea though! Now i cant wait to get out of work so I can go fix my timing haha.
Okay I will check that too, for some reason when I started it yesterday (it still ran like crap obviously), but it only reads 16.5 AFR now, not 22. Maybe I had a clogged injector from sitting. I'd clean them, but I have a set of 850's going in as soon as I get her running ;)
I will redo it tomorrow. ive disassembled the timing side again and will attempt to time it again. Hopefully i didnt cause any damage. I didn't hear any valve on piston action... ill compression test afterwards to make sure Its still 178.
Good chance my mechanical timing is off. I cant tell you how many times i redid it till i thought it was right.I have a pencil in there to find tdc and the other marks line up. Both marks seem to angle up a bit, but thats just how they fall.
Im sure most of you can tell me in an instant if its...
One thing i forgot to check was manifold flange flatness. I think it was okay though. A guy had ran it previously for 3k miles. The egr blockoff plate has a new gasket and both surfaces were clean. The battery was connected... because i hadnt started any teardown yet, just intercoooler...
Plug wires are correct. Mechanical timing is good. All marks line up.If i hold it at 1400rpm it seems smooth, but afr stays pegged lean at 22
How does electronic timing get off?Its weird to me that theres no code.
Hi guys... my lc2 seems to be hooked up right i think? but my car wont run right. Background:
Ran great before winter. Over winter;
16g installed w/tubular manifold.
Lc2 installed and running narrowband to stock o2 pinout.
Vrsf intercooler installed
Complete timing side redone.
Emissions/EGR...
Side note. Since I hadnt started anything but the front mount, the battery was still connected -.- ... so I blew about 7 fuses, which I replaced. Any chance I damaged the ECU? My downpipe isnt 100% connected , so it just smells like fumes/gas.I'll definitely check plugs in the morning.
I forgot I DID modify my wiring harness loom by the left rad support with a drill bit... I was so pissed. ( I had it ziptied away, but it snapped and I didnt see that it had moved back in its originally position more or less)I soldered all wires and wrapped them back up. Everything works fine...
I am not running ECMlink. That's why I said I've searched, but all the info is for ECMlink. I'm using the 99 ecu with evoscan/ecuflash.To your point sharp... thats what I thought. Ive been able to run cars okay with o2 sensors or even mafs unplugged before in idle or very low throttle...
Hi guys; yes Ive searched and read all the topics related to LC2 install, but most deal with ECMlink sim.Im running a 99 with Wideband O2 in stock front location; and I believe I have it hooked up right.Red = Power
Black = Ground;
Yellow = Wideband Output - I hooked to gauge and will soon to...
Good find!
