Awesome info! I am under taking the process of repainting my talon in the near future and you guys are always helpful with the resources and suppliers!
Im pretty sure that it is just a universal term for the bits in front of the interior. The gauge cluster and instruments are included when people say "the dash". Yes, technically the dashboard is the part that covers all of that under the windshield, but getting nit-picky when people know what...
Possible exhaust leak. Since you have no cat or muffler, it wouldnt be easy to hear an exhaust leak over the sound of an exhaust with no muffler.
Where is the smoke coming from? Front of the car? Out the tail pipe? Under the car? Since you said it happens at idle, fire it up and walk around the...
It will run fine. You will need to short the neutral bypass switch on the harness so the car will start though. If it isnt bypassed, the car will think it is in Drive and wont start.
What a PITA. Ive never pulled JUST a FWD engine without the trans. Never again. I had to remove all of the accessories to have enough room to get the flex plate to clear the trans. I unbolted the flywheel/clutch from the flex plate, which was fun... I bought the crysler crank pully puller which...
I still have a bunch of turbo parts from my rotting 86 TurboZ CS.
I was highly active on T-M.com many many years ago. Same user name.
The 2.4 going in my Talon was originally going in my 91 Shadow.. Then the 86 after the Shadow was sold, but the Daytona is too full of body rot. It currently...
I also had a 3rd gen GS, also a 96 GST..Did you not read the thread? Why would he need to swap the sensors if he is USING the 2.4l sensors? He basically took the 2.4 as it sits, sensors, injectors, and all, and plopped it in, plugged the 2.0 harness up to it and turned the key.
It is just three bolts and a few plugs. Right in the drivers side foot well of the center console.. extra work to make sure it is the correct ecu for the engine...?
Stop chasing sensors and SWAP THE ECU. The 2.0 ecu still thinks the engine is a 2.0! It has no map for the 2.4Why is this, the most obvious solution, being ignored?
6 bolt 90-92.5ish (I do not remember exactly when they changed. The 6 bolt was only found on 1ga and early 1gb body cars)... 7 bolt 92.5ish-99
There are visual differences, but the easiest way is to look at the flywheel and count the bolts.
Lets not over look the obvious that you are
1) using a 2.4 SOHC in place of a 2.0 DOHC.
2) using the sensors and ECU from the 2.0 DOHC to try and run a larger engine with one less cam.
3) using a larger engine with sensors expecting the airflow of a smaller turbo engine. Why did you not use...
Finally got some time in the garage.
The idler for the timing belt exploded and I feared the worst.
I pulled the cyl head and ALL OF THE VALVES ARE CLOSED! There are no impact marks on the pistons and the valves look good.THAT was a HUGE bullet to dodge.Even though the other head is in good...
Where the heck are you going that fast?
"Top speed DRAG LIMITED: 132mph"
You have a 140hp mule under the hood.Just because the speedo SHOWS 160, does NOT mean it will DO 160.Stay off the roads.
If you read the post he is talking about GST to GSX swap..
Hence "REAR CROSS MEMBER and FUEL TANK" mentioned in my reply.
Dont take my 'probationary member' status as another kid with pipe dreams and no knowledge.420a to 4g63 is a hell of a lot more work.
The rear cross member is different. So is the rear suspension. So is the gas tank.
Everything will swap with a bit of work. It is ALMOST a bolt on and go swap, but some mounting points will need fabricated.
Rings dont make it high or low compression. The piston shape, stroke, and combustion area is what dictates compression. You can use the SRT rods and pistons in a cloud car 2.4. They are the same bore and stroke. The piston shape provides for a lower compression. 8.1:1. You dont want high...
You cant just put the pistons/rods from the SRT into the 2.0 block. The rods are not the same length. You would have to swap the entire engine. The 2.4l 420a is about an inch taller than the 2.0 version. The SRT, being a 2.4, will have a different block, crank, and pistons than the 2.0.If you...
I was thinking more of the rear strut on the drivers side, but looking back through the pictures, it looks like the padding just melted from the heat and not that the metal was effected that far into the trunk area.Really nice work so far!
Man, Ive had that happen before. A friend wanted his valve cover in a candy cherry red, which I had. I decided to do a chrome under to make it pop a bit more and the powder went on too thick at some points and turned it pink in some areas and blood red in others. An adjustable powder coating gun...
I used to have a small powder coating business. Prep is 90% of the finished product.
I was just looking over the pictures and your valve cover wasnt the right shade so you changed it. I assume you stripped it and used a different powder?
Question, what do you use as your powder coating stripper? I have used a lot of different products. The best thing I have ever used is from a powder coating supplier, but its $20 for a half gallon and its only good for one use. I tried MEK and it does a decent job, but leaves a lot of gelled up...
Thanks :)
Its really a project to get my son into cars.
This is going to be, to the best of my ability, a full project. New paint, performance, handling, the whole thing. Not too much done yesterday, just the fenders, bumper and lights.
Still have a long way to go.
Since buying a new house back in December and finally having a garage, the wife allowed me to pick up a project car. I found a 97 Talon NT for cheap with a blown engine. I have a 2.4 cloud car engine with 30k on it that I picked up from a junk yard, complete, about 10 years ago that was going to...
