Piston slap... Usually when the cylinder walls are a bit larger than the piston and out of spec, the piston slaps a lot more. This happens with wear overtime or improper machining/assembly.
Dont cut the plug off... Just use a jumper wire to test it. That way if its the sensor, just replace it and you can still plug it in without a hacked harness.

I have ripped apart a few of these so called "JDM" motors and they were filthy! Valve seals were shot, shit load of carbon on the head, sludge throughout the motor. These motors are not pulled then sold right away. Another thing to think about is, it would take at least a month to get to the US...

Yes you can. It can be difficult, but its possible.You wouldnt be able to have the A/C belt installed and if the power steering pump is not bolted onto the block (left in car) you would need to put it on before you put the water pump/alt belt.
