My bad .... I thought this waas another "can I swap a 4g63t into a 420a chassis" ...I should have read better. You do already have a great platform to go from since your missing the trans and engine. The trans mustbe from a AWD drive DSM..the 420a trans will not work. You can usually find 6 bolt...
going from 420a to 4g63t is a long fabricated process for those with above average fabrication skills and plenty of time to knowledge on there side ... like stated " just go find a 4g63t awd car and do the maintenance / required building to get the car you seek" . These cars get bad enough rep...
I would like to know where you can get Jeff's TC brace ....and also how can I find out if mine is a 22 spline TC...... its a 1992 6 bolt w/ 4bolt rear and LSD if that helps any
You did rotate the timing assembly a few times when you did the timing after the "bolt mishap' ... just making sure everything is free and moving just fine, oil pump ( I am guessing Balance shafts are eliminated ). Your sure your getting a good spark ... I would try a different coil pack and see...
you can use a 2.4 crank in a 2.0 but it must be the same 6 bolt to 6 bolt ....7 bolt to 7 bolt ... ie early 7 bolt and early 7 bolt are different then later ones ... so you can not just throw a 2.4 crank into a 2.0 and be down the road. There are some good threads on here to use when building a...
Even with a shift box, the fact the trans has a snapped "kick down band" ( being mechanical ) band that also controls2 and 4 , then making 2 and 4 gear non existent and wont be able to engage The Shift box may tell it to go into 2 or 4 but the trans wont move / slip horribly or possibly lock up...
What was all done on rebuild, has maintenance been followed since ... these are cars that are either abused or well treated. More often they are abused and can be a headache if they have been neglected. 30k a day may get a little expensive on gas if your always wanting to hear that BOV .... if...
I think it was a standard option for Eagle talons / Mitsubishi Eclipse ... the Plymouth Lasers I think have the standard option as non-power mirrors, the Lasers seem to be the ones that come the furthest stripped down unless otherwise ordered. Like mine is a Jan build date ..but 92 1gb w/ ABS 4...
I would grab almost anything I could get off from that its decent shape ... when I last got out I had a huge sale, but anything DSm will be used by us DSM'er
Mine had the same sort issue ... lose tensioner let the timing slip a little which cause one cylinder to have low compression as the valve was slightly open. After tearing down I could see that it wasnt because of bad valves or rings ( filled head with carbcleaner let it set all night no leak...
Hmm .. the stock gears dont have adjustment marks on them ...I suppose you could adjust them a whole tooth at a time, but I would not suggest that. As for changing cams and gears , yes it is possible to follow RRE and change one at a time , my question is why the gears ? in order to adjust them...
LOL ..I am not saying you " hate" the car ... just your relationship with car is something to be desired. Yeah, for some reason people on CL seem to think that a car being sold on there is some perfect piece of vehicle .... its like " look your on CL and its a 20 year old car, WTH do expect"...
So, today I was out working on my car getting the rest of the pulleys and water pump off. That when I had tensioner in hand and thought to myself " Self the car only has 90k on it, how bad can things be at 90k" well thank goodness I am doing maintenance. The tensioner could be moved by a strong...
The vacuum when the A/C is on should be less then when it's not .... since the A/C makes the car idle a little higher, so no need to worry about that. The EGR plates may not be a great idea if you have emissions where you live in Washington, even if you dont it may throw a code and keep your CEL...
I have had all kinds of DSM / Starquest vehicles starting as early as 1992 ... all have been filled with factory Diaqueen as recommended. Stock hp to high hp and torque.Jacks says it best,
"Please get away from the mentality that you must have some kind of aftermarket fluid in your trans! Use...
Did you move the cams when changing the cam gears ...... Yes I would switch to the double lines. If you moved the cams when changing the gears this will account for deviations in the timing components. The last thing is that you can simply put the stock cam gears on and time the motor, once...
I just have some words of wisdom / advice ... "friends dont let your friends paint your Valve covers with random colors"This just would not do, so I bought some paint stripper paint removed all this crap.
Finally after a few times the valve cover is down to bare metal ..... getting ready...
Keep this thread going .. I am watching as this is the way I am taking my 92 AWD Talon. Any tips and things I can learn as the thread goes along would be great.
Cost vs HP is assuming that everyone is looking or chasing HP. Yes more HP is the a portion of the reason for doing an upgrade like this, but its not the driving factor. For me its really more about having a newer OEM part that also comes with some extra HP, driveability , more useable torque...
Those are awesome ... finally better rad brackets. what rubber insert do they use, hopefully something better and more available then our 1g oem ones. I dont 150.00 ....I can see 100.00 especially if he can sell a set amount at a time, like a group purchase ..... maybe 10 - 15 at a time.
Just understand that exhaust is there for a reason ..... In 1965 when big blocks came with 1.5in single exhaust it was common practice to cut off exhaust etc etc but with our newer cars , fuel injection and what not having some exhaust is actually needed for the motor to burn fuel correctly make...
After thinking a little bit last night, I thought why not someone like FP who already has a manifold cast that bolts to our 1g heads and 2g heads ...... so that half the equation is done, next would be designing the twin scroll flange that adapts the new Evo X turbo since they orientated it...
No I didnt know there was a difference in those parts ...... thanks for the info.:thumb:As for the resoration value I was speaking of, it was the idea like you stated "using other Mitsubishi parts that are still available but atleast they are still Mitsubishi brand products. Not a strictly OEM...
Keep on going, one little piece at a time and things seem to move along ...... A half radiator and custom manifold to move the turbo out the couple inches you need to clear the starter .... just a thought off the top of my head.
Well now I have a question ... how is the mas being used ? Is the ecu using it at all, could it be hooked up somehow using the mas to run the speed density ?Not try to thread jack but this has me confused
19gsx91 those are my thought exactly, .... Although sadly GSTwithPSI is correct on the fact that the time and fabrication needed usually outweighs the gains those said FAB shops and Vendors would want to see before even considering making this stuff for us on our dated platforms. DSM ( 85% of...
You could use that reservoir tap a hole, use some epoxy and get a new connector from the sire listed above ...ask Miller Import parts for a sensor. There you have it ...kinda alot of work. Although I would probably do it just for the sake of the restoration value kinda thing, plus I like the...
94awdcoupe is kinda where the idea came from .... I will send a pm.. I just hoped / wondered if more people had done this and maybe they had some hidden knowledge they would share. I am surprised that not more people wouldnt be interested in this setup ... I mean really a twin scroll 20g, decent...
I have read his thread and had exchange with another DSM'er regarding a manifold. Looks like the only way is custom , either using two cast manifold ( evo 3 w/ 1g flange ) or a custom tubular .....so now I am going to make some calls and see if one of these custom shops / fab shop have any ideas...
Thats what I am afraid of , the manifold costing so much that it makes the build just not worth it. If I am ask, what did it cost to have your manifold built? What manifolds did you use ?
Do you think that using a mix of manifolds is the best/only way to fit a twin scroll to the 1g or 2g heads ?
I really want a true twin scroll on my 92 Talon ... 18/20g on a 2.2 stroker setup
I have looked a bit on here and google a little less.
I am after a true twin scroll manifold for a 1g that will use a twin scroll 16g modded to either a 18 or 20g. I would prefer that the manifold would be a cast piece ( stock looking ) but a tubular that has twin wastegate ports .... top mount...
Just from the pic, I can tell your motor faces the wrong way ...you should look into a Evo swap that will be substantially easier since the motor face the same way.
It killed me buying one wideband ...lol Well it wasnt that bad, but i wouldnt have bought 2 of them just to wire into my ecu. Then again maybe he knows something we dont.
I would certainly put the heat shield back on the manifold for sure ..... check the coolant that its topped off and fresh ( coolant has an expected life span just like oil ) ....
I too have also used Gates and OEM tensioner's on plenty of our motors and a few other Mitsu motors and actually have never even looked to see this ( "Chinese" , "Made in China" ) that has people all up in arms about. I have had great experience with both , no failures with either.I judge my...
