Hey guys,Recently on a trip to Wisconsin, my car started sputtering really bad and ran like crap. I took it into a shop and they found theres no compression in cylinder 1. Also the spark plug grounding electrode was burned right off. They said it sounds like the exhaust valves are burned up...
All fixed! w00t! brought the battery to Auto Zone so they could match it up with a new one, they threw it on the tester, held 3.8V....yeah, little low. They chraged it for an hour and tested it again, held 11.4V, little better. So the battery was still good, so I threw it back in the car and it...
Well, I let the jumper pack thing charge all night, then tried to jump the car.....would not start. I left it on the battery for a few minutes to try to give it a little bit of a charge, and still woudln't start. In the past, I've never had to let the jumper sit on the battery for more time that...
Ok, got the belts replaced and everything all hooked up and whatnot. Yeah, stupid battery is too dead to start it since I had to drive it home and the battery died just as I was pulling into the driveway a few days ago. Anyways, charging up the jumper pack and will try to jump it in the morning...
I just stopped and got new belts cause the current ones are fuct, been slipping and squealing for like 5-6 months.....so they're D.E.A.D Once I get them off, I'll check the pulleys and make sure the PS pump bracket is put back in exactally how it same off, and make sure the PS pump is properly...
the alternator belt turns fine. On the motor, the pulleys seem to be connected or something...?? the alternator one and the PS one...?? well the alternator one spins, but the PS pump one doesn't. are they connected, or are they supposed to spin independantly?
Theres definetly enough tension on the PS belt, I used a big ass open end wrench to tension it, then tightened the bolts. Plus, if it was just not tensioned enough, the pully on the motor would still spin, and would squeal the belt wouldn't it?Is it possible that the PS pump and the pulley...
So, this kinda has to relate to the alternator. Mine was going out, so I had to replace it. Inorder to get it out I had to remove the PS pump. When I put it all back together, the belt thats running the PS pump, won't spin, or move or whatever. the alternator belt is fine, but its the PS pump...
my alternator died, so I replaced it today, got everything hooked back up, started up the car, and the belt thats around the power steering pully doesn't turn.....I took the PS pump out to get to the alternator, so the power steering belt was removed.
Then I un-tensioned the alternator...
Nah its not the head unit, I know what engine noise sounds like when you run all the wires in parallel on the same side of the vehicle, and its not that....its defiently coming from under the hood. and I do still get the noise when PS fuild is full....thanks for the input
In nero, your recording device probaby says Image Recorder...which is a drop down menu and you can select your CDR or DVDr....this has happened to me also.
yeah I don't really drive it aggressively cause I've been having one problem after another with this damn car, so I take it easy, which would also include launching...none of that going on. but I was looking through my subscribed threads and noticed that I posted about a year and a half ago...
I see what you're saying with the one being larger than the other. as stated in the original post, you took all the honeycombs out, therefor the one with the Injen sticker is your original, and the one with all the honeycombs is the new one you got from some dude, which you're asking why the new...
LOL - thanks bro, I was betting it was on there when I coudln't find it here lastnight. Could you maybe put that in the Tech Articles under either Electrical or Interior? Thanks again man!
2g resevoir versus just about any other car out there is pretty killer only for the simple fact taht it holds damn near an entire bottle of fluid :) great for MN winters and spring![edit] And I agree that it DOES take a second or two for the fluid to get moving once the pumps start
The rear one is for both, if you take the spare tire out you will see 2 pumps on the resevoir, and (I think) 3 hoses, 2 for front and 1 for rear. But the resevoir is for both regardless. My 1g had a front reseroir for front and a rear one for the rear as well...but the 2g is the same resevoir...
Hey guys,Didn't I at one time see a 2g gause cluster diagram on the site? Basically just the back of the cluster showing what light bulbs are for what.My spedometer and odometer lights are out. the Odometer light was fine until I pulled the cluster out yesterday to try to locate the...
I'm new to MN and I looked for a good 3 hours yesterday for salvage yards around here, and I couldnt' find a damn one that was within reasonable driving distance. But I dont' think I want that flimsy ass stock one, would like something a little more durable. I found a dude that will sell me a...
Hey,MN DSM'ers, my spare tire cover, the wood thingy, got all busted up and I want to replace it with 1/4" plywood for durability, but like I said my old one got all fuct up, so I need to trace someone's. anyone around wanna let me do that? I live in Minnetonka.thanks!
Joe...

I tried to get a seal kit from the dealership and they said they don't make one for the 95 gsx, so I asked for one for a 97 gsx and they wouldn't give me one cause of the model year difference.I heard from someone else last summer that said replacing the pump won't fix it because its a seal...
Let me put it this way. I bought the car 3 years ago, its a 95 gsx, I've never replaced anything on it engine wise....except mods, intake, IC pipes, mbc, throttle body, I think thats it.but PS pump leaks, never replaced water pump. when I brought it into the shop they said there was engine...
Last time my car was in the shop, they told me theres an engine oil leak coming from somewhere behind the timing belt cover, leaking all over the t-belt and balance belt. Obviously I need to get those belts changed, and possibly the tensioner also. I would like to do it myself, cause I'm dont'...
The belts thing *might* be it, I should also let you know that my PS pump leaks all over the place...leaks onto the ps belt, alt belt, alternator itself, timing and balance belt.[edit] the noise goes away at idle tho. clutch in, rev the engine, no whining noise, clutch out, rev the engine...
I have no idea how to explain this, but I'll give it my best shot.At stopped to mid speeds (0-65mph) my car makes a high pitched whining noise. Its very noticable, but I can't tell where its coming from. It changed pitch with speeds also...so when I stop, the noise goes away...
About a month ago I brought my car into the shop for an oil change, while on the lift I asked them to check my CV boots to make sure there are no tears or cracks. They said they looked good, nothing wrong. Ironically about a week after that, my drivers side cv joint starting clicking really bad...
I might add that my car has 114,000 miles on it. One more question unrelated to this thread (sorry) but my drivers side cv joint is starting to click really bad. I put the car up on jackstands a few days ago and checked out both cv boots....both are fine, no cracks, or tears....could the joint...
I think I could definetly do the work myself. I would probably need to read up a little more and probably ask some questions along the way, but I have been working on this motor a little at a time over the last 3 years, so I do know quite a bit about it, I just always 2nd guess myself when doing...
Hey guys,Hopefully you don't think I'm hijacking this thread, but I do have a related problem. Over the last 4-6 months, my power steering pump has been leaking, soaking my p/s, alt belts. Last time I brought it into the shop about 2 weeksa ago, they said that theres a pretty major leak...
Thanks for the reply. I took it into the dealership cause I'm new to this area and don't know anywhere else to take it. Also, I want to get it fixed ASAP cause of the alternator blowing out, taking along with it the voltage regulator. I heard a rumor some time ago that its not in fact the pump...
multi meter isn't going to help you. You need an OBD scanner. that will have a plug that you plug into the OBD port under the drivers side knee panel, then you turn the car to accessory, press "scan" on the scanner and it will either scroll the code and then you have to look up the code in a...
Hey guys,I need some help here, this is going to be long.I've been having this problem for the last 6 months. My power steering fuild needs to be filled every few weeks, and I can tell when its getting low, because the wheel gets harder to turn, and the belts squeal really bad when I...
I have the KYB AGX shocks with my stock springs and the ride is pretty rough. I don't know much about spring rates or what the numbers mean, but I can tell you that the combo of AGX's and stock springs = crap. The ride is really stiff and now that its getting warmer here in MN, the roads are...
spring compressor works a ton better..just rent one from Checker or Auto Zone...its a small deposit, then you get it back if you return the item within 24 hours. I had to buy new strut mounts, bump stop and the metal cup for all 4 shocks on my car cause the cup was welded on the stock shocks....
ok well the injector cleaner and Heat didn't work. So I pulled the sparkplugs and they looked pretty bad, must not be gapped right because they've seen some intensive heat over the last few months. Theres burned on oil on them and the tips are white...not the tip that *should* be white out of...
I just called the Mitsu dealership here and they said they've been getting LOTS of cel's in lately for misfires. They said that a lot of them have been coming from bad gas in the metro area. Since MN gas has 10% or more ethenol. Plus It's been raining here everyday for the last few weeks...
oh yeah, forgot to mention...I get like 11mpg now...just burns through the gas like theres no tomorrow...and minnesota gas sucks my balls...10% ethenol
gonna dig this one up from the depths -I just started experiencing the same problem yesterday. I was on the highway and I stepped on it and I could feel it buck a little...didn't know what to think at first, so I just ignored it. Today on my way home from work it was 10 times worse, the car...
yeah thats what I figured, but I can't get it off the old shocks...probably too rusted on or something. Guess I'll have to get new ones from the mitsu dealer or something....
Ok, I'll start with, I have searched for info on this topic and have found a lot of good info, but not specific to my needs.my suspension is completely stock. I'm now installing KYB AGX shocks to replace the blown out stock ones. I have extra stock springs lying around, so I'm just going to...
I'm installed AGX shocks all around. What do I need to take off my stock shocks and put on the new ones? I figured I would have to take that cup thing off to put the bump stops on the new shocks....but how the hell are you supposed to get that cup thingy off!!! HELP!!
just talked to mitsubishi and they said they don't have the p/s pump seal replacement kit for the gsx.....dude said they don't make it for that model....what a bunch of crap
